Finally! I have a book by Boris Akunin - I didn't realise it's a pseudonym - Grigory Chkhartishvili. Anyway, today from a charity shop (Americans call them 'thrift' shops) I bought Murder on the Leviathan. I've read the first few sections and I'm already enjoying it. I flipped through it and it has a really interesting structure. Not necessarily unique - or was it? it was originally published in 1998 - but definitely interesting. There is a tongue-in-cheek tone in the writing which I'm loving. And I definitely want to know 'who-dun-it' or even how or why. lol.
It's nice that you enjoyed it. The author really does write very well. I enjoyed his stories myself. I really sympathize with the main character, Fandorin. A noble gifted young man with a difficult fate. I myself read the books avidly and eagerly awaited the continuation))))))
Books about Fandorin came out only 17, some of them - a collection of stories and novels. They cover the period from 1876 to 1925.
Books about Fandorin in order
Here is their list:
"Azazel" (released in 1998).

"The State Counselor" (1999)
"Coronation, or the Last of the Novels" (2000)
"Mistress of Death" (2001)

Leviathan is not the first book, but that will be a separate story and I think you'll get the hang of it. The books themselves also came out not in chronological order of events. Pleasant emotions from reading)))) it's really fascinating.
