He's not. She loves both guys, can't decide which one to go with. He's being all noble and self-sacrificing. Remember, I did say it was complete corn? That's the point. It's nonsense but good escapist nonsense for people who were still in the middle of WWII. The film is supposed to give people hope that good will triumph over evil. Not every piece of art can fly the feminist flag, it's just not possible.

It's corn but it's definitely not caca. If you watch the scene where they sing La Marseillaise ... it always makes me cry buckets. The war was still two years out, people were still desperate at this point. It's corn but it's a good film.

1 - no, actually, they can't. Not everyone can go and fight.
2 - that is the point of that scene I posted. She's going off to America with her husband and they will continue to do his (yes, his!) freedom fighting from over there.

Same. I think it's fair to say my thoughts on Madonna are mixed. As an artist she doesn't do a great deal for me. As a dancer, singer, lyric writer - I'm not hugely keen, tbh. She is talented but doesn't really hold my interest. Cyndi for me, all the way.

I love the way Madonna has handled her career. She has played a blinder, imo. Especially with the media and choosing when and where to do interviews. Her instincts are spot on.

I admire a lot about her, find her immensely boring much of the time, am glad she's been around doing her thing. There is much more I could say but this isn't the place so I'll leave it at that.
