Looking at the populist UK press (I know, tabloid), the Daily Mail gives this a 4 star rating ( the maximum), and 'top billing' ('Pick of the Day') for the evening's viewing. (With a v nice photo of Michael from 'Liberian Girl').
The write-up starts off well, but declines as per expectation. However, for 'non fans', this should still (hopefully) encourage them to watch......and maybe learn more afterwards!
'Having aired on Thanksgiving night in the US, this very classy rockumentary by Spike Lee now arrives on BBC2. As well as being a must-see for Michael Jackson fans, it is also a beautifully crafted film, offering an intimate portrait of a gifted performer at the height of his powers. In the light of Jackson's subsequent sad decline, its easy to forget just how good he was 25 years ago when he made his last classic album, Bad. Lee's film includes rare and useen footage of the making of that album, along with the recollections of those Jackson worked with and confided in at that time, and of Martin Scorsese, who directed the 18 mnute short film for the single Bad.'
