Tokyo, January 6, 2010 – Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. responsible for business operation in Japan, today announced that a “PlayStation®3 ‘Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT’ Special Pack” will become available in Japan on January 27, 2010, concurrently with the release of Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT on Blu-ray™/DVD discs. This special bundle pack, produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, will include the PlayStation®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system with 120GB Hard Disk Drive and Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT on Blu-ray Disc and will be a limited offer at a recommended retail price of 33,500 yen (including tax).
Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT is a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his final concerts that were to be held in London from summer of 2009 to 2010. This blockbuster film was drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scene footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of his songs for the show. The disc also includes Blu-ray Disc exclusive vignettes of Thriller and Smooth Criminal which were re-taken specifically for the concert as well as a special wallpaper for the PS3 system.
With the “PlayStation 3 ’Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT’ Special Pack”, SCEJ continues to deliver the entertainment experience only possible on the PS3 system and further expands the platform to the gaming fans as well as to those new audience who are seeking for the ultimate entertainment platform for their home.

Hey guys cool news spotted!


Sony has just announced that it will release a Michael Jackson PlayStation 3 bundle in Japan. The bundle contains a PlayStation 3 Slim (120GB) and the documentary This Is It on Blu-ray. It will be available on the day that This Is It (the movie) hit stores.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is releasing a new bundle with the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It. Don't be that surprised — Sony Pictures is releasing This Is It on Blu-ray and DVD.
Priced at ¥33,500 (US$366), the bundle includes a 120GB Hard Disk Drive "Charcoal Black" PS3, a Blu-ray copy of This Is It, a wireless DUALSHOCK 3, a power cord, one AV cable and one USB cable.
The PS3 bundle will be released in Japan on January 27, the same day the disk version of This Is It documentary goes on sale in The Land of the Rising Sun. The Blu-ray version of the film includes special vignettes of Thriller and Smooth Criminal as well as a special PS3 wallpaper.

Awww this is only for Japan?
I'm planning to pick up a PS3 soon. If I knew this was available here in the US, I'd score one, no doubt.

I like my Nintendo Wii..and Moonwalker is supposed to be coming out on the Wii..(so I have read anyway). I really want a PS3 now Preferably this one! I feel too poor to keep up!:glare:

I have a new Nintendo Wii I hardly play with (because i dont have any games for it aside from the sports game that comes in the package).

I really don't get why they couldn't go with a special design of the ps3 like they do with many games. Like this IMO its just pointless.

Blu-ray rocks, PS3 rocks, best consol ever made. Wii, x-box etc. is crap compared.

SONY sucks because they treat the fans the way they do and mostly because they treat their artists bad. Like MJ said himself.

Who needs Blu-ray? Japan gets “This Is It” on SD card and USB stick

The special Michael Jackson PS3 bundle (PS3 plus “This Is It”, a documentary–concert film, on Blu-ray ) unveiled today by Sony Japan wasn’t the only relevant product announcement for Japanese ***** fans today. Nagoya-based Hagiwara-Sys Com is to release the film on two very unique media [JP], namely on a USB flash memory and an SD card.

The USB memory stick version (2GB) is dubbed “PC Edition”. Buyers will get “This Is It” in WMV format with 720×406 resolution and 1.5Mbps bit rate (the music bit rate is 128kbps). The PC Edition requires Windows XP/Vista/7 and Windows Media Player 9. Users will need to be online the first time they want to watch This Is It in order for Hagiwara to certify it’s an original file.

The so-called “Mobile Edition” of the movie is stored on a 1GB SD card. Hagiwara is selling this version for people who want to watch This Is It on their cell phones. It’s not the first time a Japanese company distributes digital content on SD cards.



Both versions will be sold in an LP jacket (315×315mm) starting January 27. Hagiwara throws in a 24-page booklet in vinyl record design and four Michael Jackson post cards. Prices: $50 for the SD version and $70 for the USB stick version.

Hagiwara is a global company, but I doubt these media will ever be available anywhere outside Japan. I’d suggest you contact Japanese movie specialist CDJapan in case you’re interested.

I'm not interested in a ps3 cuz' I already had one and sold it cuz' I didn't really play on it but this is cool! I think it's gonna sell well! :)
 
I don't have PS3 .
I want both of them.
But 33000 yen is too expensive.
 
wow, I'm a videogame collector and I would love to have that box (not the ps3 since I already have one, just the box).

Now just wait untill they release the MJ videogame he was working on.
 
This is a little bit pointless...it's just a regular PS3 Slim...

If it had a special design with MJ somewhere on the PS3, maybe make it a different color, THEN it'd be good.

That would have been cool actually. I would love it if it had Michael Jackson etched on the surface of the console.
 
It will probably sell well.

But let's be honest... it's a horrible bundle. The console+the blu ray and nothing more? Come on now. Where's the laser-etched signature MJ shoes? How about an HDD full of MJ music and short films?

I would have picked if the actual PS3 had anything with MJ physically on it. But it doesn't... so my current PS3 stacked with MJ videos is fine for now =)

As for the USB and Micro SD versions of the movie... now THAT is badass =D
