Based on this logic, every song released from Thriller would have went to number one. Of the seven songs released, only 2 went to number one "BillieJean & Beat It"...not even the "Thriller" single, after the greatest short film of all time was released, didn't even go to number one. Nor dd the first Jacksons single released after Thriller called "State of Shock" which featured Mick Jagger. It stalled at number 3. Even the Girl is Mine only peaked at number 2. What I'm curious about is why wasn't "Say Say Say" on MJ's Number Ones cd, when it clearly was a number one song?
I didn't mean number one position by saying "chart topper". It's almost the same if the song is #1 or #3 if there's a mania around. #1 is the biggest seller, but #3 or #5 are usually huge sellers or big hits. And if there's competition, the song doesn't have to be #1 and it can still be one of the biggest sellers in long term. There's also a "problem" that fans maybe buy other releases than the newest single because they have decided to buy it for example a week later. So technically you can have competition with your own songs, too.
