it comes from the slang phrase all is bob meaning that everything is safe good or satisfactory from the seventeenth century? There have been other slang expressions containing bob some connected with stealing or gambling and from the eighteenth century on it was also a common generic name for somebody you didnt know This might have started its beginning? LOL
