Oh thanx but i dont message on myspace i hardly be on my myspace but your little boy is sooo cute by the way!!!

haha he is michaelisinnocent! rex is asian.

and thanx smith...zz growing fast

I just hate when americans refer EAST-Asians like china, korea vietnam as ASIANS.
They are, but asia is pretty big you know, and there are lot's of different people who loke nothing like what americans call asian.

It's not a personal attack soso, just something every amercian does.

yeah its kinda confusing cause if u say asian in the uk it normally means indian/pakistani. someone from that sort of area. but if its someone from say china they are called oriental cause they are from the orient

Philippines IS in Asia but we Asians generally further reclassify it like South Asia (India, Pakistand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh) and South East Asia/Far East/Orient for Singapore, Korea, Thailand, China etc and sometimes Japan is just Japan.

LOL! ;)

edit - but I digress!

In the United States anybody from the continent of Asia or any of the Asian Island countries are considered Asian. In the past they were considered Oriental. In the United States, the term isn't used that much anymore, because most Asians felt that was a derogatory term. It's said that term was coined by the Europeans and it was used to describe people from some far off distant land, " THE ORIENT"... Something like " those people somehere over there". I think Marco Polo the Italian explorer who explored Asia was one of the first people to use that term or someone else around his time.

Also, why does one feel the need to want to know about Rebbie Jackson's grandson or the grand children of any of the Jacksons? I mean the kid is not a celebrity his grandmother is. Don't you think he should have a right to his privacy???

Oh and this is Michael Jackson related... When Michael did his interviewed with Oprah from the Neverland ranch back in 1993, in responding to a question, he refered to Asians as "Oriental". (I think it was that interview) well anyways there were a few Asian groups who took issue with that. It wasn't a big controversy though. Michael wasn't wrong because that is how the term was taught in schools.

well ppl over here use that word if u are describing someone whos from the orient ie china etc. asia is a big place and conatains many different ppl so u cant really use one word to describe someone cause u could be talking about anyone from one of many different countries who look differently and have totally different cultures

we only use that in reference to rugs. i think it was felicia rashaad who made a comment about not being able to use oriental anymore....it wasn't pc anymore.

and i think people wanna know about london for th esame reason they wanna know about th eneices and nephews...they're an extention of the family and they're interested.

Of course Asia is a big place, it's the largest of all the continents. But when you encounter someone for the first time say for example in an employment situation or if you see a group of Asians together, how does one know who is Chinese and who is Japanese or who is Korean? How does one know who is Bangladeshi and who is Indian or who is Pakistani? Have you ever made the mistake of assuming that someone was Japanese when in fact they were Korean??? That is a Big Big Deal!!! In gerneral terms in the United States that is why they are refered to as Asians. But they do not like Oriental.

It's like that with the Latinos or Hispanics. Because some my speak spanish doesn't mean that they are all Mexicans, which some people always assume is the case. The person could be from Cuba or Puerto Rico or the United States.
In the United states they are listed as a main Group (Asian, Latinos) and then they are broken down into nationalities. Oriental or the Orient is not a nationality nor is it a place. That was the argument made from people who are from many of the Asian groups here in America...;-)

The children of the Jacksons , I can understand, but not the grandkids. That's my opinion.

thats why ppl use other terms such as south east asian for eg to seperate someone who comes from say india to someone who comes from japan korea etc.so it splits up the areas as u cant use asian to describe everyone as it becomes confusing . call some asian here it means indian/pakistani. that kinda area. the term asian for say someone from japan/china isnt really used. tmk oriental isnt a negative word here. it descibes ppl who come from the orient.its kinda confusing that in america i presume? they use the word asian to cover anyone whos from asia. that could mean you could be anything lol and is abit ignorant. it makes it look like everyone from that area is the same when they are as different as u can get

the orient was originally used to desciribe the east and the ppl who came from there.
