PETA names Janet Jackson the "Grinch of the year"

Janet Jackson has been named the Grinch of the Year in a new poll compiled by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and WENN.

PETA bosses looked back over the year to find the three celebrities they are most at odds with over their fur-wearing, animal exploiting ways and Jackson's plans to team up with fur firm Blackglama for a new line of pelts gave her the clear edge.

PETA spokeswoman Wendy Wegner tells WENN, "While the holidays may be known as the season of giving and peace on earth, that's not always the case for our animal friends.

"When Janet Jackson had her infamous wardrobe malfunction during Super Bowl XXXVIII, at least what popped into view of 170 million onlookers belonged to her, unlike the animal skins she drapes herself in, which are as dead as her fashion taste and her career

I'm sure Janet will be offended that such a respectable organization known for its peaceful protests and kindness has said this.

I totally agree on the fur issue, but this statement sounds very immature to me. I dont see what Janet's career or the Superbowl thing have to do with the cruelty of fur farms.

This is one of the reasons PETA are so irrelevant. I myself hate that Janet chose to do that when she could have lent her name to much better things, but it's very low to try and insult her career, that's why even other animal rights organizations call PETA a joke. No one takes them seriously and Janet's career is far from dead.

Oh please. PETA, in loving animals need to learn how to love HUMANS and be kind to them in WORDS and DEEDS. They seem to be on a Jackson kick. First, they told lies about how Michael treated his animals, then they wanted his kids to use Neverland for their idea, now they are after Janet. Who is next--

while peta are right in critizing janet for her actions no wonder no one takes them seriously when they act like the national enquirer. that statement is just embarassing

I support PETA in this fight.

And yes, maybe hard to acept but her career was dead...until MJ's death.

And yes, it's digusting that someone who claimed to love animals is supporting the horrendous killing of innocent little animals.

I don't know where you are from, but Peta is not "irrelevant", they have many many celeb supporters here in America and they get attention from humiliating fur-wearing
celebs.

Callous? Yes. Their ad campaign always make headlines because they go for the shock and awe angle.

I don't always understand the way they go about it...but this press release is nothing compare to throwing a bucket of paint on someone.

I disagree with fur but PETA take things way too far. Now I love animals but PETA treat animals like they are worth more than humans.

I usually agree with their campaigns because unless people are shocked, they dont react. It's true whatever the issue : drunk driving, HIV, global warming, ...
But in this, they use arguments that have nothing to do with the issue, IMO.

I think they want to show that animals are as worth as much as humans. :) Which is true. Except in some cases (Hitler, Hussein, Kim Jong-Il, Conrad Murray, ...) who are worth much less than any other form of life.

Well PETA always takes things way too far, BUT JJ should know better than be the spokesperson for animal furs. I don't think Michael would have been happy, but of course she does what she wants to do. Honestly I think Janet is desperate to make some money at the moment. Bad choice on her part.

while i find PETA statement ridiculus and childish, Janet Jackson desicion to suport fur is totaly disgusting. has she ever see how animal are treted for her and peple lke her to wear furs? she couldn't resist the money i supose. shame on her.

I think they are far worse fur offenders than janet ,but i do think it werid she did this.
She did say she was against cruelty to animals but i guess when she was asked to do the commerical she felt had to do it.

^It's not just a commercial, she has her own fur line with Blackglama. IMO that is worse than doing just a commercial because she is a direct cause to the torture and cruel death of the animals being skinned- for her fashion line.

Some of PETA's antics are in poor taste, but I maintain my stance that Janet deserves any flack she gets.

Oh i thought this commerical was for a fur company

Attention seeking PETA strike again.........

Why don't they actually try to put a full stop to the fur trade????............

All I see PETA do is waste people's donations on billboards and posters featuring naked celebrities (who are usually in dire need of some publicity)!!!

I totally agree and I never knew this about her. And she used to be my number 1 favorite female singer. Now I prefer some of the female singers from India now. Back when I was teenager I was a fur wearer. Until I saw those hidden camera reports of how fur coats are really made. And seeing Michael's Earth Song video forever put me off of wearing furs or leather ever again. Then this time every year I see tv advertisements for Zinman's Furs. It really angers and upsets me to see these women wearing these furs. I really don't understand what is so glamorous or fashionable about wearing death. I just so badly wish that fur company as well as any other fur place would go out of business. In this day and age people don't need to be wearing furs anymore.

Oh, that Peter is always saying dumb things. I keep reading this as "Peter names Janet Gingrich of the year" lol...

^^I do not think animals are worth as much as humans. I think the worth of a Human Being far superceeds the worth of any animal, creature, object on the face of the earth. Yet I disagree with hurting, illtreating, and harming animals. I see their purpose as providing beauty to the world, but at the same time they can provide food, companionship, and shelter to humans. I feel we can love animals, care about them, and protect them without seeing them as on the same par as human beings. I agree with PETA protecting animals, but I disagree with their methods and personal attacks on Janet.

I agree. Personally, I don't like that Janet is doing business with a fur company. But still, the comments about her career and the Superbowl mishap are really low and unnecessary, in my opinion.

"When Janet Jackson had her infamous wardrobe malfunction during Super Bowl XXXVIII, at least what popped into view of 170 million onlookers belonged to her,

Attempt to remind the public of Janet's past embarrassing moments.

unlike the animal skins she drapes herself in, which are as dead as her fashion taste and her career

Now this is funny. Janet's career is far from dead. To me PETA sound a lot like those people on this forum who hate Janet for everything she does and claim she doesn't have a career. Speaking of those people...

I support PETA in this fight.

And yes, maybe hard to acept but her career was dead...until MJ's death.

Wow. I don't know how many times I or other rational people on MJJC have had this argument with you. With a North American tour and new studio album in 2008, it is clear that Janet's career was far from dead just before Michael's death. I don't understand why it is so hard for you to understand that Janet has a career. It looks like you actually want her to be living off of her brother's fame like the other siblings do. This speaks for itself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janet_jackson

Anyway, personally I'm not for or against fur. I wouldn't wear it myself but I don't have a problem if other people do. However, I do have a problem with violent "protests" and immature press statements such as this one. If I was against fur, there is no way I would be supporting PETA. I'm sure there are much more reasonable organizations out there.

I do think animal & human are equal in a way cuz we all are gods creation. I may sound like a hypocrite saying this as i do eat meat but i do
belive in what i just wrote

With this kind of statements PETA is making a mockery out of a very important issue as it is the fur industry and how animals are treated by people in order to get their skin. On the other hand, Janet desicion to lend her face on this kind of campagnes is sad. I never really liked that woman but this made me dislike her even more. Very insensitive of her part.

I don't like it when people wear fur. Actually, I hate it. So I agree that Janet can be concidered Grinch of the year for modeling dead animal skin for Blackglama.

On the other hand, I despise PETA because they represent everything that's twisted in an organization. I support The Animal Humance Society and ASPCA. There's no "human hate" in those two organizations. Ironically, it's humans who are trying to help these animals from the "bad humans" out there.

PETA lacks class and knowledge which makes them look like white trash everyime they release a statement. There was no need to drag the Superbowl fiasco or Janet's career into their statement.
