I don't think that anyone believes the entire album to be fake.

Out of interest, why would Sony put a fake Michael Jackson track on mj.com and then later swap it out with a real Michael Jackson song?

In my opinion the song has not changed since Monday - people have simply got used to the sound of the other singer.

It's not possible for him to come back from the grave to finish and oversee these projects.

So there's 2 options :

One is "do nothing" - no future project as it cannot have Michael's total perfection. Estate says " Sorry he's dead all we have is incomplete materials and these ideas but he's not here to finish them or provide feedback so we'll do nothing".

But honestly why would anyone want this for Michael? I mean Tupac had 6-7 albums released after his death, Beatles has several songs released 25 years after Lennon's death , Elvis is pretty much still relevant. Why this couldn't happen to Michael as well.

Two is "next best thing" - here no one is denying that if Michael was alive we would probably get a perfect performance of TII concerts, more vocals and finished songs from MJ but he's not here to do it anymore. So you get the next best thing. Perhaps no project is 100% Michael but it's still part Michael. And for some people even getting 1% of Michael is too valuable to dismiss and reject.

So I understand and respect your opinions but seriously please stop destroying this for the rest of the people.

Yes, 1% of Michael is too valuable to dismiss. 1% of Michael is still genius. The issue is that if it's only 1% Michael, it's not right to market it as 100% Michael. The whole controversy would not have happened if the Estate and Sony were straight-forward upfront. They could make it clear that there are demos that Michael worked on, which are completed by other artists.

I'm all for releasing materials in the vault. I admit I want to own every piece of Michael. But, after this incident, I can't help to think whether it's still a good idea of not. It's a very tricky topic. People who are against Breaking News are not denying other's fans right to enjoy the song. If one loves a song, one will not suddeny dislike the song if the majority hate the song. For instance, I love Heartbreaker; although, most fans don't have much nice thing to say about the song. It remains one of my most-played songs in my iPod.

When I saw This Is It, I can tell Kenny Ortega has upmost respect in Michael. I can tell he loves Michael and have fans in his mind when he worked on the movie. Teddy Riley may love Michael as much. I don't know. May be the quality of the demos are too bad and rough for him to save. There will always be rough demos in the vault. Is it right for them to release things that truly should not be releases for the sake of "not dismissing 1% of Michael"?

I listened to it once on monday and since monday i hadn't listened to it. Yesterday bc of some fans i went BACK and listened to it again. IT has CHanged!

We are still waiting for confirmation that the statement yesterday by Howard Weitzman (on behalf of the estate) is real and official. There are many blatant inaccuracies and omissions which makes me think it is not. I'm waiting on a phone call or the statement to be posted on an official site (such as michaeljackson.com) before I respond.

Just cleaned this thread. People need to take a step back here. This statement was always going to be disected, quite rightfully too. No one should be trying to change people's opinions. We want to encourage everyone to share their opinions. People are going to disagree with each other, that is life. But if people are going to disagree please do it respectfully. Its been a tough tough week and people are on edge.

You guys have been warned so many times. Yet you continue to fester like the plague. You feed off of one another's negativity and spread your germs across the whole freaking board. And I for one have had enough. You speak without sense, because the only thing that is sensible to you is hate and negativity. You are so set in being negative, that even those who don't think it is MJ are scared off. And those who are confused and don't think it is him 100% are left in shambles.

It is so ridiculous and in all my life I have never seen it since I taught kindergarten with a frenzied bunch of 5 year olds scrambling over the last piece of candy.

People need to calm down and act as if they have some kind of sense. i know absolutely who I am going to report to Gaz and hopefully they will be banned.
 
The mob scene mentality is taking its toll. People talk about what Michael would and wouldn't want but do you really think he would want some of his fans treated with such hostility just because they don't agree with you?

Something that is posted only on a fan forum can hardly be considered as official.

I don't doubt Gaz got it from the Estate but it's indeed strange it didn't appear on the official MJ site or other official outlets.
 
the letter was written to the fans, and it was given to the president of the biggest fanclub online. I don't see any problems with that. the official site is maintained by Sony, not the Estate, as far as I know. And the letter was not written by Sony.

Ivy, if you're here, i was wondering if you had seen any copies of copyright forms fors SR..which is sound recording form, that indicates if any semblance of Michael Jackson's voice is a copyrighted sound on Breaking News, and if it's on record in the copyright office? or form PA..performing arts form, that would indicate that any part of the words, and/or music to Breaking News is written by Michael Jackson. So far, nobody has indicated such. I know that all government forms, warn people never to falsify information, whether you are applying for a job, welfare, whether you are using the government mail system, or anything else governmental, including copyright. Sony may be willing to defraud Michael, fans and many, but would they go as far as defrauding the government?

also, i'd like to know why there are no advertisers on the site, on which Breaking News is playing. Remember, there were advertisers on the site, on which This Is It was playing. one thing i fantasized about was the horde of advertisers that would cram for a place on the site for a new Michael Jackson song. Controversy has never stopped advertisers. they know that any publicity is good publicity. So why aren't there any ads on the Breaking News site? could it be that advertisers don't want to spend millions on fraud?

whatever advertisers may have thought of Michael Jackson, the person, they all proved that they are fans of Michael Jackson's music, as they advertised on the site for the streaming of This Is It. it's kind of conspicuous, that ther are no ads on the site for Breaking News. Perhaps these advertisers know something.

Ivy, if you're here, i was wondering if you had seen any copies of copyright forms fors SR..which is sound recording form, that indicates if any semblance of Michael Jackson's voice is a copyrighted sound on Breaking News, and if it's on record in the copyright office? or form PA..performing arts form, that would indicate that any part of the words, and/or music to Breaking News is written by Michael Jackson. So far, nobody has indicated such.

i'm curious..could i have a link to that? and why is it copyrighted two days after Michael's death?

i do suppose i could do an application like that. i hope it's not government fraud, being commited by them. i'm just sayin...

it feels like a piggyback lyric, right after his death..especially the part about 'obituary'. MJ never wrote about his own death in lyrics before..

i guess MJ thought that song was so unimportant, that he copyrighted it two days after his death.

but then again, there are a lot of people named Michael Jackson, in this world.

and, when i copyrighted stuff, nobody from the copyright office checked to see if i was really me, when i used my own name..

so basically, the official word is, that Michael Jackson, wrote on a copyright form, the year of his birth 1958, and the year of his death 2009, then copyrighted the song two days later, after he filled out the application...he forgot something, and he edited the application. i guess.

i guess sony's publicity stunt you are talking about, includes the use of the United States Copyright Office.

looking back, i wonder if MJ was behind the leaks of Xscape Hold My Hand and such, because he didn't care anymore, was disenchanted, was set for life, wanted us to hear complimentary stuff, and, he wanted us to hear the real inspired MJ work, and he knew that sony would do this stuff to us, that they're doing now.

The copyright filing was made by the Cascios, the producers of the song.

i suppose i could put someone else's name on a copyright form, unbeknowndst to them.

i wonder if MJ ever knowingly let someone put his name on a copyright form..or, if he didn't mind, if his name was put on a copyright form, and he didn't know it..

so why didn't the cascios file this before june 25 of last year, while MJ was around to see it?

why didn't they file this form from the early demos when they supposedly worked together? wan't protection important to them, then? they could always refile over and over, with every new addition they put to the music. but there's no indication of that.
 
This comment is very late (registration difficulties), but it's quite clear to me what's happened. The audio experts and other producers who commented it was MJ listened to the acapella vocals only (as mentioned in the press release). I'm still not 100% the acapella is him, but for arguments sake let's says it is. The problem is that these legitimate vocals are so drowned out by the other vocals and noise on the song, MJ is lost. As a result we have a song which doesn't sound like MJ at all, even though he's in there, somewhere.

this copyright registration is too early for sony and the estate to be involved. Even Michael's will wasn't filed by that time and the estate didn't exist and sony deal wasn't done. so it basically looks like Cascio and Porte registered this after Michael's death.

plus putting another person's name on a copyright does not necessarily mean an advantage for the other parties. For example in this instance as Michael's name is put on the copyright, it gives the estate a say so on these materials.

edited to add: this late registration (after Michael's death) might not mean a thing. I mean I see several songs registered by the estate in 2009 and 2010. It might be that people as they find materials or came across to songs that are not already registered they register them.
 
My opinion:

Anyone could've written that statement, it's not offical in my book. It's not posted anywhere else, not on the mj site (yes I know sony didn't make the statement, but they've shared information before, it wouldn't be strange), furthermore no sites like TMZ have even mentioned it, and they ARE connected to the estate and sony and usually always get their info correct and prompt.

I'm still convinced that there's only snippets of the real MJ on that Breaking News track, it's either that, or the vocals have been so incredibly altered with autotune or other polishing techniques, that it's lost it's MJ quality. I've never heard MJ sound like that on any of his recordings, and seriously, all those producers and engineers combined would definitely know HOW Michael liked his vocals treated and mixed. They can claim experts all they want, but 1. that could easily just be a lie, or 2. those people have all received a nice little bonus check to just "get this in the pocket".

I just heard that KYHU song, now that sounded like Michael, however at times also too much treated with effects. However, why on EARTH they decided to use those Earth Song snippets in there is beyond me! I've never heard something like that before, it's cheap and sounds 2nd hand. That just shows me the lengths they go to in order to be able to deliver a product, and that is supposed to convince us of the fact that nothing is more important to the estate than Michael and his legacy and fans?? Please, it's about money, it always has been and always will, and Michael sung that best.

Great questions. I guess the Cascios weren't grieving too much to file so quick after his death. My guess is they didn't have approval to do it before he died.

i don't imagine Michael leaving any writings of his unregistered. if all he did was write, and he knew that there were billie jean bandits out there, everywhere, as was proven in the past...hard for me to imagine... case and point, 'This Is It' registered way back twenty plus years ago. no controversy there. i don't know of a writer who isn't paranoid about registering his or her work.

by the way..it may look like small info, but it's there. i realize MJ was a superstar, but in that link his address is unlisted. security aside..that could be convenient. who knows if there is another Michael Joseph Jackson in Los Angeles? i heard there's one in New Jersey. and i know someone could temporarily stay in Los Angeles, and be named Michael Joseph Jackson, and sleep in a cardboard box on skid row in Los Angeles. anything's possible.

as far as what i think of the estsate's sayso...i'd make another thread on that, but i don't have the energy....
