I do respect your opinion here, but I look at it another way. We're not talking about just any "items" here. We're talking about a 400+ page collector's item that is being offered at half price just for pre-orders. And oh yeah, it's a Michael Jackson book. That does make it just a little bit special. By paying up front, we are guaranteed to get the half off price, and be one of the first to get the book in our hands. I don't have a problem with them having my money early. They aren't the only website that charges up front for pre-orders.
Additionally, if it bugs you, this info from their website might be helpful:
"We can debit your credit card immediately to secure your purchase. Alternatively you can secure a copy by sending your credit/debit card details to
orders@michaeljacksonopus.com and we will debit your account once the publication is released on the 7th December."
Although personally, I would never send credit/debit card info in an email.
