Official Charts Thread For ''Michael''

'HMH' moved back up the 'UK TV Airplay Charts' last week.

Up to #21 (from #25) with 81 plays on UK TV (03/01-09/01)

On another note;

In 5 weeks (up to 19/12) 'HMH' had 1335 plays on UK radio - rather blowing the 'myth' that it was never played on UK radio! It reached as high as #12 on the radio airplay charts (before all of the dreadful 'Xmas Songs' started to flood the charts in mid/late December).

UK Catalogue Charts (03/01-09/01)

I ever believed MICHAEL would debut at No. 1 in Japan. But actually it didn't do well there. Why?

In Japan local artists are very strong so it's hard for foreign artists top the charts.

The week "Michael" debuted at #3, the #1 album sold 200,000 copies and behind the #2 by less than 2,000 copies.

Anyway it's doing well there, still top 10 and over 100,000 copies (Gold mark status) sold already.

the album need a hit single to make its mark btw. imagine what a number 1 single would do for the album tbh

Here is my update again for Jan 11-12th (confirmed chart positions mostly after 3-4 weeks in 28 different countries).

IMO: Globally "Michael" is still selling very well so I really hope there will be the 2nd single soon because the album is very potential to sell for a longer time. I hope this chart situation just shows that Sony just doesn't want to promote it yet in the big countries before the 2nd single. Because its chart action is kinda opposite in many minor countries and it's still after 3 weeks #2 on the global album chart.

In Norway "Michael" is #6 for the third week in a row. Vision is still #1 on the Music DVD chart.

It really looks like it is. I thought it's only 2rd week in a row. But it looks like it's charted 5 weeks there now. Album is being pretty steady last weeks all around except bigger countries (that need more promotion to have top 10 sales). I feel it won't probably just fall out in the biggest countries either.

With Britney's new single out now "Hold It Against Me" Any upbeat single needs to be released and NOW! Or we might not see MJ #1 this time around.

I'd like to put up a thread for my album chart updates. I think it would be great if there was album charts and single charts separately, then they could be updated by two different person. I could update my album chart thread once or twice a week.

Why there is no country from Africa ?

As far as I know there's no official charts in Africa, not even in South Africa. Some airplay charts there are but there are so much airplay charts all around the world, it would be very tough. I'm interested in sales charts more because if something is selling well usually it's also played.

But "Michael" has not charted yet

So, is that really 'official'? There are many album charts all around that are not official. Officiality means that it's objectively researched and collected.. It doesn't look like official also because Michael's album is not there.

As far as i know it's the chart recognized as "official" by RISA
http://www.risa.org.za/

THIS IS IT peaked at #10 and spent 3 weeks on 10-19-17-out

Strange "Michael" has not charted yet

You mean because it's poor continent?
That's why it's tough.

Poor, yes, and also because there are no ways to collect objectively info. Some areas in some countries (in many more than African ones) are somehow 'fishy'. Also in some areas in the world the piracy kinda rules.

Does that mean 'Number Ones' was charted all through the year, or what? Why it's so popular there? Is it cheap? Isn't Essential much better?

N. Ones never left the Billboard 200 since 3 years, also Essential is back on since 4 four weeks after 2 months out of the chart.

"Michael" still leads both italian album charts

Sales Update From Sony:

Sony Music shipped 3.2 million albums globally and will likely have to ship more I'm told in the coming weeks. (this does not include China)

Total sales in the first week were 734,000 (#1 overall) in nations that release album sales to the public but if you include India, Russia (#1 debut), China, and other countries in Asia and South America, total sales are a staggering 1 million.

Sales in China have been astronomical from what I'm told. Sony China has shipped 2 million albums to the country, and first day sales alone exceeded 200,000. Final results will be reported next week and could approach 1 million for the first week (#1 selling music album in the country for the week).

Sales in Russia were also high (the album debuted #1 here) selling well over 20,000 copies in it's first week.

I am told that by Summer 2011 when promotions will level off, Sony will have shipped over 7-8 million albums around the planet with sales near or possibly over 5 million.
Edit/Delete Message
Smooth - Would you happen to have any further updates regarding the sales figures for China and Russia?

Fyi, 'Michael' is #3 this week in terms of worldwide sales according to Media Traffic. Here are the top 3:

Rihanna - Loud - 145K
Black Eyed Peas - The Beginning - 99K
Michael Jackson - Michael - 93K
