News about the public service

This is only my opinion. Initially the family was preparing NL for the memory; on last Friday and hold funeral services today, Sunday. The highway patrol was coordinating things and when they found that fan started to hover down into Santa Barbara and nearby cities y panicked. They probably spoke to the family to let them know and basically came up wit-his plan and they bought it.
Once out of the families hand they went on to do as they please to keep the crown control down. And this plan was born.

The family most likely did have the funeral on Sunday, ( today) at an undisclosed location, (Forest Lawn) Hollywood .Now Michel can rest in peace.

I mean, How much longer can they keep him un -buried for much longer? That's just my opinion.

theres media camped outside forest lawn so if anything happs im sure it will be everywhere.seemed strange it was reported he would be burried b4 the memorial or maybe they want to do it early to try and catch ppl out

i'm really starting to think that if a coffin Is there ppl will be passing out. That will cause a lot more other problems. You gonna have problems outside with all the fans wanting in. We don't need problems inside too. The body shouldn't be there.

jennifer hudson would be great... jennifer holiday? uh.. i dont really like her style very much... she makes weird faces when she sings and shes a lil over the top in my opinion, altho talented...

and yes i think his casket SHOULD be there... just closed of course... there doesnt need to be a viewing of his body... and if there is, it should only be at the private/family memorial.. not the public one...

I hope he is already buried...and the family and his kids got a chance to say good bye in private...

I hope he is already buried too. It is time for him to be laid to rest. I don't care about a memorial. Just bury him.

1.6M Jackson fans learn who won memorial tickets

LOS ANGELES – Who's getting the tickets?

Like a modern-day Willy Wonka tale, more than 1.6 million fans waited to learn Sunday whether they were among the lucky few to win access to Michael Jackson's memorial service at Staples Center on Tuesday.

Fans registered online for free in the random drawing of only 8,750 names. Each person selected will receive two tickets.

Ticket winners were in the process of being notified Sunday afternoon, according to Michael Roth, a spokesman for Staples Center owner AEG Live.

The odds of getting a ticket were about 1 in 183.

The tickets will admit 11,000 people to the Staples Center plus 6,500 in the Nokia Theater overflow section next door. The streets around the stadium will be closed to prevent those without tickets from trying to attend, police said Sunday.

The 50-year-old Jackson died June 25 after going into cardiac arrest in the bedroom of his rented mansion. The cause of Jackson's death has not been determined. Autopsy results are not expected for several weeks.

Jackson's family was planning a private ceremony at the Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills, LAPD Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell said. He did not provide further details.

More than a week after his death, tributes and accolades keep coming. Madonna had a Jackson impersonator dance to "Wanna Be Starting Something" at her concert Saturday in the same London arena where he was to stage his comeback.

Colin Powell said in an interview aired Sunday that Jackson had controversy in his life, but in death his art should be celebrated.

"Yes, there were some challenges in his life," the former secretary of state told CNN's "State of the Union." "Yes, there was a great deal of controversy about him. But he's now passed on. Let's celebrate his art."

The memorial service will be broadcast on five television networks, after NBC executives changed their minds Sunday and decided to air the service live. NBC joins ABC, CNN, MSNBC and E! Entertainment.

Before the ticket drawing, officials of AEG, the owner and operator of the Staples Center, will "scrub" the entries to eliminate duplicates and any suspected of being made by automated systems, Jackson family spokesman Ken Sunshine said in a statement.

Winners received a unique code and instructions on how to pick up their tickets Monday at an off-site distribution center. When they pick up their tickets, a wristband will be placed on their wrists.

To prevent ticket scalping, fans must have both the ticket and the wristband to enter Staples Center on Tuesday. Wristbands that have been ripped, taped or tampered with will be voided.

City officials are preparing for huge crowds. Assistant Police Chief Jim McDonnell would not say how many police would be on the job, but alluded to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the recent championship celebration for the Los Angeles Lakers at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The ceremony will not be shown on Staples' giant outdoor TV screen and there will be no funeral procession through the city.

No details were given about the actual memorial events.

I personally would like to see Michael's body. For closure. I would like to see his hair, face, how his hands will be. How he will be dressed. What kind of casket he will have. I want to see my sleeping king. I know it sounds kinda morbid, but I can't help feeling that way. I think that then I will be satisfied. If Iwas there, I would also kiss him goodbye, and then go home and celebrate his life with hearing his music, and watching his videos.

don't want to see either one Hudson or holiday. Nothing against them though. I want to celebrate him. Like when we went to chene park memorial they was singing the temptations songs and stuff i don't want to here that. I love those artist but i want it to be about him, call me selfish or mean but thats how I feel

Thats how I feel. We can see that at every award show from now on for the next year.

I also agree with Mizz Mina and Harlow. Personally, I'd prefer there to be NO celebrity taking the spotlight for a second, even if they're there to sing a tribute. But a choir would be beautiful...

Has noone ever been to a funeral before or something?!?!? Just saying, I don't anticipate the fainting..

Uhm, you have tens of people fainting at his concerts, and it's not like they've never been to a concert before.
Some have even committed suicide, and it's not like they've never heard of a man dying before.

If what has happened to Michael doesn't affect you, it doesn't mean it's not affecting others. Saying "goodbye" to one of the most important people in your life is a tough challenge, and not everyone handles it in the same way.

I swear, this thread is so depressing. Just like elusive, I can't believe I'm coming on the forum to read about this stuff. I find it more reasonable that I've lost my mind and Michael is somewhere safe, minding his own business, far away from this madness.

Has anyone ever been to a MICHAEL JACKSON funeral before? Um NO! Fans are already distraught about this whole thing and we are thousands of miles away for LA. So how do you think some will act if they see a coffin, or worst michael in a coffin. Think about it! Ppl WILL faint! Clearly im not talking about concert fainting either.

Thank you! Some folks want to come up on here and act like THEY DON'T KNOW what the deal is. I can't be bother with the stupidity.

I'll be watching from home i pray they don't have his body there i just want him to rest and be in peace he deserves that. He wouldn't want people looking down at him and all that o god i just can't believe this Michael should not be dead i will miss him so much!

For Christ sakes this is no walk in the park people everywhere are upset about Michael's death! And if people were fainting at his concerts you know they will faint at his funeral! For some Michael has affected their lives in many ways and its unbearable to see him in a casket. It's depressing and it makes you so upset and you just can't take seeing him lifeless! Darnit people should already know this and if his death hasn't affected you well that's too bad because you don't realize his greatness!

The Today Show on NBC is reporting that Michael may be buried at Forest Lawn as early as today (Monday).

Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson and others are expected to perform.

Diana Ross, and Elizabeth Taylor are expected to attend. None of this is confirmed, but this is what NBC is reporting.

If you read any of my post you will see this has affected me very deeply and in a very real way. That being said, I understood people objections and concerns about fainting to be about seeing a "dead body" not specifically Michael's body at the memorial. Thats what threw me for a loop, because most funerals and memeorials, there is a viewing with a body.

Really, I think the argument is moot b/c I seriously doubt Michael's body will be there. But if it is and the family is present, I think you should try and be strong for them and try to keep as much composure as possible.

Let me just say, Im really sorry if I minamized anyones feelings. I KNOW how hard this is on everyone. Im obliterated, I just cant believe this is happening, so just know that I feel like Ive lost my mind like you guys. I dont even know why the fuck this is happpening. Everyone around him saw this comming and noone stopped it....whatever... *tears*

I don't think that for safety reasons the casket should be there at all. I don't want to see Michael's lifeless body. I want to remember him alive and well and strong. I don't think the fans could handle that. Plus people would be trying to grab at the casket. It would be chaotic. A musical tribute would be appropriate.
