Great poems everyone. Thank you for sharing.
There has been so much suffering in the world this week, that I hesitate to post the poem that I wrote this evening. Yet... even in our darkest times, Nature calls our spirits to refresh ourselves in her Beauty. I hope and pray that God will comfort the hearts of those who have lost loved-ones in Burma and China and the USA, and that they will also be refreshed by Beauty, in time...
While I Swing
Swinging in the back yard
Gravity tussling with the sky
Sunset kissing the treetops
Copper-edged clouds
Too high to touch
Reflect the fire
Of a retreating sun
The half-moon
Switched on full
Gloats in triumph, high above
But down below
The lawn needs cutting
Shall I pick spinach for dinner?
Autumn is claiming the grape vine—
Valiant sentinel of the laundry…
Yet…
The washing basket lies abandoned
Pegs spilling from a yellow container
While I swing
And breathe
And smile
