MJ Short films not shot in 16:9 or 2.39:1 or 2.40:1 on film negative.

How about Los Angeles 89 that the estate owns, does anyone know the story of that concert? Was it some concert ready for release or just a coincidence that this was stored in U-Matic?

Does any collector have a copy of this U-Matic?

The quality is incredible.

WHAT IN THEE ENTIRE FCK RIGHT NOW! MAYBE I MIGHT BE LOSING IT BUT....I just know that is a beautiful video that's sitting somewhere on a reel & it's like the estate just doesnt give 2fcks about any of these short films....like (sigh) I could just choke branca!

The 35mm negatives needs to be found. Trouble is all the SFX were done with SD television in mind. It would mean rescanning the elements, then overlay the SD CGI parts over them and upscale those elements, shot by shot, to recomposite a full picture. It is not a simple task.

What could be an easy win are those straight 35mm films (I mean by this: no video effect, no CGI, nothing):
- The Way You Make Me Feel
- Bad
- Smooth Criminal
- Leave Me Alone
- Liberian Girl
- Speed Demon
- Come Together

In fact, the whole BAD era could be scanned and restored 😀

The whole Dangerous era films have lots of standard definition video effect on them, they are tricky. Black Or White may be the most difficult case of them. Remember The Time a close second.

If I recall correctly, Los Angeles '89 was one of many concerts that was planned to be released, but got cancelled. I wouldn't be surprised if the release had gotten to some level of completion, much like how Munich '97 was finished before being cancelled to quickly.

Anyways, this seems to be one of the concerts they'd keep just, on hand for anything. Clips of it were used in the 1989 Soul Train Awards, and obviously there in "The One" documentary. I would assume they still keep the U-Matic tapes around, btu i can't remember the last time they pulled footage from it.

It's upsetting knowing the Estate has so many concerts in U-Matic quality with good audio quality. Off the top of my head, there's like:
- Destiny Tour London
- Triumph Tour Los Angeles (25th & 26th)
- BAD Tour Yokohama
- BAD Tour March 6th
- BAD Tour Wembley (15th & Another Night)
- BAD Tour Los Angeles (Final Night)

I know it's still standard definition, but there's a benefit for them releasing SD content, much like the Prince Estate has been for the last few years. Even having an official release of something like Yokohama would be nice just for the better quality/colors.

Well, I'm done buying copies of albums again and again. I will never buy another CD copy of Bad, so I hope they release this as a standalone DVD, rather than a $200 "collector's edition" bundle.

At this point the Nirvana estate have lost out on something like 8 sales of full-length concerts because they simply won't actually release the things on their own.

Their loss I guess.
