Michael's Brothers' Careers

^^ Flo was right. Even weirder though he always said Motown was like a big family, Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations commented a year before his death that he only met Berry three times during his 17 years (1961-1978) in the label.
Yeah, this one:

^^

They were THAT dysfunctional too.

They basically treated the Marvelettes, Vandellas, Velvelettes and the other Supremes as stepchildren. Even The Four Tops and Temptations weren't treated fairly, I think. Marvin, despite getting in due to his marriage to Anna, later complained that Berry didn't give him the same type of promotion that he gave to Diana. Even Smokey, oddly enough, didn't get as much coverage as Diana got, lol.

There was LOVE tho but it was just strange.

He spent all this time and money on Diana, but most of her solo albums did no better than The Supremes 70s stuff. Marvin, The Commodores, Stevie Wonder, Rick James, etc sold better than she did. Flo also pointed out that nobody hired Diane as an actress but Berry.

^^ Right. Diana's solo albums actually did TERRIBLE throughout the rest of her Motown tenure. The only Motown albums she did real well were these:

Diana Ross (1970) - and that was mainly for the success of her cover of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"
Lady Sings the Blues (1972) - buzz from her Oscar-nominated role in the film
Touch Me in the Morning (1973) - because of the title track
Diana & Marvin (1973) - due to her duetting with Marvin, rather than the other way around and people criticized the album because Diana had more vocals on some of the tracks than Marvin ("Love Twins" is a good example)
Diana Ross '76 - "Love Hangover" and "The Theme from Mahogany"
The Boss (1979) - her first album to go RIAA gold
diana (1980) - CHIC produced it, lol

The real success she had consecutively as a solo artist was 1980's "Upside Down" culminating in 1985's "Missing You" and that was during her RCA run but that flopped after "Eaten Alive" and she hasn't recovered since.

Her success as a solo artist was really through performances in nightclubs, arenas, stadiums and venues.

There was also a rumor that Mary Wells was billed to receive acting roles had she stayed in Motown but I doubt that because Berry was pushing Diana as far back as 1963.

man it don't mean nothing. there's a difference from him cheating and someone cheating on his little girl! Lol

hmmm, idk. But I don't think Jermaine was a better singer than mj

listen to old jermaine and adult jermaine. as mj got older, his abilities changed. he's still an amazing vocalist but his voice is very different.

these guys need to get up off they ass and do an album. they all work in teh studio day in and day out yet never put anything out. they don't need mj for jack ish....they got the goods to d o it themselves. all they need is confidence

that's the problem. tito, last we spoke was in the studio. jackie and marlon were with him and jermaine had just friggin left. talking about an album they were gonna record on top of the album tito was gonna release...remember his tagline? 'tito's turn' cuz he was the only one who hadn't released a solo lp.

well that is either still going on or was scrapped b ut them jacksons is slow as molasses when it comes to things.

^^ I wouldn't trust either of them with album projects. I'll believe it when the album comes and they're on the covers. Plus the Jacksons are not just any family so they had to make a big entrance, they couldn't just do like the Temptations and the Four Tops because the group evolved around one particular member and when that one particular member left, they had problems they felt couldn't be solved with just four of them or even five of them. It's gotta be all six or else it won't work. Least that's how I see it. Maybe that's why they were too hesitant to do anything w/o MJ.

The Tops always had the same members until they got sick or died. Nobody really notices the Tempts without Eddie, David, or Dennis. Without them they got very little play, except for "Treat Her Like A Lady". Now it's just Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, & some other dudes, lol. I don't think it's just the brothers themselves, per se. It's not likely that anyone is offering them a deal. Maybe they can get on KOCH records where all the other old singers & groups go.

^^ True about the Tempts. The Temptations basically DIED in 1973 after Paul Williams succumbed and when Eddie and David returned for the 1982 reunion, it just was NOT the same (Eddie had lost his golden falsetto and David was going through a crack addiction that would end up being his downfall in 1991). Then they all started fading from us: after David died in '91, Eddie followed him in '92, Melvin Franklin was let go from the Tempts in early 1995 and died that same year. The only reminders of the Tempts' legacy are Otis Williams and Dennis Edwards (in his Temptations Revue). Of course The Four Tops' incredible longevity with all original members should be something that stands out amongst non-sibling Motown groups.

I have that reunion album. The weird thing about that is that Dennis is doing 95% of the lead vocals, with little by the other 6 other than "Standing On The Top".

naw someone was jerking their chain telling them that mj would sign on so they waited. tito's amazingly talented...michael who? lol
