I'm thinking - from Ele's commentaries referring to Christmas time - that the first single could be one of three options:
1. Hold My Hand - it's a ballad, slow song. And Michael has a history of starting an album off with a duet track (Thriller, Bad, HIStory, kinda Invincible).
2. Another ballad from the album that we have not heard.
3. Is there a possibility of Michael having recorded a Christmas song? Alec talked of a 1994 one. I never heard about that - do you have more info?
So I'm thinking Sony wants us to know that there ARE uptempo song on the album (by offering us Breaking News) and wants to appeal to the Christmas market (by making the 1st single a ballad).
Thoughts?
Ele, is that true that Sony told you Hold My Hand will be the lead single? (hopes not)
Gaz, yes we do want to know

I really don't want to be negative, but i'd be crushed in side if that was the case. Don't get me wrong, i'd love a new single, but a stronger one, i want people to see michael the way we do and Hold my hand is way to generic and non innovative for a musical great.
Well, do you think that TGIM and IJCSLY were both as strong and innovative as the other more known songs Michael had made?

No, but both were stronger tracks than HMH, IJCSLY was in a differen't league all together from it. Circumstances are not the same as they were then, people will be quicker to judge and not as interested, if they don't like the lead, they won't bother checking the rest of the album, only fans will, we live in an age of impatience and people have to deal with it. People's expectations change when it comes to Michael, they would be fine with HMH as the lead from another artist, but for Michael they would be extreemely disapointed.
