^^ I think it was a gift:

It is inscribed on the inside lining "To Bush and Dennis, All My Love, Michael Jackson," with the sleeve also signed "Love Michael Jackson."

Michael was too generous, I am certain these two thriller jackets meant a lot to him. Sadly they sold his love for gold.

  *big sigh*

he gave them the jacket for them to use it as basic and make copies for the ones he´s wearing on stage. They had asked him if he could dance freely in it and he had answered. "have you seen the video?"

So Michael Lee Bush answered the critics today on his facebook about why he gave away the jacket

I never thought Michael Bush was this hypocritical. He put the jacket on auction which means he had no say on who is the owner, or how the new owner gonna use the jacket (it could still stay in some rich man's closet). it was the highest bidder who paid him 1.8 million dollars planned to take the jackets all over the world doing the charity to honor Michael. Is Michael Bush gonna donate his 1.8 million dollars to children charity? if he did, then I will appology for my misunderstanding.

Nothing surprises me. We are talking about the same people who gave interviews for that pathetic ABC special.

sorry but he had no way of knowing who would be the highest bidder and what would they do with the jacket. It was a lucky outcome for Bush.

Watch this video if you didn't already. Milton Verret is talking about what he's going to do with the jacket(starts around 5:30). He tells that he will lend the jacket to any children's charity around the world that needs it for fundraising - he says his goal is to raise money for children's charities around the world. He says he'll use the Bad Jacket the same way. He also says the permanent home of the jacket will be "Dell Children's Hospital". It's blood and cancer hospital. 8.55 "I think Michael Jackson would have liked what I'm going to do with his jacket. It's been bought to help children. Period. No other reason."

Good. I hope he really does. :fear:

He seems like a really decent guy...I hope that his plans for fundraising are succesful..this is a very good cause.

Edit: Well that ^ was before I read another MJ site. Would have to limit further comments to the Controversy thread I think. Doesn't sound so good after all.
It seems that not everything ends Happily Ever After.
(although Mr Berret might not agree).

Hmmmm, this report tells it a bit differently.. maybe not the jacket but $100,000 to the Dell hospital, and the 'tour' is dependent on gaining corporate sponsorship.
It MIGHT be the way it is reported, but on the other hand.......

http://www.greenfieldreporter.com/view/story/6561dd3f3ad543a88ab26ca04661f892/TX--Thriller-Jacket/

AUSTIN, Texas — The red-and-black calfskin jacket Michael Jackson wore in his 1983 Thriller video is going on tour.

The new owner, an Austin commodities broker, said Tuesday he plans to take the jacket around the world to raise money for charities that help sick children.

Milton Verret, who recently purchased the jacket for $1.8 million, says he intends to line up corporate sponsors to fund a tour.

Verret already has an agreement with the auction house to give $100,000 from the sale of the jacket to the Superhero Kids Fund at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin.

(Edit: This 100k came from the designers?)

Austin, TX (PRWEB) July 19, 2011

Milton Verret, an Austin businessman and philanthropist, announced today that the jacket entertainer Michael Jackson wore for his landmark “Thriller” album performance in 1982 is now in Austin and will soon be employed to help raise money for children’s medical needs across the country — starting with Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin.

Verret, who recently won an auction for the jacket with a top bid of $1.8 million, announced that, as previously arranged with the auction house, $100,000 of the winning bid will go to the Superhero Kids Fund at Dell Children’s. The fund assists children and their families who are receiving treatment at Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Program.

Samia Joseph of Austin, a co-founder of the Superhero Kids Fund, and hospital officials accepted the $100,000 on behalf of the children and their families.

“Winning this auction meant so much to me, because it reflects two passions in my life: Helping these children at Dell Children’s who show so much courage fighting illness, and my love for classic rock-and-roll memorabilia,” Mr. Verret said.

“This jacket is an important part of music history, and I want to put it to good use by helping children who are seriously ill,” Mr. Verret said. “I plan to line up corporate sponsors and put the jacket on tour to raise money for programs that help sick children, across the United States and, I hope, around the world.”

The Thriller jacket was shown at a news conference today in Austin after arriving here on July 13. It will go on public display at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin the evening of July 27th during the official kickoff of Cow Parade Austin. The public is invited to take a picture with the Thriller jacket from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Verret won the bidding for the jacket sponsored by Julien Auctions of Beverly Hills, California.
Mr. Verret, who founded U.S. Money Reserve, a business that specializes in selling gold coins, also is leading another effort to raise money for the Superhero Kids Fund, the 2011 CowParade Austin.

The CowParade — which has been a major success in numerous other cities — has about 100 artistic “cows” that need corporate sponsors whose support will directly benefit Superhero Kids Fund. More than half of the cows have found sponsors — but more are needed. (cowparadeaustin.com)

Well I hope he is able to help the children. It seems Michael is always helping children, and if this works out, Michael will be happy. Sometimes I wonder what of Michael's remains with the Estate. So many things have been sold. What are they going to put in the museum, if we do get one--minor jackets from award shows?

I'm not gonna lie; if I had the dinero to buy that jacket, I'd keep it for myself, then upon my death, I'd will it to Michael's estate.
