A for the exclusion of Is It Scary. I'm sad about that too, but if it is a soundtrack to the animated film, maybe it just didn't go well with the movie? Besides Ghosts has similar lyrics and although I think Is It Scary is the better song but I think Ghosts is maybe more accessible to a general public and more on the fun-horror side than Is It Scary.
I am pretty sure both Sony and the Estate are aware of the reality of record sales these days (esp. for non-current artists). I guess it is also going to be put on Spotify, so it is not like the Estate is trying to make young people buy CDs. I think it is simply an accompanying album to a bigger campaign that seems to focus on MJ's horror themed releases around Halloween. Actually, it might even prove to be smart on the long term, because just like people keep buying certain Christmas albums every Christmas, maybe this will become the ultimate Halloween album over the years, that will sell at every Halloween. Just like Thriller the song itself has a Halloween boost every year.
This. Frankly, to me the constant whining and moaning is starting to take out the fun of being an MJ fan. This is by far the most negative fandom I know and it is not serving MJ well IMO. And yes, the whining was also there with projects like Xscape that proved to be pretty successful and where the Estate tried to compromise between old fans and aiming at new fans. I remember when LNFSG was announced as the first single and people were throwing tantrums about that here. And the whining was also there about Bad25 which spoilt us with many formerly unreleased tracks. So yes, I sometimes have the feeling that no matter what, the MJ fandom would always whine. And maybe that's why the Estate doesn't even try to please them any more, instead focuses on causual fans.
I am not saying this is a very exciting project for hard core fans, but thing is one week ago we didn't even know something was even gonna be released and now people are throwing tantrums about no new songs as if they have been promised something but stabbed in the back instead. When Branca said over and over again that there wouldn't be new songs any time soon. Not saying hard core fans have to buy it, or even like it, but frankly the overreaction ("pathetic", "the Estate is killing MJ's legacy" etc.) is annoying. Nothing with MJ's music is "pathetic" to me. Nothing that has MJ's original music is "killing his legacy". So please cut the drama! You only harm MJ with that.
