This is very terrible. Didn't Michael KNOW the conditions under which they were being kept? It wasn't recently that they were removed from Neverland. Or did he have an employee whose duty it was to make sure his animals were well-kept? And that person didn't do his/her job? (I suspect that's the case. . . )
I do animal welfare volunteer work. In animal "sanctuaries," in general, if people can't provide for the animals' needs (including proper enclosures) then they shouldn't HAVE those animals until they can. It's not enough to hope to get the proper permits "later." Being "kind-hearted" is not enough. One has to know what a particular animal needs to thrive, and then provide it . . . or don't take in the animals. IMHO.
Those animals were well taken care of and properly housed. Look at the videos and photos. If you read the articles it looks to me the town didn't want the preserve there.
