I am not a 100% sure but I believe it's merely a nervous habit and done subconsciously. Some people scratch their head, others bite their nails, lick their lips a lot, shuffle their feet constantly and Mike touched his nose when he felt selfconscious somehow.
It probably stems from the name calling by his father/family ( big nose), which is why he had all the surgeries on his nose. It became an obsession.
(My mom always told me boys don't like fat girls and she said it to help me but it only helped to make me feel self conscious and ugly and I ALWAYS felt fat even when I wasn't fat at all. And if I had the kind of money MJ had I would have had surgeries too, and liposuctions and stuff, although I realize now that you have to learn to love yourself as you are because nobody is perfect)
Please don't be mad at me for writing this. I don't want to offend anyone but I've always been very interested in psychology and this is my perception.
Maybe somebody else has a different theory that they feel fits better ?
