Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

Re: Madonna

Youth scares me! I was reading at a Gaga forum and there was a topic complaining about Gaga/Madonna comparisons. Many of her fans refuse to acknowledge their idol's heavy borrowing and influence from the real Queen of Pop. I read some of the dumbest comments I've ever seen in my life, ranging from the obligatory "Madonna's old" joke to simply being irrelevant. The problem with that logic of course, is that, legends can never be irrelevant. The real kicker for me though was the Gaga fan who said "Madonna's 15 minutes of fame are up". LMAO! Really? Madonna has been in the music business for 30 years and some little upstart comes along and brainwashes her ninkumpoop fans into have zero knowledge and even less respect?! Nice!

I did find one ray of light amidst the chaos and blasphemy...

I hate all this Gaga > Madonna nonsense.

We all love gaga, but timing and environment alone will never make that true. There will never be a day where any artist will be > Madonna, because it just can't be done at this point... her legacy is too far reaching.

She's the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega. Anything anyone ever does will be compared to her, as it already is.

Re: Madonna

Total truth, no? Some Gaga fans get it. ^

Re: Madonna

Gaga won't last long in the music business. People are already starting to get fed up with her and all her seeking attention acts!

i'm a fan of both, i'm excited about gaga's born this way album but i totally agree with that statement. madonna has done way too much for anyone else to catch up with her. madonna:
-has written her own songs and lyrics.
-has launched memorable fashion trends and images from her 40+ memorable videos like "lucky star", "material girl", "like a virgin" vmas, "like a prayer", "vogue", "ray of light", "music", "hung up"
-has both fluffy and meaningful music
-has starred in box-office movie hits (and flops)
-directed movies
-has her own fashion line
-has kids
-has filled stadiums, performing to millions of fans on her biggest tours
-does charity work

it's now a question of what madonna CAN'T do (arguably, sing and dance at the same time well live)

the "timing and environment" bit really got me. it also explains why there'll never be another male phenomenon like mj. his 5 main solo albums were in the days when top artists sold at least 10+ million for each album. with the music business the way it is, there'll never be another far-reaching superstar legend that everyone in the entire world knows. madonna is probably the last.

Re: Madonna

As everyone knows by now, before Madonna stalked the streets of New York's East Village in what would become the official outfit of the 1980s, she lived in suburban Michigan. For at least a few years, she resided with her family at 2036 Oklahoma Avenue in Rochester Hills (the home was built in 1970 and Madonna split in 1977). And now the 2,639 square-foot, four-bedroom home where one of the world's most beloved pop stars lived with her seven siblings can be yours for the seriously low, low price of $48,600. That's the least you'll ever pay to be close to something of Madonna's -- she earned $58 million last year according to Forbes, and her most recent real estate purchase was a $40 million New York townhouse.

Why is the Queen of Pop's castle so cheap? As real estate blog Zillow explains, the home was ravaged by a suspicious fire in 2008 and never renovated. Now it's what you'd generously call "a real fixer-upper." As photos posted on Curbed demonstrate, smoke, soot, and water damage have turned the charming family home into a spooky abandoned haunt.

Madonna's father and step-mother first sold the home in 2001 for $270,000, and it was flipped on eBay four months later for $331,000. The Colonial changed hands again in 2004 and 2005, and the current owners failed to show up in court when neighbors complained about its shoddy shape after the fire. Zillow reports the median price of a home in Rochester Hills is $173,400, so Madonna's house really is a steal. We're actually sort of surprised Michael Jackson's family hasn't swooped in yet with plans to turn it into a museum...

What's w/the Jackson reference?

Me too! :wild: I think this was a gift from someone. There's something written on the tiara: "..... You". I could not identify the other word.

Her Madge pulls royal movie out of Cannes as soundtrack isn't ready yet

There was a notable absence on the Croisette this year – Madonna.

The superstar had hoped to premiere her eagerly awaited movie W.E at the film festival this week, but screenings have been put on ice because the project is still not finished.

Madonna, 52, had wanted to showcase her film, about King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson, but she is still making finishing touches to the soundtrack and there are three weeks more of post production to complete before the film is ready to be screened to an international audience.

‘It was hoped that Madonna would be the star of this year’s Cannes,’ says a source at the festival.

‘But the film isn’t ready. While the movie’s distributors will attend the festival, they will preview select cuts to buyers at private screenings instead of showing the entire feature.’

The movie is the singer’s first big-budget directorial role.

She has secured backing from Indian billionaire Anil Ambani’s IM Global film financiers and an insider who has seen the rushes says: ‘The movie is actually rather good.’

Madonna is desperate for W.E to resurrect her ailing film career.

She signed up Newcastle-born actress Andrea Riseborough as Wallis Simpson and James D’Arcy as Edward.

Bafta winner James Fox plays King George V, Natalie Dormer is the young Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon while Laurence Fox plays Bertie, Edward’s younger brother and the future King George VI.

Madonna’s 14-year-old daughter Lourdes has a cameo role.

The film was shot on location in the South of France last July, and in London and New York.

‘Madonna is 100 per cent focused on ensuring that the film is perfect. She has been in London’s Abbey Road studios working on the soundtrack with producer William Orbit,’ says the source.

‘They are now looking towards a London premiere later this year or early 2012 – the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year – which Madonna hopes will allow them to capitalise on its British Royal theme.’

A spokesman for Optimum Releasing, the film’s UK distributor, said: ‘The film was not due to be shown in Cannes. It is in post production and will now be released early next year.’

I'm very anxious to watch W.E.!!! :wild: :timer:

I hope that it's well received because M has put so much of her time in to it. She's really been working hard and it has kept her from giving us new music which is what made us love her to begin with.
Yes!!!!

Re: Madonna

I saw it. Madonna gave a nice speech as only she could (Oprah's got balls haha).

Re: Madonna

You make a good point that the only other artist to emerge over the last 25yrs (well since the early to mid 80's) since Michael, is Madonna who can still have huge hits.

In Prince's defense. His current music post Diamond's & Pearls (released in 1991) may no longer be relevant. But he has opted out of the music industry and has no interest in having mainstream hits, and mainly focuses on touring. He's still a hugely successful touring artist, and that is where most money is made in music these days.

That's very true. Albums do nothing at all for the artists, and not really much of anything for the record companies (since most are illegally downloaded).

P.S. This is my 4,000th post and how fitting it be in the Madonna topic. ^_^

Hey....

Arianne Phillips said on twitter that Madonna would be preparing an unpublished essay to magazines Vanity Fair and Love. But Arianne deleted the tweet. LOL Is it true? Let's see... :timer: And I never heard of this magazine Love.

I've been feeling some Madonna lately. I've been going back to her first album and listening to the song, Physical Attraction. I love that tune.
