Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

Re: Madonna

Secret Garden isn't that long. Gonna pick up American Life this weekend.

It seems to!

I hope you enjoy it, let us know what you think. In all honesty it did take a while to grow on me as it's quite a departure.

Re: Madonna

Annoying how they didn't put the proper 'American Life' video on the compilation - it was so nearly a complete collection.

Has anyone got details on a new album yet?

I'm hoping for something acoustic & breezy, songs like One More Chance, Nothing Fails...

That is the one time Madonna backed off from being controversial, and I really wish she hadn't. The original AL video is creative and fits the song much better and really brings the whole thing together. I do wish she would have stuck with her gut but I do understand given the climate of the country at the time (Dixie Chicks being banned from radio, etc).

BTW, there are different versions floating out there -

Original (?) :

This version has body parts on the runway and no George Bush at the end:

And here's the boring, generic, politically correct version we ended up with (sorry, couldn't embed this one) :

P.S. Drew, I'm really excited for you to experience American Life. I hope you enjoy as much as I do. :)

Re: Madonna

After the recommendations American Life is on the way.

And naturally, it didn't stop there. Ray Of Light has also been bought which is also heading my way. Don't recommend any more or I'll be broke by the time I've got 'em all!!! Although I know it's gonna be worth it.

I checked out the AL videos as well. It's about bloody time someone got a bit controversial but as usual it's too un-PC for the world to digest. They did it to Michael with the stuff on HIStory (the TDCAU prison video) and to that - which is pure genius. She needs to do something like that again and seriously shock. Nobody's shocking the world anymore. Seeing body parts might turn people off but by god does it grab your attention.

Thanks again Travis and Tony.

Let us know what you think of the albums once you've had time to digest. These are by far two of her most artistic albums. Madonna doesn't get enough credit for just how creative she really is.

I hope we haven't built it up too much.

I remember when she performed American Life & Nothing Fails at the MTV album launch (I forget it's name), Nothing Fails blew me away, it was like the new Like A Prayer.

Re: Madonna

I'm very happy to help. I love introducing possible new fans to Madonna's rich catalog and re-introducing old fans like yourself.

P.S. Did you get everything figured out and downloaded?

Hey Travis. I got my girlfriend to try part 2 of the rapidshare link, but the link no longer works. I'm just wondering if you could repost another link for it? If you have one. Cheers.

Drew, cheers for posting that track. I'm on it.

No worries. I read about it on Wikipedia - the outtakes - and found that title and went on a webventure.

Broken isn't a bad song but I prefer Celebration or It's So Cool over it for some reason. Not for the reason they're more polished and produced but they just seem more interesting for whatever reason I can't think of.

Madonna has so much leaked stuff I've noticed. Far more than MJ's ones.

I've never delved into leaked work, I found with Michael it diluted a nearly perfect back catalogue (although it did bring up the odd gem as well).

I think It's So Cool & Celebration are pretty weak, yet I love Revolver. I know it's a throwaway, gimmicky song but it's real fun & so catchy.

Actually, MJ has far more leaked songs than Madonna. I honestly don't think she records too many extra tracks when making an album (unlike MJ). It wasn't until the last couple of years that M extras started to surface. Even so, there still aren't many out there.

Are there any that I'm really missing out on?

Here ya go. Click on 'slow download' and wait a minute and you should be able to download the file. Better luck to ya! :)

Awesome. Done it! Are the only 2 bonus tracks 'It's So Cool & Celebration (Benny Remix)? I've added them to my dvd version of Celebration. Thanks again for the link.

Agree with you. It's So Cool is quite brilliant.

Yip. 'It's So Cool' & 'Broken' are really worth having.

From what I'd read there seemed to be quite a few. Whether they're any good is another question.

There's a Felguk Love remix of about six minutes:

It can bring down the BC a bit but it's always worth it to see how the record evolved from style to style which is always a bit of fun. I do like Revolver but it's the rapper in it that seems to annoy me, and only a few weeks ago figured out what it was he was on about.

Re: Madonna

In terms of rare tracks, I love 'Let Down Your Guard', B side of Secret.

Re: Madonna

Well, looks as if Madonna continues to inspire the younger generation of female entertainers. Gaga just released "Born This Way" and it sounds like "Express Yourself" 2.0.

Re: Madonna

Lady Gaga's Born This Way made me miss Madonna.

If I could start a twitter revolution it would be #BRINGMADONNABACK

Re: Madonna

i love Lady Gaga but this song is very Madonna-ish the lyrics the music and the way she sing !!

i love them both but i do not like the song it is very dated like the cheesy songs of the 90's !

:fear:

I heard this song today. -_- This whole thing inspired by Madonna's getting boring and tiring. I think Gaga should leave this one bit and use more creativity. And I can not wait for Madonna to launch a new album. :timer: :wild: :punk:

Yeah, because Mike was 100% original and not at all influenced by James Brown.

Oh Jesus...

1st. This is not about MJ

2nd. Are you seriously comparing Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga because I'm pretty sure he didn't spend 40yrs working to be compared to Gaga. That is just INSULTING. And what he did was he TOOK IT, changed it, and improved it. She just took it. Okay?

Re: Madonna

Yeah, because Mike was 100% original and not at all influenced by James Brown.

I know Mike loved James but I really don't think their style was all that similar to be honest. MJ was a far superior dancer and his music was very different as well. I mean no disrespect to James Brown. I know he laid down the foundation and all, but I'm simply saying that even though MJ looked up to brown and did take inspiration, I really don't see that much reflection in MJ's music or career. That's just my opinion. However, this isn't about MJ or his influences. This is about Gaga who is very obviously "inspired" by Madonna and keeps taking pages out her playbook.

Re: Madonna

I too, will be glad when the original pioneer steps back in to the game and shows them all how it's done. Madonna may not sell as many albums as Gaga or Britney will, BUT, the music will be hers and she'll always be the Queen of Pop. And besides, Madonna still does very well for herself despite her age and all the wannabes cashing in on her sound and image. One place where none of them can touch her is touring. Not only can she outsell them, but she can out perform them as well (and actually sings live unlike most).

I agree. 100%.

1000% agree!

Re: Madonna

Alright - Ray Of Light came sometime last week and I think it's awesome.

It has that 90s-ATB / Sash-type sound to it and a great production even with the absence of live studio work. I can't choose my favourite though it varies from Nothing Really Matters, Sky Fits Heaven, Skin, Frozen and Ray Of Light. It took me a little while to adjust to Ashtangi but I'm getting there.

I'll write a better review sometime soon.

I think I'm the only one that's not as enamoured with RoL as the rest of the world!

I love the title track though and the album itself is much better than Music.

Have you picked up American life yet?

In a year I'll be saying half the album bores me to death. It happens every time and maybe out of 300 albums I'm able to go right back through maybe 100 of those and listen right through without being bored or skipping one track.

American Life is on the way. I'm actually more excited to hear that one more than RoL. For whatever reason I can't get past Little Star or Mer Girl. When those come on I switch off.
