well sorry but your brother is a total dumbass for comparing a blockbuster superhero movie which has been part of an established franchise for decades, to a concert documentary. Now if he had compared The Dark Knight to Spider-Man 2, fair enough, but there is no sense in comparing the viewing figures for an action film designed to rake in the cash, and a documentary (and documentaries never do well in the cinema, the success of TII already goes to show that for a docu, it is MASSIVE) which was never even intended to be a movie in the first place.

It's like apples and oranges. Also, movie studios spend millions on advertising for movies like The Dark Knight, but because TII basically cost nothing to produce aside from the 60mil to buy the raw footage, they are being minimal on their promotion costs so they can make more profit. The success of TDK was largely due to the massive hype and early Oscar buzz it had. And Heath Ledger obviously. There has been pretty much no decent promotion here in the UK and the rest of Europe for TII. Europe is a huge cinema market. The 'hype' for TII is all word of mouth. So if it's not doing as well as predicted in some areas, you can blame Sony Pictures. It's not a reflection on the quality of the movie. It's getting amazing reviews anyway, much more positive reviews than TDK got when it came out. Critical and artistic success >>> commerical success. Also if you take in the fact that TII opened on Halloween week, on a wednesday, which is always a slow week for cinema, and TDK opened during summer 'blockbuster season' on a weekend. Far more people go to the cinema during school/work holidays in the summer. And the opening weekend is almost always the biggest turn out for any movie. If TII had opened in July on a Friday with a little extra promotion we would be talking much bigger numbers.
