Michael Jackson To Thrill With Tour?
By Rachel Webster
on June 20, 2008 3:00 PM
People are talking about Michael Jackson, and it’s not because of a scandal at Neverland Ranch. The new word is Jackson may be planning a tour, backed by producer/rapper Swizz Beatz.
“I'm working on this new Michael Jackson sh--," Swizz told MTV.com. "I'm probably gonna be producing his tour and everything.”
MJ has not released a statement about the rumored tour, nor have any dates been released. Thriller 25th Anniversary, Jackson's last album, was released in February of this year by MJJ productions.
The last time Jackson toured was more than 10 years ago during the aptly named HIStory Tour, divided into two legs running from September 1996 to October 1997. The HIStory Tour included 82 shows in 58 cities in 35 countries.

Britain’s got talent Signature to perform with Michael Jackson
Dance duo Madhu Singh and Suleman Mirza, who are Signature, were the runners up from this year’s Britain’s Got Talent. The pair has now had to put their day jobs on hold; Mirza was a trainee solicitor while Singh worked for PC World. The pair has worked hard on their dance act, and it seems that Britain’s Got Talent has giving them a huge boost.
A few people have now approached Signature; Virgin Media are thought to have offered them a six-figure sum for their Bollywood service. The pair is also in talks with a major retailer for a TV advertising campaign; they have also been booked to perform at a number of corporate events, four of which are being held in Dubai.
Singh and Mirza are most exited about being approached by associates of Michael Jackson. We all know that The King of Pop is planning a world tour at the end of the year, and it looks as though Signature might get to perform with their hero. Madhu has said “’So many young people have come up and said “I voted for you”, and it is even more rewarding when the older people say it. This is like a dream come true and anything more that happens will be a bonus.” Suleman, followed up by saying “It would be incredible if we got to work with Michael Jackson. We got a text from one of his friends which said: “Michael Jackson is aware of you and is looking forward to working with you in the future.”

Batter up! Catfish frying at Pierre's new place
By Hector Gutierrez, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)
Originally published 11:41 a.m., June 20, 2008
Lawrence Pierre thought he’d fried his last catfish after closing his namesake supper club in North Capitol Hill five years ago.
But now at 84 years old, he’s trying to reel in loyal Louisiana soul food customers to a new locale a few miles east.
Pierre’s back in the eatery business again, in the Skyland neighborhood, a couple of blocks north of the City Park Municipal Golf Course. A small red-and-yellow sign now sits in the 3400 block of East 28th Avenue: “Pierre’s Now Open.”
The new name: Pierre’s on Madison.
Pierre got rid of his historic club at 2157 Downing St. after 40 years of serving patrons who included Michael Jackson, the late attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. and former NBA star Scottie Pippen. He leased the building to others, letting them use his name to continue the eatery, but that venture was short-lived. Meanwhile, Pierre decided to travel a little more and take up a new venture.

The mellow 'Heart Songs' has a light hip-pop feel to it and could be easily adapted to fit the needs of a boy band or pop singer. Another classic Cuomo moment, the lyrics serve as a bio of Cuomo's musical journey from listening to Springsteen, Stevens and Joan Baez as a boy before moving onto Metallica, Judas Priest and Michael Jackson right up until the recording of Weezer's debut. It's a great song and another future single.

This year, neo-soul belter Shaw was nominated for -- but didn't win -- a Grammy in the category of Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for his single, I Am Your Man, from the album This is Ryan Shaw. Although the stadium was designed to maximize the ravine's natural acoustics with a then-cutting-edge sound system (modeled after Teatro alla Scala in Milan), the park didn't hold a live music performance until 1966, when the Beatles played the penultimate leg of what would be their final tour. A slightly different collaboration is the teaming of Fall Out Boy and John Mayer for a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” This track doesn’t feature both acts singing; instead Mayer accompanies the guys on guitar, rocking it up for their version Wentz said might make Michael “roll in his non-existent grave.” Wentz added it was as easy as asking Mayer if he’d want to take part before the track was created. Though not on any Fall Out Boy or Mayer album, you can hear it on the band’s live DVD, “****: Live in Phoenix.”

The R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo, who opened for Ms. Keys, was similarly challenged. During his set he borrowed shifts, shakes and spins from Michael Jackson; they matched his melodies and arrangements, cribbed from the same pop legend.

Gunfire interrupts peace march
By JENS MANUEL KROGSTAD, Courier Staff Writer

Hence, 55, sat on his front porch and enjoyed a light breeze, nodding his head to old Michael Jackson songs escaping from an open window in his home.
The sound of gun fire didn't surprise him. Over the years, people have brawled on his front yard, he said, and fired guns just feet from where he sat.

Dodger Stadium stands test of time
Despite faults, ballpark remains major attraction
By ANDREW BARKER

Although the stadium was designed to maximize the ravine's natural acoustics with a then-cutting-edge sound system (modeled after Teatro alla Scala in Milan), the park didn't hold a live music performance until 1966, when the Beatles played the penultimate leg of what would be their final tour. Since then, the stadium has hosted a number of major concerts, from Bruce Springsteen to Michael Jackson, U2, Elton John and the Police, with Madonna on tap for November.

Nancy Hall: A look at pop's crazy collaborations

A slightly different collaboration is the teaming of Fall Out Boy and John Mayer for a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” This track doesn’t feature both acts singing; instead Mayer accompanies the guys on guitar, rocking it up for their version Wentz said might make Michael “roll in his non-existent grave.” Wentz added it was as easy as asking Mayer if he’d want to take part before the track was created. Though not on any Fall Out Boy or Mayer album, you can hear it on the band’s live DVD, “****: Live in Phoenix.”
