Eddie Murphy: Delirious 25th Anniversary DVD Review

Remember when Eddie Murphy used to be funny?

Eddie Murphy. The name is very polarizing when you mention it these days, but there used to be a time when he was one of the all time comedic greats. The man had a great run on Saturday Night Live, and then began to get back into stand-up. Delirious was his first big stand-up comedy special, and it aired on HBO in 1983. The world took notice of the man's ability to make a packed stadium seating audience laugh, and Eddie Murphy quickly became the guy for comedy in the eighties. Immediately following the release of this special, Murphy would go on to star in Beverly Hills Cop (1984).

Murphy also gets his digs in on anyone, in an attempt to mock and honor at the same time. James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Jackie Gleeson, Ricky Ricardo, and even Michael Jackson. Sure, a Michael joke is easy to make now, but back then all Eddie had to work with was MJ's girly voice. He does a spot-on impression, and actually sings like the man. His impressions are also really good and only enhance the special.

JARVIS COCKER - JARVIS COCKER'S JACKSON REGRET

Jarvis Cocker says he regrets protesting against Michael Jackson at the 1996 BRIT Awards because it took too much attention away from his music.

Jarvis Cocker regrets his Michael Jackson protest.
The former Pulp singer says he was uncomfortable with the attention he attracted when he invaded the stage during the 'Thriller' star's performance of 'Earth Song' at the 1996 BRIT Awards because it stopped people focussing on his music.

He told Spin magazine: "That one action transported me to a kind of tabloid fame, which I couldn't have imagined. My whole set of values had nothing to do with that kind of tabloidy thing. It took me a long time to work through.

"I just pushed it too far with that thing, because it wasn't, 'Jarvis Cocker played an amazing song at the BRIT Awards last night'. It was, 'Jarvis Cocker t**ted about at the BRIT Awards last night'.

"I had been in a band 15 years, and in 15 seconds, I became more well known. All that bloody work! Thrown away!"

Today in
Michael Jackson History

2004 - Los Angeles Lieutenant Art Miller said in a written statement that "on May 28, 2004, detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division officially concluded their two-month investigation into allegations of child abuse against Michael Jackson. After an extensive investigation, which included hours of interviews with the person making the allegations, detectives concluded there was no evidence that any crime occurred. No charges will be sought." The charges were unrelated to the charges in Santa Barbara, CA.

2005 - Closing arguments in the Michael Jackson child molestation trial took place.

Eddie Murphy did an AMAZING impression of MJ in Delirious. I was in amazement when i heard him sing. Lol.

Thanks for the News/Mentionings :)

Thanks for posting
I don't like him,Jarvis Cocker, that he went on the stage and act like that:( but with/without him.. MJ show Earth song on that day was beautiful.

What's even worse is that Jarvis Cocker pulled his pants down in front of all those children.

Now why wasn't the press calling him a pervert or the other "p" word.. He was exposing himself to little children.. damn the world is bias..

I'm not defending what he did, but he DID NOT pull his pants down, check the footage. :agree:

He didn't expose himself, that's why. Check the footage. :agree:

No they don't. The footage doesn't show him doing that because he didn't. check the footage for yourself.:agree:

Sometimes, the people on this board are as bad as all those anti-MJ people on TMZ. Bashing people, stating fiction as fact without even realising what you're saying is complete nonsense.

Effectively all he did was climb on stage, bend over and wave his hands behind his bum. It was disrespectful but that's about it really.

The Jarvis Cocker story is a perfect example of a man who gets what he gives. Karma. He will always be remembered as a childish, self absorbed man who felt that he had the right to try to belittle someone else. Not a great way to be remembered (even if he didn`t pull his pants down... its the act in itself and the intention I am talking about).

I find it funny that in comparison most people who has met Michael describe him as humble, down to earth and just a nice person to be around.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up.. I will edit my post..

Cocker is a muppet because he knows full well he wouldn't get remotely near the same attraction for his mediocre music that such a publicity stunt got him.

and of course, it's quite ironic and hypocritical that he's going on about "not in my ethics" for people to concentrate on things other than the work. what exactly happened to MJ that night then, Cockster?

Eugh, Jarvis Cocker...go eff yourself!
I hate what he did to Michael that performance. :(

Look at it again, bobmoo79. When Jarvis stops waving his hands, you see more than his pants. You see the skin of his behind.

Again, if MJ had done anything even close to that, the media would have ripped him to shreds. Look at what he was taken through just for holding someone's hand?

i was waiting for a post like this, lol.....

i reckon it helped him, taking the focus off his music is a good thing to my ears.

Jarvis is ignorang and a little kid. Who does stuff like that? What did he expect, people to take him seriously now??!?!?

Oh man i almost forgot about that dude. I only recall that he's a huge ass. But exactly what and WHY did Jarvis do what hedid?

except he went on stage b4 mj even got to that part if i remember right. .basically the brits is seen as a free piss up its notorious for drunken behaviour he was drunk so decided to do what he did.

So 13 years after the fact, Jarvis finally decides to be ashamed of himself. And IMO, he only feels bad now because he can't escape the shadow of what he did to Michael. Jarvis was a full grown man. He could have just gotten up and left the doggone building if he didn't like Michael's performance. Nobody can please everybody. But Jarvis did something implicitly disgusting in front of Michael and pushed over some kids in the process. Now, we're supposed to feel sorry for Jarvis because he still has this hanging over his head? I sure don't.

I don't remember seeing this part of the show.

The video I remember seeing was at the end of a performance of Earth Song, Jackson--dressed all in white--stood in the middle of the stage with his arms spead wide while the people on stage went up to hug him. Jarvis Cocker--or maybe it was someone else--ran onstage and pulled his pants down. He later said it was because he was offended by Jackson fashioning himself as Christ.

Now I saw all this on ET. They claimed that Jackson had not seen what happened and that the children were crying and upset. I remember Howard Stern making jokes about it because he saw the video as well.

Was this someone else? Was what I saw a separate performance?

Nope. That's exactly what happened.
