John Textor: possible‘Michael Jackson’hologram concert next year

Maybe technology is ready and viable to make a hologram concert but the real essence of a concert it will be lost, such a cold, no thanks.

I wish they would use Michaels real movments for a hologram , A good source is the green suit Michael wore to make the Ghosts skeleton dance.

No more hologram shows.
Michael is gone, and nothing and no one can ever replace him.
Using a hologram or an impersonator just to be able to have a Michael Jackson show is in my opinion highly disrespectful. It doesnt even come close to the real Michael.

The show must go on? Not without Michael.

Speaking of holograms-this company is busy-Whitney Houston, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Elvis-and now JACKIE WILSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And like the others, his family is on board.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hologram USA announced the recreation of legendary R &B star Jackie Wilson for a full stage show of the dynamic presence that changed the entertainment business for ever. The tour will launch in 2017 and tour the nation. It will also be co-produced by FilmOn TV Networks and distributed online via FilmOn.com.

The announcement was made by Hologram USA CEO Alki David, Plateau Music Nashville CEO Tony Mantor and the Family of Jackie Wilson.

A Grammy Hall of Famer, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Jackie Wilson was a pioneering soul and R &B singer still revered today for his hit "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher." The Detroit native's influence went well beyond the genre he helped define, with his electrifying stage act driving audiences into a frenzy and earning him the nickname, "Mr. Excitement." When people called him "The Black Elvis," Elvis Presley would correct them and call himself, "The White Jackie Wilson." When Michael Jackson won his Grammy for Thriller in 1984 he dedicated it to Wilson.

"My family and I are extremely happy to see Jackie performing again," said Harlean Wilson, Jackie's widow. "It is almost like he is still here with us and bringing his music alive for all his fans to enjoy once again."

The show will include selections from his repetroire of major hits which include, "Lonely Teardrops," "Whispers (getting louder)," "I Get the Sweetest Feeling," and "I'll be Satisfied."

"Everything you expect from an exciting "rock star" stage show was invented by Jackie Wilson: the leaps, spins and back-flips, not to mention his amazing four octave range," said Alki David, CEO of Hologram USA. "The show Hologram USA and FilmOn TV is developing will bring all that artistfy and energy to life. I'm so pleased to partner with Plateau Music and the Wilson family to bring Jackie to audiences across America.'

The Wilson family, including Sabrina, Thor and Bobby Brooks Wilson, issued this statement: "We're speechless and amazed to see what today's technology can generate. It has been 40 years since our father has performed and his last performance was at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in 1975. To see our father on stage in 2016 has lifted us 'Higher and Higher' and now we have no more 'Lonely Teardrops' cause he did it his way!"

"I am honored to be part of the team putting legendary R &B singer, Mr. Excitement, Jackie Wilson back on stage for the world to enjoy again," said Tony Mantor, producer and CEO, Plateau Music Nashville. "It will be so gratifying to introduce this talented performer to a new generation of fans that will get to see the sheer talent that influenced and inspired many of todays singers."

Hologram USA and FilmOn TV are also creating hologram shows with the estates of Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, Billie Holiday, Dean Martin, Whitney Houston and many more. The technology has also been used to create live appearances including beaming ABC's Jimmy Kimmel to the Country Music Awards in Nashville, Julian Assange into the United States and virtual town halls across India that helped Prime Minister Narendra Modi win the election.

Hologram USA is using its technology and partnerships with celebrity estates to create branded content as well. And all projects are supported by Alki David's Anakando Media Group of companies: performances will be live streamed on FilmOn.com, digitally distributed by MondoTunes, and given social influencer support by Class 15.

Chinese enterprises invest to bring back dead stars

Two Chinese companies announced on Monday that they would invest in Pulse Evolution to bring back Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson in virtual hologram form.

An executive from Original Force Animation, who asked for anonymity in this story, told China.org.cn that the company and Shanghai U9 Game Co., Ltd. have invested US$10 million into Pulse Evolution headed by John Textor to explore the market for digital virtual characters.

Original Force and U9 Game will have seats on the board of Pulse Evolution and will participate in the operation of the company. "Investing in Pulse Evolution is in consideration of Original Force's long term strategy," the executive said, adding they did so to take up a share of the market in advance and place their position on the map in the industry.

Pulse Evolution is now licensed to work on shows of three deceased mega stars, namely, Elvis Presly, Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe. The executive said they will first present virtual shows featuring Jackson in several selected places in China and that in the next year, Pulse will work hard to pull off an Elvis show.

One of its most famous and outstanding achievements was the Michael Jackson virtual performance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards in 2014, which stunned audiences and industry professionals. Jackson, in hologram form, performed "Slave to the Rhythm" midway through that night's show with a five-piece band and 16 dancers live onstage.

The Original Force executive said they will do the shows of three deceased stars separately at first, and then they would consider having them perform together. He added that in future, Jackson's performances would be better than what was shown during the Billboard Music Awards by hiring the best dancers in the world and reviewing Jackson's past performances in order to make it as perfect as it can be.

The virtual stars will not only appear in hologram shows, but they would be used and activated in various areas such as Virtual Reality, a mobile app, stage shows and commercials. Some observers said the three stars alone can produce more than US$300 million in market value.

The executive also said they would consider making virtual holograms of Chinese celebrities and they have got in touch with estates of a few deceased Chinese stars.

"The virtual performances will be a tribute to the deceased stars, and they would be an extension of fans' emotions," the executive said, "and when compared with biographies, commemorative records and other merchandise, the virtual shows will be more direct and innovative. What's more, there's great potential and creativity in it, even the living stars can have a virtual self on stage to perform together."

^That's interesting. I didn't know that Pulse actually had the MJ licence now. I thought the previous hologram show was just a one-off. Also, I thought that the Presley family were not totally OK with the concept of hologram shows from the article below dated 30 Oct 15.

Priscilla Presley 'not quite convinced' by the idea of an Elvis hologram.

The former wife of Elvis said she would react strongly against attempts to abuse his legacy

No matter if they make this "perfect" don't they have to have the Estate on board with it?

So far I've only read Whitney Houston, Jackie Wilson and Billie Holiday's families are happy about doing it.

What's the deal with Priscilla and the Elvis Estate? I hadn't thought she was involved at all but then I saw her promoting that latest Elvis album.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd actually really really like this if they fully digitally rendered MJ like they did tupac instead of getting a body double like they did for Slave to the Rhythm.
What many of the people shooting this idea down don't realize is that many people never got to experience the magic of an MJ concert, and this would be the perfect way to make that happen.
Now when it comes to MJ's dancing they would just have to use rotoscope because no one can dance like MJ.
Also, MJ loved to pioneer new things, so imagine how he'd love to have the first holographic world tour.
It could be called the Legends Reign Tour (or just the Legend Tour) and the slogan could be "The King has Returned", or "The King Reigns."

If they can do it properly then go ahead. It would be interesting to see them make a hologram from each era. Maybe a jacksons era, bad era, dangerous era etc as long as they don't use an inpersonator.

Hmmm...that would be a very interesting idea, and I certainly wouldn't be against it. As long as it's done well, of course. *sigh* just the idea of seeing something that's as close to seeing the real thing as we can get right now...that's all I could ever ask for

It won't be the same... People would react differently to a hologram and a living person. I'm not a fan of imitators though. The one that resembled Michael the most is the one that made camoes in Scary Movies whose contents are... Are we allowed to use profanities?

Well, shit isn't censored :D

I know I don't speak for everyone but no one now is as good as him, and I never got to see him live, so a hologram is as close as I'd ever get. :)

The biggest travesty in the history entertainment is that a Jackie Wilson show was never recorded. Few performances gere and there over the years but no Jackie experience. The world was denied, supposedly, the GREATEST shows ever.

I have never seen Michael in person either it will need to be perfect no impersontors please.. Why can their not use pepper ghost that Michael had for Ghost? That is as close as you are going to get to Michael moves their really need to work on it. There was some mistake in the Billboard Awards.

Same here. I think, if it were done nicely, it could be really amazing. Of course it's not the same, but I think it could be a great experience (technically as well).
Oh and also.. wouldn't it be great if Michael was the first one they're doing this with? Michael was always ahead of his time. This would be something new and never-before-seen, at least on that scale. It seems only fitting if Michael should be chosen to present this new technique to the world. :)

But, as I was saying, it would have to be done as well as possible.

Exactly!

MJ loved to be ahead of everyone else and pioneer new things, so I believe he would love to have the first hologram world tour, but of course it would have to be perfect because MJ himself accepted nothing less then perfection when it came to his performances.

If it's as bad as that impersonator was on STTR, then no thanks.

IMO, hologram world tours are just the matter of time… IDK how I actually feel about it, but I guess one day it will be a norm and I don’t mind Michael to be the first with this.

I also think that a lot depends not just on how good the hologram will be, but how staged and introduced it will be.
In Circus One show there’s a hologram too but it appears in time and the story goes perfectly with it – I haven’t heard complains about it.

Absolutely. I saw him a few times on tv when I was a kid and I've seen those segments since on YouTube but from what I've read, it's nothing like he was in his stage shows. I'd give anything to experience that.
And I think of that when people say they want Michael to tour as a hologram. Would I go see Jackie as one?? I don't know-maybe in the right setting with an enthusiastic receptive audience like at the Apollo or something.
But I'd rather see the real thing on film.

For example the Slave to the Rhythm hologram was just some impersonator with CGI head that didn't even look like Michael. The holograms would be no different to just watching impersonators perform. I wouldn't pay to see that.

That's why I think it would be great if they completely created MJ's hologram from scratch like they did Tupac's, and if they used rotoscoping for the dancing I think it would be perfect (or near perfect).:D
The only thing missing would be the crowd interaction that MJ was famous for, and that could somewhat be solved with AI.
The only problem would be that the noise of a huge crowd would be too much for current AI to handle/compute.

Nonetheless, that's why I said I know I don't speak for everyone.

I'm pretty sure that Tupac hologram still used impersonator. Someone did the motion capture.
