Janet's book #1...

Good got her, where is she ranked on NYT?
Is this the first book she has written? Great to have a no 1 book, but it cannot be added to her musical #1s obviously, this has nothing to do with music, so how can it be counted as a single/album and added to the others?

Yeah its been fluctuating between one and two for a while.
According to the publisher, its a New York Times bestseller:

Karen Hunter Publishing
wants to thank everyone for your support in helping to make @Janet Jackson's True You a No. 1 New York Times bestseller! We couldn't do that without you. Blessings!

Plus Janet has more than 36 number ones quite a few were left off number ones :)

If I knew that I would have posted it :) but I can't see the point of them saying it if its false.
Also Janet's choreographer has confirmed it too, but I don't know why he would know this other than being Janet's friend.

they are lying unless it's going to happen next week. Here is the list for the week ending February 27. I don't see it in Fiction or Non-fiction. I do see Jay-Z's ' Decoded' in the non-fiction list

They are talking about next weeks, obviously its not on this weeks list, and I think it will be in the hardcover advice section most likely.

I don't know where she is ranked on NYT but I have the amazon rankings

why not it was released on the 13th right?.. It's been over a week since it's release. I wonder why she didn't go on her girl Oprah's show to promote it? Doesn't Harpo still have her book club?

Janet's book makes the NY Times best sellers list. What then, your life is ruin.????

NYT does have an "Advice & Misc" list ..she might be #1 on that one.

I would be VERY surprised if she was #1 on the non fiction list. Just the fact that the publisher did NOT mention the category, makes me think it's not one of the major list.

But #1 on one of their lesser knowns list is credible.

O.O

I would be shocked too

I asked the library near me to order it, so I hope it comes in soon. I really want to read it. Like Janet, I have had problems with my weight all my life. Right now I am seeing a nutrionist, and getting counceling. Janet's book came a good time. I can't wait to read it :)

I forgot you can go to the library and get them to get it for you, my grandma does it all the time. I wish you well on your journey to a healthier life.

Good for Janet! I wonder if it will be translated in other languages. I've never really read any kind of advice book before, so I'm not sure if I'll pick this up. I'm a bit curious though...

The "self-esteem" list is one thing, but the book does not appear on the "Amazon Top 100 Bestseller" list.

In my opinion, that's a huge problem. I mean the book just came out, how in the heck did it disappear from the "Top 100" list so quickly.

Books seldomly sell immediatly fast like cd's (unless you are on Oprah's book club or your name is J.K. Rowling). It slowly gains momentum after word of mouth. I'm in publishing and thank god the first week sales are not a proper way to judge the success of a book. They are hardly ever impressive. Not even the first month sales most of the time. Only after half a year you can start to conclude whether a book has become a success or not.

Is that true for high profile authors and/or celebrities? Established authors seem to hit the list pretty fast and then fade, word of mouth either growing sales or diminishing them.

For celebrities, someone like Bieber hit the NYT list I think in a couple of weeks and if he isn't still on it, he was on it for many weeks.

In my opinion, another reason the book left the Amazon Top 100 list so quickly is because Janet had already discussed those same issues on more than a few occassions in the past. So it's not like there was any NEW information between those pages.

^^ For high profile authors it's different of course, mainly in fiction. The new Grisham/Patterson/Irving will sell lots immediately when it comes out, for them the challenge is to stay in the list and return to it again after they slipped off of it. However with advice/self-help/weight related books the word of mouth really does matter a lot. Books that are out for over two yearsand have had meager sales can sometimes become a bestseller after all. These are the books that have to literally prove their worth, you see. Janet's book is a bit of a hybrid thing, she is a celebrity but has never written a book before and is thus not an established writer and it's also not a autobiography, so people will not run out to get it because they really looked forward for it. In this case I think predominantly the value of the contents about negative self image and not Janet's name will sell the book. (also see the difference in success of Moonwalk vs. Dancing the Dream, both Michael's but one an autobiography and therefore immediately interesting for a huge crowd and one book of poems and reflections, not something Michael was mainly known for by the big public and therefore less interesting to them).

In the end book sales are very unpredictable, but I do know that first week or even first month sales or charting on bestseller's lists are not that important for measuring the overall success of a book (in contrast to cd's for example).

Could be so. But weight struggles seem to be of neverending interest for many people. Have you read it already? Did anyone on here? I want to read some reviews!

Thanks for the insights.

Wish you all the best. I went on Janet's website, she has an excerpt from her book (like recipe, and else)... Good luck.
