Jackson's `This Is It' tops $200 million worldwide

LOS ANGELES – Sony Pictures says "Michael Jackson's This Is It" has passed the $200 million mark at the box office worldwide.

The film has pulled in $61 million domestically and more than $140 million overseas. That includes $27.2 million in Japan, $14.3 million in Great Britain and $12.1 million in Germany.

Sony Pictures marketing and distribution boss Jeff Blake says the film is drawing repeat business worldwide from Jackson fans.

"This Is It" captures Jackson's final performances as he rehearsed for his aborted concert tour. The movie includes Jackson doing such hits as "Beat It," "Thriller," "Human Nature" and "Billie Jean."

Jackson died in June just weeks before his marathon of 50 concerts was to begin in London.

YOu know most of this maybe is going to pay his debt first.

YOu know most of this maybe is going to pay his debt first.

there were tue trusts Horiszontal I and Horizontal II created in December 2007 where all money generated by MJ's share in Sony/ATV was directly send to one of them and mj could not touch the money , the money was used to pay the debt . mj refinanced his loans back then for 350 millions and according to the plan he put with sony and the creditors he would have been able to pay the debt completely in 2011 . I do believe Branca will go by this plan , because there is enough cash to do other things, the estate does not need the profits from sony/atv now . and as for taxes , as exeprt on cnn said mj certainly had a life insurance proceeds to pay for taxes .

someone on cnn said when the Branca came out with his will, they can confirm that there were at least TWO life insurance in mj's names and maybe more , but CNN was aware of at least two insurance policies .
they said they did not know who were the beneficiaries and whether the beneficiaries are able to collect the money without the executors approval .

wow, this doesn't even include thursday figure. after the weekend, i will expect it to surpass Michael Moores documentary (i.e. $225M)

I feel so happy for tii. I will continue to see it over and over again. Even when I see other movies I will buy 2 tii tickets to still help him to get bigger number.

I love him so much and I am sure he is looking down and saying YEAH I AM FINALLY BOX OFFICE HIT, while smiling his cute smile at all us fans for continuing the support.

Even if its my last dollar I will continue to support ALL MJ endeavors.

So good to hear, by early next year his debt would be absolete, if not i am sure allot more revenue would be coming in to get rid of the debt.

:bugeyed $200 million in just 2 weeks for a film of its type?! That's incredible!

Flop, MY ASS!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michael Jackson's concert movie "This Is It" has taken more than $200 million at box offices worldwide in the first two weeks of release, the studio behind the movie said on Thursday.
Sony Pictures Entertainment said the movie had grossed $61 million in North America and more than $140 million internationally. Japan ($27.2 million) and the UK ($14.3 million) were particularly strong markets.
The movie is now the 22nd biggest grossing movie worldwide of 2009, according to industry tracker boxofficemojo.com

"This Is It", distributed by Sony Corp-owned Columbia Pictures, was compiled from footage of Jackson rehearsing for a series of planned comeback concerts before his sudden death in June.
Sony paid concert promoters AEG and Jackson's estate about $60 million for the right to make and distribute the movie.

The $200 million plus gross is almost three times more than 2008's "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" -- a movie some box office watchers had used as a benchmark for "This Is It."

The Jackson film opened on October 28 for a planned two week run but has since been extended until early December.
