jackson5/jacksons accomplishments

That is a wonderful achievement coming from one family. just imagine when such a family get together, they almost own the music industry. they are really the royal family of music.

The KING of Music is MJ, who is the MAIN SUBJECT of this board!! If you like Janet so much better than MJ and the Jackson 5 then go to her board!!

Right...

and why are you red herring? Because you stand corrected.

Good day! :)

Nobody knows how much the J5 sold except maybe Berry Gordy and his bookkeepers during the early 70s. Motown never reported how much any of their acts records sold to the RIAA during the 1960s to the early 80s. So all of that information above is bogus.

Except that people continued to buy j5 stuff down the years. People like me who was new fan after the bashire docu went out and bought All j5 stuff I could get my hands on, so Gordy may have no idea how much is being sold.

Why would he care? He sold the company around 1988. Although since Gordy still owns some of the publishing for Jobete and was also part of "The Corporation" who wrote for the J5, I would assume he makes money from sales today.

they were also the first african american act to tour australia
Really> I know joe wrote in his book that against all advice from the dignitaries down under, he flewwith his children into the bush to meet the Aborigines people who greeted them like heroes.:D

First African American family in history to have their own TV series (The Jacksons tv Show on CBS).
The Jacksons' Triumph Tour was described by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the best 25 tours from 1967 to 1987.
The Jacksons' Victory tour grossed $175 million and set a new record for the then-largest grossing tour in 1984.
One of the most influential r'n'b groups ever.

The Victory mainly sold out due to Michael, it was right after Thriller anyone who thinks otherwise is living in denial.

What happened after the Victory tour, Michael went his separate way and the brothers just stopped performing altogether?

Oh one more thing. Did the remaining J5 members work on solo projects during the J5 days or after Michael was gone?

Can you people just give it a rest with your negativity/ how would you like it if people were running down YOUR family like you do the Jacksons. or is it acase that you have no family to give or get love from gese. carry on like this and this board will end up with just bitter and resentful people and a very unpleasant place to be.

All of them except Tito tried to their luck on a solo career, Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine and even Randy. But luck and success lacked. I'm not sure if they performed together or not, from what I have heard they didn't, but I don't know. I at least hope they tried to perform together instead of waiting a quarter century for Michael to come back.

Edit: 2300 Jackson Jackson Street was released but they didn't perform anymore.

Marlon released a solo album "Baby Tonight" in 1987. Jackie had a solo record out around 1987 or 88. Jermaine released 13 albums up to 1991. The brothers (without Mike & Marlon) released an album 2300 Jackson Street in 1989. Randy created a group 'Randy and the Gypsies' and released an album, also in 1989. After 1991, there have been no releases (excluding compilations) from any of the brothers except 2 from Mike. During the J5 days, Michael & Jermaine released solo albums, although on some of the songs, the other brothers can be heard. Motown also briefly released a solo album from Jackie. Tito recorded an instrumental album at Motown that has never been released.

Thanks to Twinklee and DuranDuran. I had no idea about some of that stuff.

It's a shame the brothers didn't move forward without Michael, they certainly had a foundation which they could have built upon.

jermaine played a major part in launching whitney houston's career, as well as Stephney mills and the De barge family. jackie jackson is a brilliant song writer and has been doing his own thing with his son.
marlon launched a tv station which was taken over by his partners, he is now working in Africa now establishing a resort to mark the route that the slaves too. I believe Mj wanted to do a project in Africa roo but he didn't manage to do it.
the brothers have been doing other things like raising their families and having time for themselves. there is nothing wrong with that.

they did move forward. they all raised beautiful families and lived a private life away from the limelight which was what they wanted to do.

judging by duran's post i'd say they wanted the spotlight :p

maybe, mabe not. they grew up in the spotlight, remember. people who grow up in the spotlight tend to respond to it differently from those who find it as adults. all the jackson children were celebrities from childhood so there was no need for them to seek the spotlight. as if it ever left them.

You're welcome :)
I agree, they did have a foundation to build upon, I wish they had done something back then, but I guess they wanted big monies, huge success, big arena's etc. Something that was impossible for them to achieve without Mike.
