-First four #1 hit by a major artist/band.
-I think they sold around 150 million (I'm not entirely sure) records.
-They performed for the Queen of England in 1974.
-They were one of the first African American teen idols.
They did NOT sell 150 million records.
They did NOT sell 150 million records.
They sold 100 million albums worldwide!
really i check a&e website and it said 250 million?
I read it off of Wikipedia, but maybe i'm wrong..I think that all of those album sales on there are exaggerated anyway..really i check a&e website and it said 250 million?
They influenced the Osmonds to change from a barbershop quartet style group to a R&B/pop band. :tease:
The Osmonds were set up as rivals to the Jacksons and the media encouraged a black v white rivalry that reached into the school yards. this was where the media statrted to attack the Jackson and glorify the Osmonds. Every song the Osmonds sang went to number one while the Jacksons could hardly get any airplay at all, esp overseas. All the while the kids were good friends having sleepovers at each others houses.I heard of that on an Osmond documentary, because "Rolling Stone" and other music mags in the 1970s panned the Osmonds as white J5 copycats. Even though I don't think they are.
The older Osmond brothers were out in the public way before the J5 signed with Motown. But they were performing a different style of music and were appearing on shows like Andy Williams and other "easy listening" type programs. There was also another black group before the J5 called variously The 5 Stairsteps or The Stairsteps with Cubie, but they didn't catch on that big and is mainly known for "Ooh Child". They were more like a youth version of Sly and the Family Stone though. After the J5, other groups like The Sylvers, The Jackson Sisters, and Sister Sledge appeared. The Sylvers never really crossed over and Sister Sledge didn't become big until they became adults. There was also another white group called The DiFranco Family, but the Jackson 5 and The Osmonds were the biggest of the teen groups. Unless you count The Partridge Family and The Brady Kids, lol.The Osmonds were set up as rivals to the Jacksons and the media encouraged a black v white rivalry that reached into the school yards.
That is completely fabricated. They sold 100 million records. I don't know how many albums they sold though.
You do know your statistics are just as fabricated right? ]At one of the interviews I heard the only band more successful than them is the beatles! NO i don't believe that but I also know a 150 million unit sale is not that far from reality.
What statistics are you talking about?
Well, it is. But if it makes you feel better, you can keep believing it.
Wikipedia said that both the Jackson 5 and Janet sold 100 Million albums each..
no need to take a sarcastic tone, I was serious, where did you get your info because as far as I know Motown never released any info on their sales. Everything is an estimation so far. Again, that's as far as I know.
Janet has sold about 80 million albums, not 100 million. The Jacksons/J5 sold about 50 million albums worldwide.
Well If you add albums and singles, they are at 100 million each..no need to discredit the Jackson 5!!
I'm not discrediting the J5  Facts are facts.
albums + singles = records.
That's what I said..if you add the albums and the singles then you get 100 million worldwide..I see you LOVE Janet and she is your favorite artist, but the Jackson 5 have sold as much as she has..combining albums and singles..
This has nothing to do with my admiration for Janet. I'm telling you actual statistics on both. Janet has sold 135 million records and the Jackson's/J5 is sold 107 million WW. Meaning that they (J5) haven't sold as much as her combining albums, singles and even including other units (videos, DVDS).
Now youre changing the numbers saying that Janet has sold more..so yeah it has a lot to do with your admiration for Janet..they both sold the same amount of records according to numerous sources..
WRONG..they BOTH sold 100 millon records WW according to many sources!!But if you wanna put your fave, Janet, ahead then so be it!Can you read? I didn't change the numbers. If you read the Janet accomplishments thread (In which you responded in) then you would know what I'm talking about. Both didn't sell the same amount of records. Both are estimated at more than 100 million records. Janet at 135 and the Jackson's at 107 million records.
You'll get over it
