Well a gift shop is not going to build up the area. You are giving them something that makes them spend money and not generate money. Think about it, the shop will get some sales on the anniversary if many fans visit, but what happens for the other 364 days in the year. Are the locals going to be buying trinkets regularly? It is not like food that is a necessity. Maybe they will sell some school supplies there so the kids can get their pencils/pens/paper.

I am glad they want to help the town and I hope that is their main interest. Maybe they should just say they are opening a gift shop. However, they tie it to helping the town, which does not make much economic sense to me.

Truedat! I've never been to Gary, but know it's a stone's throw from Chicago (where I've been quite a few times, being a Bears fan). Many states/cities in the Midwest took a huge hit economically when our auto industry tanked, but things are slowly turning around. Gary has to re-invent itself beyond just relying on being the hometown of Michael Jackson.

Since you purchase the merchandise online, and no money exchanged, probably no one will actually work in the shop and will only be there if you've made arrangements to visit and pick up something in advance.
To me, it sounds like they are just trying to fix the immediate area-like that immediate little neighborhood and also donate to the school. Keep the lawns mowed and the houses painted maybe-which would fit in with this other project with 4 homes. Doesn't one of the relatives live in the house next door or across the street-so maybe that's the gift shop.
I know the little Jackson house looks beautiful in the last couple of years, so now the rest of the little neighborhood will. It will help the tourists, I think.

They could just store the things in a warehouse and ship it to customers from there. They still need someone to do the shipping so the shop has to have a human in it, unless they use a robot that can do all the work.

Well we will see how this pans out. Soon we will find out what objects are being sold in the shop.
 
Sorry. I meant full time. The cousin who lives there could be there when people come.
That's just what I got from it. They said no money in the shop and you order online. It's some kind of drop off shop. Just figured from that article it wouldn't really be for walk in customers.
I've read before that the area is really run down except for the Jackson house so the fix up will benefit the tourist trade a bit.

1 thing is sure, she ain't paying rent from her allowance, and I don't see other family member even thinking of chipping in because Michael's estate is bottomless what comes to money.
 
there is zero possibility the intention is to raise money for Gary. Someone probably offered Katherine a cheque to get her support for his business. That's it.

Regarding Alejandra, her kids are always ALWAYS around MJ's kids , so who is paying for their travel expenses from Miami to LA ? The kids are hardly alone these days , especially after their allowances increased.

Look like this will be done by Gary and some outside help too This will be very nice to see because when you come to visit Michael home a lot of empty lots a lot of broad up house this will be very refresh to see. And i hope their continue to keep building in Gary.
 
I really want to see what will be in this gift shop it right by the house i will see when i get there.

I am like you Petrarose. A gift shop is where you buy gifts right there in the shop. Where did this online come from. I will check this out when i go to Gary.
 
Gift shop pickup site near Jackson home to open in August

GARY | A merchandise pickup site next to Michael Jackson's childhood home is set to open the weekend of what would have been the pop star's 56th birthday.

The property at 2306 Jackson St., nearly connected to the Jackson family's home at 2300 Jackson St., will serve as a location for customers to pick up merchandise bought online, said Sharon Chambers, a local member of a committee organizing festivities for Jackson's birthday weekend.

"It's not just a store where you walk in off the street," she said. "You can make an appointment to come in to pick up items."

Items will include affordable pieces, such as T-shirts, but the website also will sell items that belonged to the pop star, such as belts, and paintings he made.

"They're his items," Chambers said.

The website for the online gift shop is awaiting finishing touches and is not yet live, she said.

The website and merchandise pickup location are just the start. Jackson's popularity could support a larger, more traditional gift shop, Chambers said.

Jackson was born Aug. 29, 1958, and spent his childhood in the modest white home, where he practiced singing and dancing with his siblings as they grew to fame as the Jackson 5.

He died June 25, 2009.

The Gary home where he was raised is a popular location for memorial tributes, with increased foot traffic around the anniversaries of his birthday and the day he died.

The festivities the weekend of Aug. 29 will be part of a program hosted by his mother, Katherine Jackson.

"It's, 'Katherine Jackson presents a tribute to Michael Jackson,'" Chambers said.

Almost all of the Jackson family members are expected to attend, including the late pop star's mother and children.

Festivities will include a high school band medley tribute to Michael Jackson's music, as well as a Michael Jackson impersonator contest, vendors, food booths, exotic petting zoo, stage performances, antique classic car show and maybe a candle light vigil, Chambers said.

I wonder if the belts are the ones that Joe and Katherine stoke a deal right after MJ;s death and they made PPB to sign those belts

Hopefully kids have a summer holiday and are not spending their time signing belts in Jackson sweatshop.

I wonder if the paintings are the ones that he did his time with Brett-Livingstone Strong, which are stored in the airport hangar in Santa Monica. It is not clear yet that Brett-Livingstone Strong legally owns them as Tohme gifted them away on MJ's name. The estate is still after them. In Piers M show Brett L-S said that "I own" then paused and pointed to KJ and said "WE own 98 pieces".

I just pray and hope that I don't see PPB holding those belts or signing off their dad's paintings if they going to Gary.
 
^^The first thing I thought when I saw "painting" was who really own those. We have the mix up with Brett. Then, we have this case with Thome which I guess will show if he really had authority to give that letter to Brett about ownership. Is this another underhand way to sell off those paintings and pocket the money for Brett and his other co-owner. I expect Michael painted some things he left in the LA house with Katherine. Are we talking about those paintings or the collection Brett claimed was given to him?

So basically people buy some products on the website then go to Gary and pick them up in the shop? I expect the people who live in other states or countries have the products shipped to them from the shop. Well we will see.

I like the antique car activity. I hope someone takes pictures of the cars so I can look at them.
 
Seemingly it looks like Paris has been brought back to family fold as photos of her are all over the TMZ.
I find her appearance a little bit too convenient to Gary thingy as the article above says KJ and PPB are expected to appear.

I hope I'm wrong, but if I see Paris in Gary tribute thingy, then it is clear who leaked to TMZ that Paris is back in town and we then know why she is back.

^^I am really interested in seeing what could be in the shop that they could legitimately sell. I hope they have school supplies that is J5 minus Michael related. We will soon find out on his birthday what is in the pick up shop.
 
Maybe they could sell prints (copies) of MJ's paintings. But NOT the real ones,they should go to PPB.

I wonder? That website is full of images of MJ, and if it was someone else, the estate would have already slapped with cease and desist letter.

I think copyright to anything MJ created (including drawings and paintings) remains with the Estate (same as for lyrics / music etc)
 
I really wish someone in the authorities or Michael lawyers will stop them from making such a bad thing like that!
They will do it just for money and not to commemorate Michael...SHAME ON YOU!!!

The best thing that happened to that law firm was getting Katherine as a client. Of course we see the family members there; but those other people, do you know of their history in relation to Katherine in other projects?

KES music group and Rych Kydd are both new entities, don't know anything they business deals other than if you go KES website, you'll see the advertising Latoya's new single.

Knowing KJ history trying to make deals behind estate's back selling right to use Michael's image and likeness, I believe we'll be hearing them later. Either the estate ends up suing them for using MJ's image and likeness, or they end up suing KJ for false pretence or something:D

I find Deborah Chang being member of this committee more than interesting. Why would KJ's AEG trial attorney get involved with this?

Because that lawfirm is milking it. There know a good deal when they see it, and individuals there are used and are involved in many aspects involving Katherine and the children. the kids don't even have their own attorney, because Katherine's attorney speaks for them. The same attorneys also had one of her sons as clients as we say in the trial.

So now they or their affiliates work with her on the estate transactions; work with her on the trial; engage in business with her; comingle the children's and her interests together so Katherine's interests supersedes the children's interests, because we all know the kids did not ask for a case against AGE. The question is when they represented Katherine and her son, does Katherine put both bills together and have the estate pay for it.

You say KES work with LaToya, so I guess Katherine likes to use the same people family members use, so that these people get a cut in profits, fees, transactions. Then again, you are starting something new, so why do you go and use 2 new entities that do not have a foundation and successful track record in committees like that? Oh well not a lot of money will come from this anyway; it will be like her flower arrangement business that she started after Michael's death.
