MJ hid a lot from his family he didn't have to let them know about his secret family because of his protection of them and privacy some times when u want to escape ( i mean get away from those would would often nag you and judge you. You find comfort with the outsiders(friends) more then your own family. So of course Jackie/jacksons had to find out after his death about their brother's privacy life.
the family travelled the world with him and were involved in the trial. they werent secret in any shape or form just wording used by the pervert oprah.i find it strange that htye were know to the fanbase since the early 90s yet his fmaily were clueless. either misquote or the just another example of the family knowing nothing about mj

LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson always knew how to stir the pot.

Almost 18 months after the artist's death, fans have been speculating about the meaning behind the painting reprinted on the cover of Michael, Jackson's posthumous album out today. Jackson's brother Jackie and the artist, Kadir Nelson, shared the story behind the CD cover in an exclusive interview.

In 2003, while recording the song One More Chance, Jackson spotted a tribute painting of Marvin Gaye's life in Gaye's studio. The King of Pop immediately dialed Nelson. "He said, 'I want one about me, but I want it to be bigger,' " Nelson says. "He was always like that," Jackie adds with a grin. "He wanted things big."

But with Jackson's legal troubles mounting at the time, "it fell through the cracks," Nelson says.

Two weeks after Jackson's death in June 2009, the 9-by-41/2-foot painting was recommissioned by his estate. In the painting, a portion of which is reproduced on the CD jacket and will appear in promotional posters, trivia-savvy fans will spot a spaceship, harking back to Jackson's 1982 E.T. collaboration, and a floating golden gavel, a nod to his courtroom drama.

Jackson's children, Paris, Prince and "Blanket," appear in the painting multiple times. In one scene, they sit alongside Michael, his hand gripping a supersized water gun. Jackie says water guns were — and remain — a family favorite. "They've always got water guns down (at Hayvenhurst, the Jackson family home in Encino)," Jackie says, chuckling. "You have to be careful — they don't care what you're wearing."

Nelson painted a host of Jackson's famous friends into the piece, but audiences will never see Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna, Oprah Winfrey and Debbie Rowe in reproductions. Nelson and Jackie say those famous folks withheld copyright permission and will be left out of released artwork. The most surprising refusal, Jackie says, was Taylor's. "All the things he's done for Liz Taylor," he murmurs, shaking his head. Who can be spotted in posters? Friends such as Naomi Campbell, Tatum O'Neal and ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley.

There are 50 representations of the pop star in the supersized painting to commemorate the years he lived. "I had to count every day to make sure I was right on," says Nelson, who included a crowned goldfish trapped inside a bubble in his final tally. "Michael was so popular, he lived (like a fish) in a bubble."

For the dominant image of Jackson in the painting, Nelson focused on the idea of royalty, putting Michael in a suit of armor with his hand placed over his heart, "because Michael put his heart into everything that he did," Nelson says.

Jackie gestures to a tiny Volkswagen in the painting that reminds him of the early years. "The bus," he says, remembering how "freezing, going to Chicago in the cold and the snow," they were back then, "taking instruments out of that bus and slipping on the ice."

Today, he says, the family is still healing from Michael's death: "It's something you never get over. "

Just wanted to say that perhaps Jackie may not understand that Liz is a VERY private individual, and if she chose not to be a part of this or allow her image to be reprinted it was personal choice and that is NOT reflective of how that person felt/feels about Michael. I love and respect Jackie, he's one of the few Jacksons I actually do. If he really said this, then I think he may need to put himself in Liz's shoes for a moment especially if he doesn't know her reasons behind it. Jackie comes across as being very genuine and I know he's coming from a pure place.

Also, last time I checked Tatum O'Neal is as much a friend to Michael as Lisa Marie is his widow. That line from the article ticked me off. Niether of them deserve to be featured in anything Michael related, just mho, not with the way BOTH treated and acted and spoke about him while he was here. I also don't need to hear the BS line, "She was angry, etc..." I don't give a rats ass, there is NO excuse to how these two women and EVERYONE ELSE for that matter treated him like dirt and kicked him multiple times while he was down! THERE IS NO EXCUSE! Not trying to get O/T but finding out that they were images a part of a MICHAEL project...yeah it ticked me off. I just had to vent a bit.

Madonna and Oprah.. oh really? Gimme a break

I support the album, but I have to say. The art is horrible. I hated that painting.

there's a lot of folks that shouldn't be in that drawing

That guy at the end...saying Michael was wierd:mat:
And Brian Oxhole doesn't have a damn clue.

The family were probably oblivious to the fact that Michael was unhappy during his childhood.............

Is that debbie when shw was young in that pic with mj?

I think Jackie was misquoted, he probably said something like "I don't (personally) know the Cascios" and the press translated this as "I've never heard of the Cascios". I can believe he didn't really know the Cascios, I mean I don't know all the people my siblings hang out with even though we're really close. But the Jackson family must have heard about them. Anyway, Jackie is one of the few Jackson family members I still love and I'm glad to know he does support the album :)

As for that guy in the video piece, to him I say go get a life! obviously has no idea what real talent is!

As for Jackie's comment about Liz, my take is she probably like others is not in agreement with this project hence her withholding the rights to her image. But why in the world would they want to include Oprah Winfrey is beyond me! people need to do their homework!

maybe because it was when MJ told the world he had vitiligo

I Think it's odd Jackie say's he doen't know the Cascio's because a quote from the family was in the memorial program that was on television and stated from the first family of love and Dominic Cascio. unless he didn't read the program with all the family quotes about Michael after his death.

it's funny how close they want to pretend they were to mike. he's met the family, i dont' think he realizes that people grow up. so many are suprised when i tell them that oh gee, when u saw mike w/ boys they were either the cascios or his cousins and now they're men and this is what they look like now. they're shocked. yes jackie, not everyone stays young and fit like u.

heknows damn well who they were. but it's sad, they sat all the way in the back during the memorial. hella sad

that is sad considering they were closer to Mike than Mike's own family.

Were you shocked as we were on Dec. 6 when Oprah revealed the Cascios, the super-secret family Michael Jackson visited for 25 years in New Jersey?

So was his brother Jackie Jackson.

"I didn't know them," Jackie tells USA TODAY's Andrea Mandell, his soft voice stiffening.

He'd never heard of them? "Nope."

Man, no offense, but why do the Jackson's ALWAYS act like they just fell off of a "turnip truck." LOL!

They have absolutely NO savvy when it comes to speaking to the press. I mean, I ain't family, just a long time fan, but I'm familiar with FRANK CACISO and know that he has worked for Michael for many years. You mean to tell me that in 25+ years Jackie has never met Frank, has never crossed paths with Frank. Never crossed paths with Frank's siblings while visiting Neverland?

Oh and that "comment" he made regarding Elizabeth Taylor not wanting to be on the "Michael" mural, was totally unnecessary in my opinion. You notice he didn't say anything about big mouth Oprah.

u know what u are right ,i didn't notice about hoprah.

He talked about Michael and the snow, too, you know. Mostly about anything else nobody talks chooses to talk about. He didn't attack the album. Oprah, as far as I know, wasn't featured on the current cover, and he meant no harm in him pointing out Liz is not there. Michael and Liz had been public friends, too, have attended many public events, so it was only natural to feature her, say, instead of the likes of Tatum O'Neal.

The thread's title is very tabloidish and induces negative criticism, when the interview focused on totally different topics.

Yeah, just like Jackie's comment.

Sorry, but his comment was CHILDISH and unnecessary, in my opinion.

I expected better from him!

Aside from that fact, like everything else in Michael's life, Jackie "probably" has no idea what went on in the relationship that Elizabeth and Michael shared.

No harm? u dony really believe that do u ?

Yeah, I do, for the reasons mentioned.

I'm also choosing to look at the bigger picture in this respect, when it comes to Jackie. He's a kind soul, and that's that. Instead of picking apart every single aspect of anything, that's unhealthy.

the sole fact that he chose to comment on her ''after everything he has done for her'' makes it obvious that he did mean to criticize her, wonder why he left Oprah out,

As for the rest of what u wrote, good for you, u stick to whatever ur belief is and we/I will stick to mine. I could care less about it being unhealthy.

No offence.......but Michael's real family know nothing about Michael!!!!!!!

I agree.. I have yet to hear his family defend him. They say he took 'drugs' but they never reveal any illnesses or anything. It's like they just don't care about anything. Has Katherine look in the mirror lately and asked herself why her son hated his nose? has she asked herself why was her son taking 'drugs'? what kind of pain he was in, his emotional scars? did anyone try to get MJ any kind of professional help? It just boggles my mind how MJ could have so many family members yet none of them knew anything about him.

Like I said, if I knew my brother/son was struggling or depressed I would do everything in my power to help him. What did the family do?

So he never bought an MJ album nor read the thank you's?? This family is pathetic
