IJCSLY Single with "Don't Be Messin' Round" bonus track [Discussion]

when u ordering on waltmart, you will get the US edition. walmart is the us record store.
it doesnt matter what WOWHD side u visit, in the description is always Australia written.
and that is why i asked if someone know if its really the australian edition they are selling.
i want to buy it from the german WOWHD website. but I'm not sure if its REAL.

so, do you know?

According to Billboard IJCSLY entered the Billboard 'Hot Singles Sales Chart' at #1 with sales of 5000 copies.
This chart counts physical (e.g. CD) singles only.

To put that into perspective the No1 single on the digital songs chart was Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" which sold 284,000 copies (down 6% from the previous week).

Still...with no radio play and promotion....it's still good.

thousands of people walked to a walmart to buy their CDs, and many times they were told it was out of stock.

I don't understand why the single is available only in CD format. Nowadays, people can buy songs, movies, TV episdoes, books with one click. I found myself buying many more songs digitally because it's just so easy and costs so little. One click and the song is synced to all my devices. Oh well... I have iPhone and iPad, so I have more incentive to buy stuff from iTunes. I bought the CD. But, the thought of turning on my PC, downloading the songs to my iTunes library and sync it to my devices seemed tedious. CD singles are about to extinct. I'm not complaining. May be the Estate and Sony are targeting to hard core fan base. It's just that there is no way the this IJCSLY re-release can get any wide audience if it's available on in CD format. People's music buying habit drastically changed after iTunes.

My guess is that in order for Walmart to even agree to sell the CD single, the estate had to agree to not sell it online. Walmart probably wouldn't be interested in selling a CD single of a 25 year old song if you could download the 2nd track from the single.(The track that most people are probably buying it for)

This was a release only for the fans. It is not so normal to buy a 25year old song also for people who appreciate MJ-music because they have probably a best-off-cd which also included this song. And the release of the demo is also fan-related.
So the physical Cd is a gift for the fans and something for their collection. So the only physical release makes sense and is a good move to start the Bad25-procect with entering the Billboard-Chart Hot Singles Chart on No.1.

I think it would be nice if they could play the song on the radio. Some songs get played so much in one day that it would be nice to hear a classic song sometimes.

A digital download is just a piece of music. A CD single is a piece of history.

I like that way of looking at it...I was too young to buy the original singles when they were released back in the day, so this is a way for me (and others) to experience it...I bought it on vinyl as well, even though I don't have a record player :)

CD, like cassette, is a storage medium. I guess a cassette single is history as well. Now, I don't even have a player to play my cassette collection. Like cassette singles, CD singles are becoming obsolete.

Don't get me wrong. I bought the CD myself. I'm just saying that people don't buy physical single CD's. Downloading is the prevalent way. With cloud technology, music will be stored "virtually" in the future.

It really should have been both CD and digital....I totally understand what you're saying :)

From The Estate

Thanks to you, the fans, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Singles Sales Chart in a top five that includes Carly Ray Jepsen, Calvin Harris, Justin Bieber and Coldplay/Rihanna! This chart ranks the best-selling physically-released singles of the week. The CD single was released last week exclusively at Walmart as part of the promotions leading up to the 25th anniversary reissue of Jackson's 1987 "Bad" album. I don't understand why the single is available only in CD format...
It's because they know this song will not be played on main stream radio in high rotation and so cannot chart on the proper singles chart. If released as a formal digial single nobody will buy it because they have no reason to - people already own it on the multitude of greatest hits packages released over the years. Because they have chosen to re-release the original single their options to claim success are limited. By making it available in physical formats only they can try to make them 'collectible' by putting numbers on them to appeal to fans AND because sales of physical formats are so low they can claim to have a #1 single (even though the chart they refer to is irrelevant in today's music market). It's marketing pure and simple. People who don't know much about charts will see "#1 single!" and be impressed. As you may have seen from my previous posts I'm not. (I promise to stop moaning about it now)

Great news.

And can't wait to check out MJ.com tomorrow. - Maybe it will be the all new BAD25 page?

[h=3]MICHAEL JACKSON'S BAD 25 ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION ALREADY HAS ITS FIRST #1 SINGLE[/h] "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" / "Don't Be Messin' 'Round (demo)" CD Single Debuts at #1 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales Chart

New York, NY - On June 5, the original first single from Michael Jackson's landmark album BAD, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," was re-released as a CD Single with a never-before released bonus track called "Don't Be Messin' 'Round (demo)." In its first week this Wal-Mart exclusive CD single was scooped up by fans, giving Michael a #1 debut on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart in a top five that includes Carly Rae Jepsen, Calvin Harris, Justin Bieber and Coldplay/Rihanna.

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" was written and composed by Michael Jackson and performed as a duet with Siedah Garrett. The song became the first of five consecutive number-one Billboard Hot 100 hits from Jackson's BAD album. It also reached number one on the Billboard R&B and adult contemporary charts. "Don't Be Messin' Around" is a previously unreleased demo from the singer's vaults which was recorded during the BAD sessions.

On September 18th, the Estate of Michael Jackson along with Epic/Legacy Recordings will release BAD 25, which includes three CDs, two collectible booklets, and features the first-ever authorized DVD release of a concert from the record breaking BAD tour, the concert at Wembley Stadium on July 16, 1988 attended by Princess Diana, Prince Charles and a sold-out crowd of 72,000 fans.

More details on this and other exciting projects relating to BAD's 25th anniversary will be announced soon. Get updated first by signing up for the official MJ Newsletter.

I posted this on the billboard thread not sure where it should go, so I have added it here too, I hope this is not a problem.

Hi,

I have just joined the MJ community to enjoy the Bad 25 celebrations and wanted to point out a potential problem with the IJCSLY single.

The Right channel appears to be wobbly and distorted. If you compare it to any other copy, this has got a wobble like you get when you listen to an old cassette or an old walkman with the headphones not fully plugged in. Perhaps this occurred when dubbed to this particular single but concerning nonetheless

Could someone please contact the estate to check the version on the new album will not have the same problem.

Apologies for being a bearer of bad news on my first post but I wanted to try and correct this before the main event in the Autumn.

Regards David

Roger Friedman "attacks" again:

Michael Jackson: Epic Botching of Great Unreleased Single from “Bad” Album

Today is the third anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson. (Also the the third anniversary of Farrah Fawcett’s passing, FYI.) Epic Records cannot get Michael’s posthumous recordings out properly. Way back I told you that Michael’s longtime engineer Bruce Swedien had one extra track from “Bad”–the same one the late Frank DiLeo remembered as being outstanding. It was called “Don’t Be Messin’ Around.” I wrote about it here: http://www.showbiz411.com/2009/07/02/20090702book-michael-jackson-in-the-studio-bruce-swedie.

So it turns out that three weeks ago, on June 5th, Epic released “Don’t Be Messin’ Around” as the B side of the reissued “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” the original single from the “Bad” album.I spoke to Bruce a few minutes ago. He says the track is NOT a demo, it’s the finished track. “Michael didn’t make demos. He played piano on that track. That’s the record.” Sony did not consult Swedien about the track. They did send Spike Lee down to interview him for a video they’re doing on the “Bad’ 25th anniversary release set for…September. But for now, no publicity.

What??? After all the fighting about the Cascio tracks from the “Michael” album, here was the one track everyone agreed was really Michael, was really from classic sessions, and could have been trumpeted into a big deal. Not only has there been ZERO publicity, but also you can only buy the single at Wal-Mart, and only physically. Not digitally. In 2012. I can’t imagine why Sony/Epic/Legacy and the Michael Jackson estate was unable to do this right. It’s like everything else with Michael Jackson’s post-death recordings. And to think Sony said it made a deal for $200 million. They’re not going to earn it back this way!

Huh? Is he really telling us that the DBMR version we got isn't a demo? I don't get it, cause it doesn't seem make sense.
