Has Taylor Swift ever talked about Michael?

I'm a huge fan of both Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift.

I don't think Taylor mentions Michael much (aside from the clip above), but she is a huge Janet Jackson stan and considers her as one of her musical heroes. When I saw Taylor in concert this year, "All For You" was played before she went on. I'm sure she hand picked that because she's mentioned in interviews that it's one of her favorite Janet songs.

I don't think it's right to compare them as singers. Taylor is not a vocalist (although her voice is not bad); she's a singer songwriter who plays the guitar and piano, and sings the songs that she writes. Michael played instruments, but not well enough to play them in concert; his main instrument was his voice. It's like comparing Prince to Michael Jackson almost, because Prince was a musician who could play 27 musical instruments extremely well, but couldn't sing like Michael, either. Michael had a voice where he could sing anything and be admired as a vocalist first.

It's also unfair to compare Taylor and Michael as dancers. Michael had a gift at dancing, and could have made a career in dance outside of being a musician. Taylor Swift is a singer songwriter first, and dancer second (and even on her best days, she can't dance like Michael because practically no one can.)

I actually think Taylor could be better compared to Joni Mitchell, who was known as a singer songwriter. If Taylor Swift hadn't been marketed as a pop star who dances and puts on huge stage shows. I do think she is the biggest musician in the world right now, though.
I totally agree with you here. Even though we love them, they still do have their strengths that the other may or may not have. And you are right it does feel like unnatural to compare Taylor with Michael. (I know I just summarized your essay into two sentences lol but I couldn't agree with you more) :)

YOU ARE SO LUCKY
It was amazing; I never saw MJ in concert, but it was up to that level of showmanship. It was also my first (and only) time seeing her live. I'm sorry that you couldn't get tickets. :( Taylor tours every two years, though, so I'm sure she'll tour again for her next album.

Yeah, they're both pop musicians but their pop music is very different. It's not a good comparison. I do think that Taylor Swift has cemented her legacy in music, though, and 100 years from now, she'll be mentioned alongside MJ in terms of musicianship and popularity. But that's the only similarity that they have.

Taylor would be wise to following MJ’s lead and take a long break. Taylor is great but we have seen more than enough of her for a while. MJ waited 5 year’s between eras for a reason.
i couldn't agree more she's getting stale and overexposed

Depends what her creative process was and if it's interesting enough. If her music videos are ambitious enough to talk about. And what categories of hall of fame she ends in.

It will be interesting to see what her legacy is…she is definitely popular to a certain generation. With all her success and popularity she still lacks anything that compares to a Billie Jean or Beat it mega hit. And she can’t dance lol
