Formule 1

Yeeaaah! Trulli and Kovalainen, two guys I wanna see on track! Yeah! I'm already fan of Lotus. :D

From Kimi's interview with Autosport:

"I could have signed with them [McLaren] if I'd wanted to do, but in the end it wasn't 100 per cent what I wanted. It was not really so much about money; it was all the other things. It's not that I couldn't have gone there but, like I said, I have no reason to do something with a contract that I'm not happy with."

"Probably I could have gone there [Brawn]. I didn't want to start waiting for a long time. For sure we could have got a contract in the end, but when the McLaren thing didn't happen I already had the talks with Red Bull, so I just wanted to go there and see what happens in rallying. Maybe I'll come back [to F1] next year or the year after. Or maybe not..."

...

And according to di Montezemolo it's a "very, very, very strong possibility" that Schumi drives on Mercedes next year...

Michael Schumacher signed a 1-year-contract (confirmed)!! :clapping:

source: German press

I do not like Mercedes! though I do like the work of Mr. Brawn! and I absolutely love Michael as a driver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait to see what will come out there!!!!

^ I have to admit I almost can't wait either! The season just got a lot more interesting imo. Though I would still like to see Kimi there.. :(

Schumacher's contract is three years long! Or I've heard that. Don't know.

But now F1 is more interesting that it would be without Schumi! :)

Oh yeah. I'll be gone for rest of this week but keep on posting here. :D

F1 can't get any worse for me. I wanna :puke:

For me it's disgusting.

As I promised, if Schumi would be back that would be another reason why I won't watch it. So, this is it.

F1 is dead for me. The sport I loved so much doesn't exist for me anymore. It's not a sport IMO. I so agree with Kimi, the one thing he loved about it was the driving and only the driving, he did the best thing, he escaped from this awful, disgusting, greedy word. He was too good for it and I so can imagine that he couldn't breathe in the paddock.

Heikki said some interesting things in Autosport interview:

" Kovalainen also wants this season to show that the reputation McLaren labelled him with last season - of being a good qualifier but not up to it in races - is wrong.
When asked if he agreed with the team's verdict, he said: "No. I think I know the reasons why the races were not good enough - nearly 100 per cent, perhaps 95 per cent. But I don't want to get into it that much.
"I've never felt that my race pace has been a particular problem. In the past it has been, in fact, one of the stronger areas.
"In fact, if anything, I would have thought the qualifying in GP2, and when I was testing in the first year with Renault, I felt that qualifying was something I could do better - that I could get more out of the new tyres. But the races were always where I was improving positions and going forwards, so I didn't think it was an area where it needed particular attention.
"I think it might have looked like that from the outside, but I know what was going on and what the reasons were. That is all I need to know."

Good luck indeed to McLaren with their two latinos..

:wild: OMG!!!!!! Hanna!!! Have you seen this interview before?!?!! Kimi is too cute!!!!! But, who is this kid next to him?

Could you do me a favour, please? Could you tell me what they're talking about? I'm bloody curious! :cheeky: Thank you so much in advance! :)

^ I haven't seen that one before, I will try translate it to you tomorrow, ok? (or I don't mind Evilman doing it either if he has time? :D )

Q&A with Heikki, if someone's interested
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2010/1/10332.html

Q: Have people underestimated your talents as a driver?
HK:
I don't think people have seen the best of me yet, and I don't think I got the best out of McLaren. My aim at Lotus is to get the best out of the team and the car, and I don't see any reason why the results won't come. I don't think there are any areas I particularly need to improve. Some people think I'm a good qualifier, and not such a good racer, but that's only been while I was at McLaren. If you look at my time at Renault in 2007 the race performances were actually very strong, and I felt I got more out of the Renault than I did the McLaren. I don't really care what people think - I'm more determined than ever to do a good job for the team.
I sooo wish all the best of luck to Heikki for this season. He really deserves a good one.

I'm too busy to translate that now. Sorry. :(

I think Hamilton is the reason why Kovalainen didn't do so well in McLaren. I really hope next season Kovalainen gets good shot with his Lotus. I believe they have very talented engineers there at Lotus. At least they have won so many titles before they retired. ;)

^ I haven't seen that one before, I will try translate it to you tomorrow, ok? (or I don't mind Evilman doing it either if he has time? :D )

Thank you in advance!!! :) I won't be around tomorrow and all the weekend but I'll be happy to read it on Monday! :)

Actually I did have time to do it now :D Short translation:

(so it's from 2000, the little boy is called Santtu, he's a karting driver and the woman just asks him some random questions like what he knows about the car ("it goes fast" aww :D) and so on)

Q. When did you know F1 will be your career?
A. Only last year actually

Q. What are the options if you don't get the place at Sauber?
A. Test driver's place, or F3 in England.

Q. Do you think you're ready for F1?
A. Yes, the track can be learned quite easily

Q. Your strength is the knowledge of the car structure etc. What do you know about the car?
A. I was at the "car side" in vocational school so I think I know it pretty well.

Q. How much does the driver need to know about the car?
A. The more you know the easier the job is to tell others what you want etc.

Q. How difficult it's to get to F1 if you don't have any big sponsors or money?
A. Money always helps but if you don't have it you just have to drive good enough and hope they catch you. Nowadays it's mostly about how good driver you are, there's only a few of those who actually pay for their place.

:)

Reminds me of the times when I used to do this more to you :D haha.

Reminded me of the times you did the translations to me too!!! :D

Thank you so much, in the name of my friends too!!! :):dancin:

Williams sign Bottas as official test driver

Williams have confirmed the appointment of Finland’s Valtteri Bottas as the team’s official test driver. Bottas, a 20-year old from Nastola, will take up the role vacated by Nico Hulkenberg as he steps up as a team race driver.

Having begun karting at the age of six, Bottas has a strong record of success with seven years in the Finnish national squad. In 2006, he concluded his karting career by winning the WSK International Series Formula A, Finnish Formula A and Finnish ICA.

In 2007, he moved to Formula Renault where, in 2008, he won both the Eurocup and NEC championships with 17 wins and 22 podiums from 28 starts. In 2009, he graduated to Formula Three with ART and was the highest placed rookie, finishing third in the championship with six second-place finishes and two pole positions in the 10-round Euroseries Championship. He also won the F3 Masters last year.

“This is a great way to start 2010,” Bottas said of his Williams signing. “I am very honoured to have been selected by a team as prestigious as AT&T Williams, one of the most significant names in the sport. This is an important step in my career but now the real work starts to get to the top. I am sure I will learn a lot with the team and I trust that together we will achieve great results for the years to come.

“This opportunity gives me even more positive energy to improve as a driver and achieve my future targets as my ultimate goal will be to become Formula One world champion one day. I take the opportunity to thank Sir Frank Williams and the senior management of the team and also to thank my management and my sponsors for all their work and support so far.”

On Bottas’s appointment, team principal Frank Williams said: “Valtteri’s CV is very impressive, with a long list of success in the right junior formulae. We hope that the role of official test driver in our squad will provide him with another step in his development. We wish him all the best in the Formula Three Euroseries this season.”

Awesome! I hope he drives as race driver someday, he is amazing driver. Wow, I thought there won't be any good news but that is awesome! :)

McLaren Mercedes
Jenson Button
Lewis Hamilton

Ferrari
Felipe Massa
Fernando Alonso ( :( )

I would put this smiley after this name instead:
McLaren Mercedes
Jenson Button :(
Lewis Hamilton

I don't mind the slightest bit that Kimi is out of the devil's team. He would have had a terrible year at that team in 2010 had he stayed there. It's easy to say anything with hindsight but it's more than clear that Domenicali simply hated Kimi. Now he can go and love his Fernando. And Kimi can go and have some fun and spend their money... :cheeky:

Petrov confirmed as Renault launch R30

Russian driver Vitaly Petrov will partner Robert Kubica at Renault, the team confirmed on Sunday. The news came as the team revealed their 2010 car at Spain’s Valencia circuit, where pre-season testing begins on Monday.

Petrov, 25, was runner-up in the 2009 GP2 Series and will become the first Russian to compete in Formula One racing when he takes to the grid in Bahrain next month. China’s Ho-Pin Tung was confirmed as Renault’s third driver, with Belgian Jerome d'Ambrosio and Czech driver Jan Charouz as reserves.

"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to working with the team this season,” said Petrov. “I've always dreamed of racing in Formula One and so to make my debut with a top team like Renault is very exciting. The first race is just over a month away so I will make sure I spend as much time as possible with the team over the next few weeks so that I am fully prepared in time for Bahrain."

Renault team principal Eric Boullier commented: "This is a very special day for Vitaly and we welcome him into the team. As a rookie, we recognise that Vitaly will have a lot to learn this season, but his performances in GP2 last year were outstanding and confirmed that he is ready to make the step up to Formula One. With Robert alongside him, Vitaly has the perfect role model to learn from and I'm confident he will deliver on the promise he has shown throughout his career."

Kubica and Petrov revealed the R30 to the assembled media, complete with its new black and yellow livery - the iconic colours made famous by Renault in the 1980s. With stable aero regulations the R30 is a mixture of evolution and revolution, and is much more svelte than its predecessor. In particular the rear of the car has been considerably reworked to allow the car to make the most of the double-decker diffusers that were first seen last year. Changes have also been made to the architecture of the chassis to adapt to the refuelling ban, which has required the installation of a much larger fuel tank.

Speaking at the presentation, Boullier praised the team's efforts in delivering the new car in time for the first test: "We've been working flat-out during the winter to ensure that we begin the new season in the best shape possible. The R30 should be a competitive, strong and reliable car, and we've opted for an aggressive development strategy throughout the season. Now we're here ready for the first test and we're all excited to see if the car performs as we think it will."

Both Kubica and Petrov were thrilled to see their new car and spoke of their hopes for the season ahead: "The team has been working on the new car for a long time and it's clear that we are moving in the right direction," said Kubica. "Now we need to maximise the winter tests to keep up this momentum and continue improving the car. Our priority is to make the car easy to drive because the new rules favour cars that are not too sensitive - we need a car that behaves consistently in a wide range of conditions."

Petrov added: "The new car looks stunning and the colours remind everybody of Renault's great history in the sport. I can't wait to drive the car for the first time and start working with the team."

The R30 will get its first run at Valencia on Monday and Renault will remain at the circuit until Wednesday evening to complete the first pre-season test session.

Cool, first Russian F1 driver! Didn't see that coming.

There's nothing wrong with Alonso. He's great driver, I like Massa a lot less. Come on, why is he in the team? Räikkönen won the championship once, Massa haven't won. So why is he still there?

Oh well, whatever. It seems like Dominicali is going to make love with Alonso and Massa is going to be jealous. Drama...

Because he's their baby :cheeky:

Actually I don't personally have anything against neither of them (though they're not my favourite drivers), I'm just very disappointed on how Ferrari acted in this thing with Kimi.
However, I will still continue watching F1, it's still interesting even though Kimi isn't there. The sport hasn't changed.

There's Lotus and Schumacher and so on. :D Interesting season even without Kimi. And I can wait that Bottas wins championship! :)

Me either, lol! I think he needs to be race driver first though :D

Now, we will see which one is a bigger a** licker: Massa or Alonso. Domi needs it and Kimi wasn't the kind of guy. So, it's obvious he didn't like him. But, I'm so happy that Kimi hasn't changed the slightest bit. That's why I like him. He's just himself, no matter what people think or do.

The sport is the same, it just showed me its true colors. It's much more about politics and money than about the sport itself. Kimi was right in 2007, that he would've liked to race in the '70s when F1 was more of a sport than business. He was inside of it so he must have known what was it all about. I can imagine that he got bitter and bitter and when this whole Ferrari saga came - then he decided that it's better out of it.

I don't care who wins as long as Ferrari will not. Even I'd say: go Schumi! LOL

I believe that Bottas becomes race driver in few years, so don't worry. ;)

Formula should be racing, not politics. It's more politic now. :(

The idea of Kimi Raikkonen returning to formula one in 2011 with Red Bull is “interesting”. That is the admission of Dr Helmut Marko, the energy drink company’s motor sport advisor to team owner Dietrich Mateschitz.
Having agreed to make room at Ferrari for Fernando Alonso this year, Finn Raikkonen, the 30-year-old world champion of 2007, elected to switch to WRC in 2010 rather than accept an offer from McLaren.
He is driving a works Citroen C4, but his salary is being paid for by major sponsor Red Bull.
It is therefore rumoured that, with Mark Webber’s contract expiring at the end of 2010, Raikkonen could become Sebastian Vettel’s teammate next season.
“He (Raikkonen) has a contract with Red Bull, let’s wait and see how this develops,” Austrian Marko is quoted as saying by the Dutch website formule1.nl.
“We have a large Red Bull family so there are many options,” he added. “We will have to see how he goes in rallying and what he wants to do.
“But the idea is at least interesting,” added Marko.
Since deciding to switch to the WRC, Raikkonen has said he has no regrets, and is enjoying the discipline’s challenge, variety, lack of murky politics and the camaraderie of his rivals.
When asked this week by the Independent newspaper if he is missing F1, the Finn shrugged: “For me it does not matter.
“I do not follow it closely — I just read it in the papers like you.”
