Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

I wouldn't think Michael would be going to Ireland. He doesn't care enough to keep the items hence the auction why follow em around? Odd, but I guess I've seen odder things :lol:

*dead*

:lol: :lol: :lol:

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

Thanks for the news updates. Well, that's interesting about him possibly going to Ireland. It does seem kinda odd, however, if negotiations are ongoing it's possible some interest on his part may be known. Otherwise, negotiations are moot if he has zero interest. Like the other guy said (I think his name was Martin Nolan), with Michael you just never know. lol

Aww I think it would be kinda cool to sort of send the stuff off in some sort of way. And that place also has an Audrey Hepburn dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Man, that would be awesome to be there with the things of my two fave people around to see in one place. :girl_sigh: But alas, I'm stuck here waiting for the auction. It's either go see the stuff or wait to bid on something and actually own it. The latter seems the smarter of the two. Maybe that museum will bid on and win something amazing. Then later on I can still have the experience in the land of lucky charms and leprechauns. :cloud9:

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

thanks for the news and history

2004 - In Colorado, Michael Jackson shopped at Wal-Mart while wearing a ski mask. An employee called police to report someone shopping in a ski mask causing Jackson to be stopped by police a short time later. "There were no problems, and that was it" after Jackson identified himself.

This is so funny lol

Michael Jackson taps local house to auction items

By RICHARD CLOUGH

Los Angeles Business Journal Staff

Hands On: Noland and Julien of Julien's Auctions with Michael Jackson's property.Inside an unremarkable warehouse in an industrial Los Angeles neighborhood sits a throne fit for a king.
The massive red velvet chair is adorned with gilded cupids, birds and other decorative flourishes.
But that’s not all.
Steps away, a dozen statues of laughing, frolicking children linger. And against one wall lean the iron gates to Neverland Ranch, Michael Jackson’s famed 2,700-acre amusement park of a home.
This warehouse – in a location kept secret to avoid prying eyes and paparazzi’s flash bulbs – houses a curious mix of artifacts from the life of Jackson, the international megacelebrity whose peculiarities and personal problems have in recent years overshadowed his musical talent.
Now, L.A. auction house Julien’s Auctions is preparing to sell off the throne, statues and some 2,000 of Jackson’s other personal effects to the highest bidders April 22-25 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “He’s a very eccentric and eclectic collector,” said auction house owner Darren Julien, who gave the Business Journal one of the first looks at the items. “His tastes are really diverse.”

Julien has made a name for himself as one of the top entertainment memorabilia auctioneers in the business. The 40-year-old entrepreneur has arranged sales for Barbara Streisand, Cher, Jerry Seinfeld and a host of other celebrities.

His six-year-old outfit raised about $12 million last year at its auctions. The auction house is already booked solid through 2010 with 10 auctions in the works. And at a time when the economy is forcing even the wealthiest to cut back, Julien projects sales to top $20 million in the coming years.
Now, with the Jackson auction projected to raise $1.5 million to $3 million alone, the company finds itself with a much higher profile than it has ever experienced.
“To work with somebody as iconic as Michael Jackson, that is absolutely massive for a firm like us,” said Martin Nolan, 46, executive director of the company and Julien’s right-hand man.
Rise and fall
The auction, featuring items all taken from Jackson’s Neverland Ranch in Los Olivos near Santa Barbara, will not be lacking for spectacle. The eccentric pop star’s eclectic taste will be on full display in items ranging from the mundane to the ornate to the simply bizarre.
There are dozens of arcade games, flight simulators, pinball machines and nickelodeons; the 1954 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine used in the film “Driving Miss Daisy”; multiple suits of armor; ornate, 10-foot-tall candelabras; go-karts, bumper cars, buggies and all-terrain vehicles; and a selection of British military uniforms. A variety of antiques, paintings and statues are also going on the block.

Most of the items are priced conservatively. A Roland KR-1070 digital piano, for example, is estimated to sell for between $1,000 and $2,000. But the appraisals generally did not factor in the singer’s celebrity, which could drive up the prices, particularly for the elaborate stage-worn costumes, jewel-encrusted gloves and other Jackson-specific paraphernalia.
The performer achieved staggering success in the 1980s and his landmark 1982 album, “Thriller,” is considered far and away the best selling album of all time worldwide, with estimated sales in excess of 100 million. But in the 1990s, he became the target of child molestation accusations that damaged both his popularity and creative output; he has been acquitted of all charges.
“I think the best that can be said about Michael Jackson at this point is that he’s famous,” said J. Randy Taraborrelli, a journalist and biographer who has known Jackson since childhood. “His fame has a foundation, of course; that foundation is ‘Thriller’ and his amazing showmanship. But in more recent times, his fame has been the result of the controversy.”
Indeed, in recent years, Jackson has had well-publicized money troubles. After reportedly falling behind on a $270 million loan, he closed the main house at Neverland Ranch in 2006. In November, he transferred the title of the ranch to an investment firm, though the singer is believed to have retained an interest in the property.
Jackson’s representatives were not made available for comment for this article, but Taraborrelli said he does not believe the auction is a result of the singer’s financial problems. It’s been reported the entertainer is in talks to launch a comeback this summer.
Taraborrelli believes the 50-year-old Jackson may simply want to close a turbulent and often painful chapter of his life.
The auction got its start when Julien received a phone call in the middle of last year from Jackson’s manager, who said the singer wanted to conduct his own sale.
“Michael Jackson had known who we were. We had done some work for his family members in the past,” said Julien, who had met the performer through other auctions. Julien and Nolan toured Neverland Ranch and began painstakingly cataloging the items. They have had several telephone conversations with the singer – who is believed to live in Las Vegas after recently buying a home there – on what he wanted to retain. On a day-to-day basis, Julien said the company has been working with Jackson’s manager.

Fine line
The auction house has to walk a fine line, though, between promoting the auctions and exploiting the celebrities. To do that, the company takes pains to keep its office and warehouses secret. Its Web site simply lists a post office box number. While celebrities rarely visit its decidedly unglamorous headquarters near the Loyola Marymount University campus, aggressive tabloid reporters and paparazzi have been known to show up unannounced.
The company’s promotional efforts have become perhaps more important as the eroding economy has chipped away at the pocket books of even the wealthiest collectors.
Al Hernandez, owner of Old Pro Gallery, a memorabilia shop at the Glendale Galleria, said business has taken a noticeable dip as the economic recession has set in. What’s more, Jackson memorabilia – such as unsigned personal photos taken at concerts – has not sold well since his legal troubles.
“We haven’t sold anything of Michael Jackson’s in over a year,” Hernandez said.
But even with the economic distress, there is a market for notable merchandise. An auction of late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent’s art collection held in Paris last week, featuring works from renowned artists such as Henri Matisse and Piet Mondrian, brought in a record $261 million.
Jackson’s auction doesn’t feature artwork of that caliber, but Taraborrelli, the biographer, said the pop singer’s name still has a recognition factor that few celebrities enjoy – and the stuff at auction will be unique to him. “Michael is still thought of in many countries as the King of Pop because of his influence,” Taraborrelli said. “Fame is fame, and people are interested in famous people.”

Im agree with you, I dont think he do that.

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

lol..more contradictory articles from reporters who don't even know where he lives, let alone anything else about him.

thanks for the news:)

they named a slew of celebs who auctioned through Julien's and none of them were accused of having money troubles. only Michael is accused of that. plus they never let anyone know about the pics from concerts. and, they weren't signed by MJ. now they go and admit that MJ's name holds significance.

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

I know....makes you wanna scream, don't it?

I can't stand how Randy T always shows up to drop his worthless two cents everytime there is anything about Michael going on. This guy thinks he is an expert on Michael and probably hasn't seen Michael since the first time he saw him when he had on that safari hat.

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

"This is the biggest thing we have ever done in terms of exhibitions. We have had calls from everyone from the Today Show in the US to Hollywood Tonight.
"They're all getting on flights over here next week for the press preview on Thursday. The phone has just been ringing off the hook," she continued.

That's for sure.

wish i could go to these auctions..would be so cool to go :)

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

I'm sad n happy at the same time. stupid question, but why IS he selling them :| like, its a good thing to keep for his children or somethin.

Re: Feb 27 - Mar 1: Michael Jackson going to Ireland? {Updated for Feb 28 on post #24}

cause he doesnt want the stuff anymore. im sure if the kids want some arcade games when they are older they can go buy some themselves. he obviously decided that he wont create another neverland so theres no point putting such things in a lock up that will cost money and will just gather dust.

Michael Jackson News for March 1, 2009:

Shopping Buddies: Michael Jackson & Christian Audigier on Rodeo

When I was a teenager there were a couple of things I wanted to do if I ever moved to California. 1) Shop on Rodeo and 2) meet Michael Jackson. (I’d already been to Disneyland.) Well this dream still hasn’t come true for me but a few lucky people got to see the King of Pop shop on Rodeo Drive last night (Friday, April 27).

Paparazzi flocked around the “Thriller” singer as he and his shopping companion designer Christian Audigier made their rounds to Dolce & Gabbana and Dior. (Wait, is that an Ed Hardy t-shirt Michael is wearing? Cute.)
As previously reported, Jackson will be having an estate auction at the Beverly Hills Hilton this coming April. A few things on the auction block include life-size statues of Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. There’s even a molded rubber Batman costume fitted over a replica of the King of Pop, and an original X-Men arcade game.

See the treasures of Neverland before they go under hammer

Prior to their auction, Michael Jackson's memorabilia will be on show in Kildare, says Andrea Byrne

People from all over Europe will descend on Kildare as Newbridge Silverware gets ready to host the world exclusive exhibition of legendary popstar Michael Jackson's most iconic memorabilia.
This could be the one-and-only opportunity for diehard Jackson fans to get a glimpse of his most treasured possessions before they are auctioned in April. The exhibition, which is free of charge, opens next Friday at the Museum of Style Icons and will run for two weeks.
"We visit many world-class museums and participate in exhibitions with them, and they don't have anything over Newbridge," says Martin Nolan and Darren Julien, owners of Julien Auctioneers, the LA-based auctioneer of celebrity merchandise, who are responsible for the auctioning of Jackson's 2,000-odd belongings.
Aside from boasting an exclusive preview, Newbridge is the only European venue for an exhibition.
"We're like a big fish in a small pond in Ireland. It will get the attention of all of Europe by having it in Ireland. But if we went to London, it would be lost with so much other stuff going on," says Martin Nolan, who is from Hodson Bay in Athlone. He moved to the States in 1989, where he worked on Wall Street, before making the move to Los Angeles.
According to Nolan and Julien, the big man himself is fully aware that Ireland is playing host to the world exclusive. Apparently, it was important to him.
Among the array of possessions on view in Newbridge include five crystal gloves seen in Jackson's short film, Ghosts, the jacket he wore on the Dangerous tour, a rhinestone-covered hat worn during the Jackson 5 Triumph tour as well as his MTV Moon Man award.
Among the most expensive items going under the hammer in the forthcoming four-day auction in Hollywood is a Rolls-Royce limousine, the gold interior of which was signed by Jackson. Even the gates from his Neverland Ranch are up for the taking.
"It will probably be the biggest auction anyone has ever done. If you look back at Andy Warhol's estate sale in the late 80s, or William Randolph Hearst, both of whom were eclectic and eccentric and were collectors -- that's what we could compare it to," says Darren.
There's has been much speculation as to whether Jackson's reasons for selling his iconic possessions are financially motivated. The auctioneers, who dealt with the star on a personal level throughout the process, remain coy when asked.
"We're not aware ourselves of his exact financial position, but one of the reasons that he decided to go this route is -- imagine having a place that has houses and train stations and theatres and ... the responsibility to store all that stuff ... so the natural and logical thing to do was to conduct an auction," says Julien. Nolan adds: "It's closing a chapter in his life. He never returned [to his Neverland ranch] after he was acquitted in the trial in 2005. This is putting that part of his life behind him ... This auction won't impact Michael's finances in any way ... it's pocket change".
Given the global economic climate, do they expect people to be more frugal in their bids, than they would have been, say, two years ago?
"We're very heartened by the Yves Saint Laurent sale, that's bringing in record prices. There is money there. People are looking to do something with their money. They're afraid of the banks, they're afraid of the stock market," says Nolan adding, "What they can do is own something that they identify with Michael Jackson from his career and his life. Over time, there's a good likelihood that these pieces will increase in value, as we've seen with Marilyn Monroe and Elvis."
King of Pop: A Once in a Lifetime Auction; Michael Jackson Exclusive Worldwide Preview at the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons, located at the Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre, Newbridge, Co Kildare, from next Friday.

People occasionally act like zombies at Feather Brooksbank. When a few jokers wanted to recreate the video of Michael Jackson’s Thriller for the Christmas party, employees were happy to volunteer as “office drone” backing dancers.

And what was Phillips doing in 1981?
Listening to Michael Jackson and doing the moon walk,” Phillips said. “I was a spry 9-year-old and a very average T-ball player.”
Who, 28 years later, is now a head coach of a basketball team described by even Oral Roberts head coach Scott Sutton as “simply special.”

The brothers are just the latest "it" group in a long line of pop idols. Every teen generation has them: Elvis Presley ... the Beatles ... Michael Jackson ... the New Kids on the Block.

Not to be outdone, the rest of the cast keeps pace. Yang King is a riot. Williams is a delight. Lu embodies “slapstick” comedy. And Basco has some show-stealing moments—his Michael Jackson moon-walking one of the many highlights of the evening.

Michael Jackson HIStory for March 1, 2009:

2004 - Several edited documents were released concerning the Michael Jackson child molestation case. The release included about 100 pages of phone records, videos of Jackson and a DVD of a party held at Neverland Ranch.

Personally, I think Michael Jackson is first and foremost a gentleman. And Gentlemen are not into porn!

So, the porn magazines that were found in NL when his estate was raided weren't Mike's? And a gentleman is defined by not liking porn? Your comment was based on what some "hot" producer said about MJ and porn. Maybe the reason why MJ "cringed" when he saw porn on the tv screen was because he was not going to look at it with two little boys. Also, that article was posted last year. So why are last year's news being posted on here? Gosh, some of you fans just take something and create something out of it without thinking. However, what else is new on this board?

Thanks for the news and I do not know how true MJ going to Ireland is so I am going to take it as a rumor.

stupid question, but why IS he selling them

I do not believe in stupid questions unless the answer to the question has been stated various times on the same board. The man wants to sell them. They are things. They do not mean anything to him anymore. He does not want those things anymore. If he wants to sell his things, let him. I do not understand what is so sad about it. What is sad about letting go of the past and moving on? MJ does not seem like the kind of person to dwell in the past. The things that he is remaining for his children are far more important than pieces of clothing, video arcade games, paintings, and various replica of the glove, etc. etc. The man is happy in his life. He has moved into a beautiful palace in Beverly Hills with his three great children, working hard on his new CD, re-creating his empire, hanging out with hip designer (who makes tacky clothes) Christian A., and is enjoying his life. The auction is one of the best things that MJ has ever done in regards to his career and legacy. The auction gives the public a glisme into the world of MJ. This is way better than nobody media clowns trying to find the latest dish about Mike. With this auction, Mike is showing the public and the laughable media, via Julien Auctions, the greatness that is Michael Jackson. I feel that fans who are "sad" about this, should not be. There is nothing sad about any of this.

When are the auction items available for the public to see in Ireland ?

happy for Michael.. and mostly because he looks happy...

and I like how these auctioners are handling the legit media on this auction...this weekend I saw People mag which has 2 full pages of the auction items.. they called him King of Pop and I saw no snyde remarks..............

one thing is that another fan site MJ Portal has a article repeating tabloid crap about the auction.. and even though I am more num to tabloid spewing crap..........I have very little tolerate of MJfan sites.. proactively repeating the tabloid crap...

I love have a clear out of all the crap that one accumulates (not that MJ's stuff is crap, of course lol). Sometimes it can just weigh a person down, Im just so pleased to see MJ out and about and getting on with his life. I am certainly not sad.
