LOS ANGELES (AP) — The 22 pieces of custom-made furniture Michael Jackson commissioned for his London home are going on the auction block.

Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions says a gilded red velvet sofa that seats nine, a leopard-print chair trimmed with ostrich feathers and a pair of velvet armchairs embroidered with gold eagles are among the offerings. Jackson intended to use the furnishings during his "This Is It" comeback concert run in London.

Fans can visit a re-creation of the home at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood casino from June 14 to June 25 before the items are sold at auction. A portion of the proceeds will benefit two charities: MusiCares, which provides health care and other services for struggling musicians, and Joshua's Heart, which aims to end world hunger.

Michael Jackson's home being recreated
The UK home of Michael Jackson is being recreated for fans with pieces of furniture he personally commissioned going on display, it was announced.

A luxurious 16ft sofa and a feather-trimmed armchair hand picked for Elizabeth Taylor are among the items the late King of Pop ordered for the Kent mansion he planned to live in during his sell-out concerts in London.
It has taken seven days to ship the furniture from the renowned Colombostile Furniture Company in Italy to the Republic of Ireland where they will go on show on Tuesday.

Jackson's furniture
The exhibition, at Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons in Co Kildare, will run until Sunday May 30 before the pieces are sold at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas by celebrity agents Julien's Auctions.
Phil Donnelly, of Newbridge Silverware, said two 40ft containers carried the 17 items of bespoke furniture overseas for the world exclusive showing.
''This is literally going to be what Michael Jackson's home was going to be like during those series of concerts,'' she said. ''Fans are going to get the chance to see it themselves.''
Jackson, 50, died suddenly last June just weeks ahead of the start of his gruelling This Is It tour in London's O2 Arena.
Los Angeles prosecutors have charged his personal doctor, Dr Conrad Murray, with involuntary manslaughter.
The pop star was expected to move in to a £15 million manor in Chislehurst, Kent, for the series of 50 comeback concerts.
A total of 22 pieces of Colombostile furniture, commissioned by the icon, will go under the hammer - each with a nameplate stating ''Made Exclusively for Michael Jackson.''
The sale and exhibition includes the nine seat sofa which is in three pieces of carved solid wood with red velvet button tufted upholstery. While it would retail at 215,000 dollars (156,000 euro/£141,000) it is expected to fetch up to 150,000 dollars (110,000 euro/£99,000).
A lavish Swarovski crystal-embellished bergere finished in platinum-gold leaf and upholstered in metallic leather and a second chair covered in faux leopard fur and edged in Ostrich feathers - which Jackson wanted for when Elizabeth Taylor visited - are both priced at 18,000 dollars (13,000 euro/£11,850) in the sale.
Jackson clothes on display include a signed red leather Beat It style jacket, a white glove and signed fedora gifted to President George Bush.
Colombostile will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these items to benefit charities MusiCares and Joshua's Heart.
Last March, the Museum of Style Icons held the world exclusive exhibition of personal property from the pop star's Neverland ranch - which attracted almost 50,000 fans from all over the world.
Ms Donnelly said the venue was again chosen for another world exclusive because of its close relationship with Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auctions who was born in Athlone.
''This is almost a year to our original exhibit and because of its success we were asked to hold this special exhibition of pieces Michael personally commissioned,'' she added.
''We felt we would be honoured to hold this event. It's in celebration of him and a tribute.''
Meanwhile the Museum of Icons is exhibiting memorabilia from 2009 movie Star Trek which are also going under the hammer at Julien's.
It features wardrobe items worn by Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock, during his pivotal meeting with the young James T Kirk and Starfleet cadet costumes worn by Zoe Saldana and Chris Pine.

:scratch:humming MJ's song "MONEY'

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

How do we even know MJ ordered these things? Even if he did, he never saw them nor touch these furniture...what is the point of all this?

I feel MJ's name is being in & for everything for a quick buck. He is being overexposed and I am not sure he would have wanted that.

Humming right along to "money".

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

It's coming to Ireland, quite close to me actually so I'll check it out anyway, there are a lot of other MJ items on display not just the custom made furniture.

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

I really don't see the point of this at all.......

Money, money, money!

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

Interesting...

hmmm money..

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

I'm likely in the minority here, but this auction doesn't seem all that preposterous considering everything.

These were custom designed by Michael with collaboration from extremely high end designers, and custom made to exacting detail involving alot of workmanship and expensive materials. I just honestly can't imagine them auctioning off these pieces at a huge loss. How great a calling is there for pieces like these to the general public?

I've shopped for furniture at name brand higher quality stores that ask for thousands for just one piece of furniture that is manufactured in large quantities. If there are fans out there that can afford a chair that's $1,000 much less $5,000, more power to them. This company would have to mark each piece down by thousands and thousands to even come into my "dream" wishes, and I would imagine the majority of other members on here. And since this is an auction, there will be BIG time collectors and BIG time money irregardless of the price. Making things less pricey would only drive up the bids to those that can spend that kind of money, it's reality. Business is business, and the fans like me and probably most on this board are not the target audience for this auction.

It only seems reasonable that recoving at least the cost of materials, time, and workmanship is the norm for any high end company. Unfortunately, that pretty much does leave us out because of the nature of the beast, not to "rip" us off per se.

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

How on Earth any furniture represents what Michael was..?! I thought he made music, not furniture.

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

Its all too much. Like that shell chair that MJ ordered was meant to be a present for Paris and now its on auction?

Re: Michael Jackson's home being recreated

I read that AEG paid for this furniture anyway....so they bought it with blood money..Michael's blood...He never used it or even sat in it...they are using his name to sell it to try and recoup some cash..They make me sick.
