Lionsgate have announced that they will be releasing the film "Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland" on the DVD format on October 10th. They sent over the following details:

The scripted film is based on the best-selling book written by the late Michael Jackson's most trusted bodyguards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard with Tanner Colby.

Featuring the acting debut of Navi, a Michael Jackson tribute artist who worked closely with the pop legend as his body double for many years, the Lifetime Original Movie gives an intimate view of The King of Pop both as a caring father and as a man enduring untold hardships during the last years of his life.

A behind-the-scenes perspective from those closest to the music icon, the Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $14.98.

If there are any they'll probably reveal them when it gets closer to release. I'd like to see some as well, since it sounds like there were deleted scenes.
 
Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall any of the lifetime biopic movies on musical artists having special features.. I know I've looked on the back of some but it was a while back.

Even if if I liked the movie I wouldn't want to add it to my collection, it has pretty average and bad pad parts. Whatever floats your boat, guys .
 
I watched it and it was ok but I agree that I don't think anyone can do justice playing Michael, I much prefer watching his home vids and documentaries of the actual person. I like to see him smiling and happy.

I know its not the real world and we all have bad times but I hate to think of Michael being sad. The parts where it shows his kids birthday parties with no one there but the staff and when he says he lonely. Also the parts where the new security start to take over and wont let anyone see micheal, it makes me want to scream at the tv and tell Bill to push his way through to see him. I loved the relationship it showed they had and I hope it was like that as it seems he really did see Michael as a friend and wanted to protect him from the people that weren't there for him and were only out for what they can get.
 
I haven't seen the film yet. I have read the book though. I enjoyed it but found it very sad at the same time.

It definitely had me shedding a few tears. You should watch it and if you've read the book you know how it goes but I bet youll be blubbering at the end like me :cry:

I watched a film on you tube the other day about their whole life and how it started, I really enjoyed that It was called 'The Jacksons an American dream', have you seen that?

Years ago that was on tv and I saw some of it. Would defo like to rewatch it.

I'ts on you tube, i really enjoy films like this. I love the Tina turner story which coincidentally has Angela Bassett in too.

How so? I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I've seen a lot of interviews with Taraborrelli...and he seems objective. I can't think of any author whose stance on anything (or anyone) is completely neutral. Everyone has an agenda; what matters is whether that agenda matches the truth. I originally bought JRT's book because Aphrodite Jones recommended it, at the end of her own.
 
I'll always say this. His 91 book is great. It's straight from the Jacksons' books, interviews, court docs, millions of articles written about them from the beginning. He just rewrites everything like he was there. I recognize about 95% of it now from other sources.

I wouldn't bother with any updated versions because his later sources were just trashy tabloids and from what I've heard, he rewrote some of his original book.
 
I know Taraborrelli gets a decent amount of flack through the years.. but I'll have to say that his book was one of the better reads.. I much prefer to read a neutral book that an anti or pro book.. Don't get me wrong, I could always enjoy an MJ glory piece, I dig them.. But when I am trying to learn about the man, I want an objective piece - so I can understand who HE was not who THE Michael Jackson was..

Do I think the book was 100% factual, no.. It could not be, he did not know michael personally on a deep level.. no book is 100% factual, not even "Michal Jackson: Moonwalk"..

When reading something I simply use my common sense and take specific areas with a grain of salt and others more so - dependent of how I personally understand the man and from my perspective.

DVD Review: Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland

Lifetime has a reputation for having produced some pretty terrible music biopics, among them Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, Whitney, and Britney Ever After. Let it be known here and now: Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland breaks the trend with an engrossing depiction of the final three years in the life of its subject. Director Dianne Houston and screenwriter Elizabeth Hunter have crafted a respectful, sympathetic, and tasteful portrait of Jackson and his three children living a nomadic lifestyle in wake of his acquittal (on all counts) of various unsavory charges. Don't expect recreations of Jackson's most famous moments—this isn't a 'life story,' but rather a snapshot of the man as a single dad trying to find a new permanent home following the abandoning of Neverland.

Now available on DVD via Lionsgate, is Searching for Neverland a great movie? No, it's a made-for-TV movie and the format comes with inherent limitations. The dialogue is sometimes blunt and inelegant, with occasionally heavy-handed foreshadowing. And the acting ranges from quite good—Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead as head of Jackson's personal security team Bill Whitfield—to perfunctory. As Jackson, professional impersonator Navi has the look and body language down cold. But his accent sounds like Bruce Lee struggling with a British accent. I kept waiting for him to say, "Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all of the heavenly glory." Honestly, the producers should've dubbed Navi with someone who could better evoke Jackson's speech patterns.

Searching for Neverland is based on the book Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days by the aforementioned Whitfield and co-security guard Javon Beard (portrayed by Sam Adegoke, another standout performance). I've not read the book, so I've no idea how faithfully the film represents their account. But bear in mind, Searching is not the story of Jackson the lightning rod of controversy. In fact, it's just as much Whitfield and Beard's story as it is Jackson's. Throughout the film, Jackson is depicted as a man constantly searching for escape from the hounding of press and fans. There are moments of joy (a go kart race, the discovery of a perfect new home—quickly dubbed "Wonderland"—by Jackson that he and children Prince, Paris, and Blanket would never come to reside within), but mostly we see Jackson trapped.

Those who already despise Jackson for whatever reasons, perhaps choosing to believe the various charges (of which he was acquitted) and rumors, may dismiss his "struggle" as completely self-devised. Searching for Neverland may not register very deeply with that sector of the potential audience. The psycho MJ maniacs out there who believe the man walked on water will inevitably nitpick every detail. But for general audiences wishing to gain some insight into Jackson's final years, Searching is a non-sensationalized, sensitive account that is worth the time. A big surprise given Lifetime's track record.
 
^ thanks for sharing.. that makes me wonder if it was one of the songs he submitted to Michael back in 06-08 whatever year it was when he submitted songs to him for Mike to record.
 
^ the only thing is, how the heck would the people behind this movie have that song and know the story behind it.. but interesting thought for sure!!
 
Does anyone know if the part MJ likes Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" is in original book as well?

I've always associated that song to Michael and wished he sang it!! when that happened in the movie, I looked at my wife like.. Ohhhhh!!!! cuz she knows I always said that
