Dr Phil show Friday, 9 y.o. obsessed with Michael Jackson

rofl...i guess my mom should have brought me to that old talk show Geraldo when i was little since i had a big crush on michael jackson as a kid.
is this because hes dead and she has a crush? i mean theres many newer generations having crushes on elvis and others, so whats the big deal. hm, i bet Dr. Phil will show the kids room and it will have Michael pictures all over the wall...and he will say this is going too far!!!....well then i guess many of fans of stars need to see therapists then.

Oh Lord, what the hell.
What's wrong with having a crush on Michael Jackson? He's freaking GORGEOUS and incredible. Everybody should have a crush on him.....lol. haha. :)

Please, I don't see a problem with it. She's NINE. Most nine year olds have unhealthy obsessions with crap like the Jonas Brothers. Her mother should be thrilled.

^^^ I actually don't think a Jonas Brother Obsession is unhealthy. :p I have one for some odd reason. Don't like their music but I like looking at them. No popstar obsession is unhealthy, no matter how crappy the music.

And who knows, maybe it won't be so bad. The show.

While on the subject of Dr. Phil, I came across this:

Dr Phil's response to MJ's death...
http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt...rom=&vid=2acdb5d6-2e24-4d39-8e9c-8502510e257e

He was actually pretty respectful  He said that MJ lived up the road from him, and that he knew Michael had really spent these last few years trying to get his life and his career back on track. He also advised the family to keep Michael's children away from the media because the increased attention, in addition to the sudden change in circumstances, could be damaging to a grieving child. He asked the media to give them their space and to respect their privacy. So I don't know what to expect from this show

I thought what he said was respectful too. He lived close to Michael and would drive past twice a day :(

Michael is F.I.N.E. what's wrong with having a crush on him? ;) Plus he is a good role model. Unlike a lot of celebrities these days.

Amen!

lol. I don't find them appealing at all. haha.

But I didn't mean that having a popstar obession is unhealthy. I was just making a point about 9 year olds being obsessed with the Jonas Brothers and parents thinking it's fine. However, Michael Jackson is a different story. I'd be thrilled if my child was "obsessed" with Michael! lol. :)

I was crushing on Michael since I was 4

Better yet, she should look up the fools who sing about banging prostitutes and shooting high. How dare a 9 year old girl sing along to "Heal the World"?! How inappropriate.

She should be listening to Eminem and Lil' Wayne. She should sing along to "Cleanin' out my closet". NOT "Can You Feel It" Instead of singing "All the children all the world should be loving each other wholeheartedly" she would be yelling out the lyrics: "you stupid b*tch, I hope you f*ckin' burn in hell for this sh*t!". I guess that's what her mother wants

:hysterical:

I watched it. I feel bad for that little girl. Her mom brought her on Dr. Phil for no reason at all. Her mom's like "before the 25th she was normal and happy, she didn't even know who MJ was, until his napping. The mother was making her daughter's crush or what she calls "obsession" out to be something terrible. And then Dr. Phil tells the mother to let her daughter know that Mike was a human being, that he has children, and somethin' about Mike's surgery? I'm like wtf???

In the beginning the mother showed the girl's room. She was acting like the girl had everything MJ in her room. All I saw that related to Mike in that room was a piece of notebook paper that said MJ fan on the door. -_- That woman needs to get over it. Mike's a good role model anyways, so you'd think she would be happy that her daughter is looking up to Michael.

Ok, I have a confession-- I like Dr Phil and I DVR the show and watch it a few times a week when I have time. I just watched this episode and thought his advice was pretty good. I'm glad said that the mother should not label her child as "obsessed" -- this is a word that my parents called me when I was young and I hated it! I preferred "inspired by" or something like that! The only thing Dr Phil mentioned that I didn't like was that "he had a lot of surgery"... unnecessary, but I get that he was trying to say he was "real" and not just a glamourous figure.

I would have been so mad at my mom if she brought me on a show like that when I was young though! I feel like this mother just wanted the attention. The girl was cute and I loved watching her joy as she danced in her room. I hope she continues to love Michael and maybe we'll see her at MJJC one day! :)

I was afraid Dr. Phil was going to be negative so at first I watched with the volume very low! When I saw he wasn't bashing Michael, I rewatched and agree with you. He made some valild points. And the surgery mention wasn't at all necessary.

The little girl was adorable, and I love how a whole new generation is discovering Michael and loving him.

This is just too silly, so what if you have a crush on MJ??? It’s much better than other artists that are swearing more than singing. Michael Jackson is a great role model. To be honest I really think Michael is one of the best role-models I've ever seen. I can only imagine how great this world would be if we all tried to imitate his good work.

I have a feeling that the mom wanted attention. :mat: I did'nt see the show but from the posts and from watching talk shows in the past. There are people at times that just want too be seen.

Heaven forbid a child should be allowed a good role model... perhaps the mother would rather her child would dress like an adult prostitute and have babies before she hits 13...like so many other parents these days.

^^ Or be on the Maury Povich show saying I wanna have a baby at age 14 and 15 when god knows they can't take care of it.

And I wonder how much of that show is fake though. It seems a little OTT.

“You understand that Michael Jackson is just for fun. It’s a hobby, because you’ve got to go to school and you’ve got to have friends and do all that stuff, right?” Dr. Phil asks.

WTF? Trying to get her to not think about Michael by trying to get her to think about school?! Is that even logical?! Who the heck wants to think about how they're daily indoctrinated by the government through the sham that is public "education" when they can think about GOLD PANTS!!!

what, so she can't be obsessed with Michael Jackson AND do good in school and have friends? Half of my friends I met at school I only met BECAUSE we both liked MJ.
