Does anyone know if Prince has said anything?

Prince never talks to the press. I don't know why he would make an exception now.

nope.
doubt he will.
why has he never been a media obsession? i mean, you never see news about him or anything...

He should.. MJ is one of those artists who made a difference.. Prince and he were friends.. I know that.. MJ attended one of his recent Vegas gigs.. And not only then, but also during the Purple Rain period, I learned from Prince.org.

The guy is just trying to copy Michael in evrything he did, i'm sure he sis somehow jalous of MJ...
Prince's music doesn't sound like Mike's. Actually Prince and Mike knew each other, but they weren't like best buddies or anything. When Prince was playing Vegas about 3 or 4 years ago, Mike went to one of the shows and had a discussion with him. Maybe they were reminiscing about the ping pong battle from 86, lol. Prince was also in the studio with Mike & Quincy when Bad was recorded. I think Prince & Mike's (and Terrence Trent D'arby) main inspiration was James Brown.

A friend of mine sent me this earlier today. He is a Prince fan, Me an MJ fan. We had freindly banter over the back over the years about who was the best.

From local paper in Minneapolis.

Prince and Michael Jackson were friendly rivals? Seriously? According to former band members of the Purple One, it’s true.

A report in the Startribune, Bobby Z., Prince’s drummer for the Revolution, remembers watching the 1984 Grammys with Prince as Michael Jackson swept the Grammys.

“We were watching rough cuts of [the movie] ‘Purple Rain,’ and we knew that’s where Prince wanted to be the next year,” Z said Thursday.

Michael Jackson even showed up to 2 Purple Rain shows backstage. Although Michael Jackson did want to work with Prince a few years later, Prince declined due to lyrical differences.

Michael Bland insisted they got along fine. “They’d shoot hoops at Paisley Park,” Prince’s studio/home in Chanhassen. “We used to get packages from MJJ Productions [with] footage of Sly Stone performing in Europe. Prince would pop it in the VCR, and we’d watch it.”

Prince even defended Michael at a press conference in 2000 where he said something along the lines of “we don’t really know what is going on with him and maybe we need to chill on that.” (I can’t find the original transcript so paraphrasing people.)

Personally speaking, I did see Michael Jackson attend one of Prince’s shows at 3121 Las Vegas in 2006 with Wil I Am of the Black Eyed Peas and Chris Tucker. Michael did not make the after show as planned where he was to be seated with Michael Jordan.

Recently, Prince has been performing Michael Jackson songs in his sets, “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” and recently “Dancing Machine” by the Jackson 5.

He didn't make a statement about James Brown passing, nor attended the funeral.

It’s nice to know my favorite artist Prince had an interesting connection with Michael that many of us did not know, beating him in hoops I am sure. -Dr.FB

I'm sure Prince is will more than likely perform one of Michael's songs as a tribute in his next live appearence. I always thought it was cool when he name checked Michael in one of his after show concerts at the Indigo, O2 in 2007.

Prince attended one of The Jacksons, Victory Tour concerts. I not 100% sure but I think he attended Michael's Bad Tour on one of the USA legs, most likely the one in 1988 ?

Wow, that's so cool, I love Prince, I'd love to see him perform those.

I really got into him 2006/2007, went to see him in 2007, he was fab! And then it seems that Michael has had my attention ever since.

Yeah, Prince made a little joke about it. I don't remember his exact words, but it had to do with "Your butt is mine". Prince said "he's not singing that to me and vice versa", because of what it would imply. During the 80s Mike & Prince were considered "gay" or at the least feminine by some people. Prince is kinda right, the jokes would have never ended, lol.

That's cool, do you know what he said?

I doubt he will speak. He has never done that. He has chosen better no to talk at all. If it's not about his own art.

Prince's personality is pretty lame. He zinks he's all zat. Not in badass way. A lame way.

Maybe Prince will speak to the Jackson family, but it won't be in the media.. maybe personal.

Prince doesn't use the media for things like these. Exactly the same with the James Brown funeral and all...

It would be nice to hear some more from Prince himself (he's my other favourite artist.. but I learned I am far more emotional attached to Michael) about Michael, and what they did together and spoke about.

Prince won't do anything unless it's for his own financial gain.

LOL, kind true acctually.

Prince offered Jackson one of his song but MJ turned him down, don't remember if it was before Bad or after.

And I need to say that there were more reasons as to why Prince turned down Bad, one is that he simply didn't like the song, according to Quincy he said that the song would be a hit without him, another is that he feared that Jackson would portray himself "cooler" and "better" that him in the video. But he did mention and interview that he didn't like the first line "Your butt is mine" as well.

NO!!! those two were opposite like night and day. But there are some music critics that think Prince was to Michael Jackson like the Rollin Stones were to the Beatles. Prince music and career was over shadowed by Michael during the 80 just like the Stones music was over shadowed by the Beatles during the 60"s.

foreal he has them 2 songs inb his setlist wowo

Prince is a classy guy - he will totally just speak to the family directly if he is so inclined. And yea, he will pay tribute through the music. If you listen to Prince's music it is TOTALLY different to MJ's. Both amazing.

yes, i don't know what are prince fans doing here on mj fan board.
The man has just passed away and MJ fans are still grieving. :(
can't they leave us alone?
who the fuck care about prince? i dont care about these celebs and these fakers.

I wonder if Oprah will do something on Michael. Even though I don't like some of the things she has said about him in the past, I think she should do something positive on MJ.
