David LaChapelle's 3 MJ works on show in Taiwan and London

Re: David LaChapelle's 3 MJ works on show in Taiwan

“I don’t think he was capable of hurting anyone,” he says. “I think there’s something really biblical about what happened. His lyrics are so naive and so beautiful. It’s one of the most epic stories of our time, to go from such heights to such depths. He’s a modern-day martyr.

Found these on David LaChapelle's website. Just thought I'd post them incase anyone wants to see the flat versions.

I love this picture. This picture expresses how much Michael has always been strong and victorious in life and always managed to win every battle.

Re: David LaChapelle's 3 MJ works on show in Taiwan

David LaChapelle pays tribute to Michael Jackson with a new image portrait that shows the late King of Pop as a modern-day martyr. The image is part of a trilogy inspired by Mexican saint cards. “I don’t think he was capable of hurting anyone. I think there’s something really biblical about what happened," explains David LaChapelle of Michael Jackson’s life and pedophilia accusations. “His lyrics are so naive and so beautiful. It’s one of the most epic stories of our time, to go from such heights to such depths. He’s a modern-day martyr.”

I understand from an article in 'The Observer ' (UK) dated 25th April 2010 that at least one of these MJ works (American Jesus: Hold me, carry me boldly, Hawaii 2009) will be on display at the Robilant and Voena gellery, 1st Floor, 38 Dover St London from 27th April ( 6.00 pm - 8.30 press / private view ) until 25 May 2010 ( Mon -Fri 10-6.00 pm)

I love them all, especially the last one, it helps me cope when I look at it, hence why I saved it to my computer. :D

Re: David LaChapelle's 3 MJ works on show in Taiwan

Are those paintings or photos?

Dear Mods I wonder if you could add 'and In London' to the Heading?

Here is the Guardian/ Observer article about the London Exhibition. ( It is not stated how many of the MJ works will be exhibited...there is at least one)

Here is another article from The Times:
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/visual_arts/article7105598.ece

All 3 MJ artworks are at the London R+V Gallery at present: all are medium size. The smallest prints available (framed, About 2' x 18'' or so, from memory) cost about $13,000.00 each.

The LaChapelle paintings are quite striking in full size. The audio is not very good in this clip but you can still hear most of his talk about the paintings at the Taiwan gallery.

They are photos. He used 'models' to pose for them. They look heavily 'photoshopped'. They have a lot of impact though.

Aboslutley , No fail here! Not Blashemy either. Jeus was not the only one hung on a cross. Romans created this punishement during this time. Anyone chargre with a crime, was cricifield. What an intersting pic.. I love it! Love it! The MEDIA at hiss feet crucified him witht heir pen and tongue SHAMEFULLY. They made up stuff and went on a crusade to destroy his spirit and they did along with the guilty parties who were backed by the Santa Barbara Police department and slew of nasty, vile creatures.

What about this image below....does anyone know if this is by the same artist perhaps? I havent seen it featured in this thread....thanks..

I think this pic pretty much says it all. It shows what michael went through here on earth.

I think they all are just breathtaking. Like most I find the one where Jesus is carrying Michael most comforting. Just not sure what the one with the woman following him is depicting...Billie Jean? ;)

I think the woman is the Blessed Virgin Mary. The dove in Michael's hand is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The heart is quite obviously the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

"The celebrity photographer and artist David LaChapelle had always wanted to take a portrait of Michael Jackson, and nearly did: several shoots were lined up and cancelled as Jackson grew increasingly wary. “Photographers weren’t nice to him,” says LaChapelle. “He got scared.” After Jackson’s death LaChapelle decided to pay tribute, photographing a young lookalike in Hawaii, just outside his own home: a 25-acre ranch on the coast, three hours from the nearest shop. He moved there three years ago, turning his back on lucrative contracts with Vanity Fair, Italian Vogue and Rolling Stone. The “devil” in red is a friend who performs in the Cirque du Soleil. The image forms part of a trilogy inspired by Mexican saint cards. LaChapelle is convinced that Jackson was innocent of paedophilia.

“I don’t think he was capable of hurting anyone,” he says. “I think there’s something really biblical about what happened. His lyrics are so naive and so beautiful. It’s one of the most epic stories of our time, to go from such heights to such depths. He’s a modern-day martyr.

Thanks for this quote. It's nice that LaChapelle is understanding about Michael canceling; perhaps he would have reconsidered. I wonder if LaChapelle would have gone with the same theme if he were able to take a portrait of Michael.

ah cool...a Christian Lacroix wedding dress. very pretty. hmm interesting..lol

yea David Lachapelle is a genius..he really sees the world differently than an average joe..so im not too shocked at his way of depicting michael. i think this is why celebrities flock to Lachapelle..he shows them in a different or unique light.

Interesting...thanks.
