Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

hello Linda.. i am a christian and have been one for about 25 years....before this I was a catholic...what is a unitarian??....do you except jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

You were a Catholic before? So therefore you were always a Christian. Catholics believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

I am stepping in here. As a Catholic I need to defend the Church, and will not refrain from doing so. We do NOT worship Mary and the Saints. We do NOT pray to statues. Somewhat like pictures, statues respresent certain people. Example, have you ever looked at a picture of Michael and said something. Are you talking to the picture, no you're talking to Michael and wishing he could hear you(talking about when he was alive). Now he may very well can hear you. So you look at a picture of Michael now, and say something to him hoping he can hear you. You're talking to Michael, not the picture. Same with us Catholics. We are talking to the people the statues represent, not the statues. The Church is very careful of proclaiming someone a saint. There has to be scienitific proof that there was a miracle through their intercession, which always involves a doctor's report. We do NOT worship Mary. We honor her. She was the way Jesus chose to come to us, so we see her as helping us come closer to Christ. She was His mother, so we honor her, we ask her to help us be pleasing to her Son. Nothing wrong with that. We believe Christ crowned her as Queen of Heaven and earth. We believe because she bore Christ and was His mother, that she took part in our redemption. A mother hates to see her son or daughter(this case Son of course) suffer, and when they suffer, so does the mother in a way nobody else does. I don't speak from experience as I am unable to have children, but my stepmother and others have told me that when someone hurts a mother's child, they hurt the mother as well. That's why we see Mary as taking a special role in our redemption. We do NOT, NOT see her as our Savior. Only Christ is our Savior and we can be saved by no other . We Catholics believe that, and I am offended by that statement that we worship Mary, etc. that you have said.
We believe in the Bible as the inspired Word of God. JWs and Mormons don't, or else they would believe in Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Sorry Earthy, but I will not let my Faith be attacked. I had to defend what I and others do as Catholics.

Michelle, it's ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Like I said, I am respecting everyone here. I want all of us to be able to express our feelings.

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

Hey Thunder, your mood says confused. Is their anything we can help with?

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

For me there is only one Bible and that is the Only Word of our Lord and Savior

i do not believe that it is ok to use other Bibles and still believe in Jesus if you do not believe the Bible is Gods Word how can you be a true believer and have contact with The one and only God

i am Pentecostal i used to be Catholic and i too have problems with praying to saints and the such,

what denomination are you?

Just like we ask each other, we ask the Saints to pray for us. We're not praying to them, we're talking to them. Nothing wrong with that.

Nothing wrong with praying to the Saints. Aren't their Saints prayers?

I posted a response about that issue earlier, but you explain it more :clapping:.

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

Jesus is the only Mediator between us and God the Father,,,,we do not need anyone else to help us interceed,,,Jesus is the only Intercessor! That is so awesome! why would we want anything or anyone else? Jesus is the best!

Me too, xthunder2. I was baptized in the Episcopal faith as a baby, and in 1999, I was saved and baptized in the Southern Baptist church, so I was baptized twice too. What an experience. I went forward, proclaimed my faith and got baptized.

Now I am going back to my Episcopalian roots, as I have more history with that and it holds special memories for me.

Hey Earth....thanks for asking..:)..I am just still confused on what happened to Michael that is all i mean ...We have all been so patient in waiting for a arrest....i do know that it will happen in Gods time not mine...so I will continue to be patient.....and probably confused until we get some news about arrests....:)

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

My apologies!

I don't meant to offend anyone. My Dad was raised a Catholic and most of his family are Catholic to this day. Worship was too strong a word to use. I am sorry.

No you are not disrespectful. If you put worship and editited your post, that was because you respected us Catholics. My other post saying my Faith was attacked was nothing to do with you either.

Mary, please respect those who want to pray to the saints. I for one, don't think there is nothing wrong with it. When the Episcopal church blesses the animals, they do a prayer from St. Francis, I think. Been a long time since I have been a part of that, and I am going back soon to catch up on all that, but please, let's respect one another here. Thanks!

Earthy

It is a beautiful thing...i can only make it through each day with the help of Jesus holding my hand and walking by my side.....I am so blessed.

You're welcome!! I do take the time to read peoples moods!! :)

I hope we will all know soon too.

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

I want to ask you peeps - I'm curious ... do you believe the theory of evolution is incompatible with Christianity? They don't have to be in conflict. That is the position of the Catholic church anyway. The church is not ignorant to science. I'm not 100% sure of the stance but I think that Pope John Paul II accepted the possibility of evolution as guided by God for the creation of the human body..but not a materialistic explanation for the human soul.

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

i was baptized twice too once as a baby in the Catholic church and then 6 years ago when i got saved into the Pentecostal faith! This is where i belong,,,i have learned and grown so much in Christ!

God is Good all the time!

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

I just have a problem with the aithests coming in here and saying things, when they have their own thread to post their non beliefs.

All I ask for is a little respect for a thread that I started for other Christians and myself. I have put some on ignore, as their words are not important to me, as they will never make me change my beliefs, nor I can I change their minds.

I am not seeking a debate between the believers and the non belivers that's why I stay in the Jesus thread.

I respect my fellow believers.

You're right, earthy. I mean I was accused of hijacking a thread because I expressed religious beliefs, because well I was responding to a post. So if the athiests want respect, they need to give it as well. I'm sick of this crap!

I was very surprised when I learned about the Church's stance on evolution. Completely shocked. However though I reject evolution. That's not what the Bible told of.

well Rockin in what I have been taught evolution is as opposite as it can get as to Christianity...evolution=evolving from animal...Christianity=evolving from God...I think if the Pope did this...he was confused..:D

Well, girlfriend, we can all go and post salvation scripture. LOL! But I will not stoop to their level.

So I can assume from your post that you never ask anybody to pray for you at all. Never???

sorry Earthsong, us Pentecostals tend to be vocal in our beliefs,,,,,,,,

Hello thunder,

Maybe you or someone else can answer me this. First a statement then a question. If someone is baptized some Christian denomination like Luther, Baptist, etc. and wants to convert to Catholicism, they don't need to be baptized again because the Church recognized the baptisms as long as they are done "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit", which most Christian denominations do?
My question is is it not the same with the Christian denominations? If someone was baptized Catholic and wants to convert to another Christian denomination, do the denomination not recognize the Catholic baptism?

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

yes i have asked people to pray for me but i think that is different,,,,Jesus said for us to pray for each others need but the saints and the /blessed Virgin Mary are not alive anymore if they were i would of asked tem for prayer as well! i need lots of prayer!

Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?

Yes I was always taught that God created us humans in his own image and likeness.

I think the Pope said that.. he couldn't deny the current research findings. This one quote I found (which could have been taken out of context, or maybe i took it wrong) he said something like evolution was guided by God but the human soul was nothing to do with evolution.

The current Pope sounds against evolution though. The Church's stance is not very clear to be honest.

I found this on Wikipedia (not the most reliable place)

n Pope Benedict's own contribution he states that "I find it important to underline that the theory of evolution implies questions that must be assigned to philosophy and which themselves lead beyond the realms of science."

In commenting on statements by his predecessor, he writes that "it is also true that the theory of evolution is not a complete, scientifically proven theory." Though commenting that experiments in a controlled environment were limited as "we cannot haul 10,000 generations into the laboratory," he does not endorse creationism or intelligent design. In discussing evolution, he writes that "The process itself is rational despite the mistakes and confusion as it goes through a narrow corridor choosing a few positive mutations and using low probability....This....inevitably leads to a question that goes beyond science....where did this rationality come from?" to which he answers that it comes from the "creative reason" of God
well Rockin in what I have been taught evolution is as opposite as it can get as to Christianity...evolution=evolving from animal...Christianity=evolving from God...I think if the Pope did this...he was confused..:D
