When I first heard about this book I wasn't interested. But now reading the summary I want to get and support it.
I usually don't get books like these. I have gotten Joe Vogel, Michael Bush and Aphrodite Jones and Michael's books. I just want to know Michael the person. I don't need to know really private things and guess why he did things. Some people guess or were never around him. It's nice to see something like this get published and if it really is positive then I hope it does really well. I can tell that people still want to bring Michael down and be negative yet there are people willing to stand up for him when people would say they don't need to.
I feel exactly the same... except I haven't decided to buy the book. I am so tired of the emotional roller-coaster I experience reading what people write about Michael. For me it detracts from experiencing his art and humanity and appreciating his love for his children.
I wish the boys well with their book, and I love the funny stories and appreciate Ivy and others for sharing them. I don't want to know about Michael's love life, because that is one area that I think should be left private for him, and any girlfriends should definitely be allowed their privacy too.
When I first (belatedly) became an MJ fan I bought anything and everything I could get my hands on... which meant a lot of wasted dollars for tabloid trash like Tarraborelli's book. It still hurts me to think that people Michael trusted with his and his children's safety should use their relationship with him commercially, but perhaps they feel they are doing benefit to his legacy.
About the other members of Michael's family I am not surprised at all. One thing I deduced not long after Michael died was that he wanted to keep the rest of his family at arm's length. The more I hear of/from Randy Jackson the more I am appalled by the man and his behaviour to both the court, media and with respect to Michael's children. Some family! (I think I'm echoing Paris'words on Twitter here when Randy, Janet and Jermaine gate crashed their way in to the entrance of the Calabasses house after their conspiracy to get Katherine away from the children.
One thing that does concern me with some aspects of these stories is that again they are opinions/recollections even though from first-hand observers. I don't think there can ever be a definitive version of Michael's life, because he was different things to different people.
At least thanks to Ivy's excellent review I can rest easy that this book is not another nasty hatchet job with little basis in fact (unlike some we could mention). So good luck to Bill and Javon - I hope their book redresses some of the gross imbalances in material on Michael currently on the market.
