I found this, sorry if it has been posted before.

Zoe Ball has counted down the top ten greatest dance music records - as voted for by the Radio 2 audience.

And the winner is... Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.

Taken from Thriller, the biggest-selling album in the world, Billie Jean went to the top of the UK charts in 1983. It was co-written by Michael Jackson and Quincey Jones.

While Quincy Jones felt the intro was too long, Michael knew that it was the intro that made him want to dance.

So, the intro stayed and the song won two Grammy awards in 1984.

Our presenter, Zoe Ball, says: "I'm delighted that Billie Jean has been voted the greatest dance record ever made. This is Jackson at his best.

"This track is way up there for me - *****'s rendition of it at the Motown 25th anniversary show has got to be one of THE great live performances of all time.

"I can remember hearing this at the Boutique [club night in Brighton] and the place would go crazy. The bassline is awesome, the production is killer. It's just perfect."

The top ten in full, as voted for by Radio 2 listeners:

1. Billie Jean – Michael Jackson (1983)
2. I Feel Love – Donna Summer (1977)
3. Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine – James Brown (1970)
4. Strings Of Life - Rhythim Is Rhythim (1987)
5. Where Love Lives – Alison Limerick (1994)
6. Keep On Movin' – Soul II Soul (1989)
7. Can You Feel It – Fingers Inc. (1988)
8. Big Fun – Inner City (1988)
9. Theme From S-Express – S-Express (1988)
10. Key To My Happiness – The Charades (1966)

That's cool but i wish these people would do their research because Billie Jean was written by Michael alone. Quincy had nothing to do with it

Well what can I say, we don't need polls to tell us Michael is the best.

Well done to Michael and all who voted for him.

:clapping:

Isn't this the song that

Quincy said: I could shave on that intro...

then Michael said: That's the Jelly...makes me wanna DANCE?

No, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough is the greatest dance record of all time.

:D

Great to see that Michael is getting some well deserved recognition! :)

Billie Jean always gets people up and dancing wherever Im at :D

I totally agree! "Billie Jean" is all about choreographed moves really, DSTYGE is much more of a "dance" record imo. It should have been on the list.

That and "Shake Yo Body".

"Billie Jean" is actually one of the most bizarre dance songs I ever heard. The beat is funky but the subject matter... LOL

Sometimes when I listen to a dance record, I listen to what they're saying too. :)

I think "Dancing in the Street" is THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME IMHO.

can't argue against Billie Jean at all Arguably the Greatest Song ever IMO. great feat and it shows what timeless music is all about.

True that - absolutely every time I've been in a dance setting people will get up for that song. Even when I hear it in a store or out in the open, someone is always singing along to it, bopping their head, or dancing. DSTYGE should definitely be up there, no doubt, but Billie Jean will always be a dancefloor staple and is just a real masterpiece in it of itself. It most certainly deserves the title BBC's given it :).
