What do you think are the best lyrics MJ has written? Stranger In Moscow and Heartbreak Hotel are up there for me as being one of his best

Difficult question. Is It Scary is one of my fave lyrics ever.

Stranger in Moscow is definitely up there. I think Money too. I love these lines so much:

Are you infected with the same disease of lust, gluttoney and greed?
Then watch the ones
With the biggest smiles
The idle jabbers
Cuz they're the backstabbers

So true. So relevant.

I also like TDCAU. I would say Billie Jean too. The mystery of the lyrics adds to the greatness of the song. Will You Be There too. Morphine.

Man HIStory has some amazing song-writing; TDCAU, Stranger In Moscow, TTA, Earth Song, Money, Childhood, HIStory

It's slander
You say it's not a sword
But with your pen you torture men
You'd crucify the Lord
And you don't have to read it, read it
And you don't have to eat it, eat it
To buy it is to feed it, feed it
So why do we keep foolin' ourselves

I also feel that 'In the back' was going somewhere for some interesting lyrics and we'll never know what those were. **** you murray

Thankyou for this thread analogue :) I will be visiting often  ...heaven can wait

You’re beautiful
Each moment spent with you is simply wonderful
This love I have for you girl it’s incredible
And I don’t know what I’d do, if I can’t be with you
The world could not go on so every night I pray

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You"

I Just Want To Lay Next To You
For Awhile
You Look So Beautiful Tonight
Your Eyes Are So Lovely
Your Mouth Is So Sweet
A Lot Of People
Misunderstand Me
That's Because They Don't
Know Me At All
I Just Want To Touch You
And Hold You
I Need You
God I Need You
I Love You So Much

Jam:

She Pray To God, To Buddha
Then She Sings A
Talmud Song
Confusions Contradict
The Self
Do We Know Right
From Wrong
I Just Want You To
Recognize Me
In The Temple
You Can't Hurt Me
I Found Peace
Within Myself

Earth Song. All of it.

I'm gonna be
Exactly what you wanna see
It's you who's haunting me
You're wanting me
To be the stranger
In your life

Am I amusing you?
Or just confusing you?
Am I the beast
You visualised?
And if you wanna to see
Eccentric oddities
I'll be grotesque
Before your eyes

Let them all materialise

Is that scary for you baby?
Am I scary for you?

The entire song is perfect, just thought I'd give a highlight.

I'm going to be exactly what you want to see; so did you come to me to see your fantasies performed before your very eyes? A haunting ghostly treat of ghoulish trickery and spirits dancing in the night? But if you came to see the truth, the purity, it's here inside a lonely heart. So let the performance start! Is this scary for you baby? Am I scary for you? You know the stranger is you, I'm tired of being abused, you know you're scaring me too, you see, the evil... is you.

"We've Had Enough"

Love was taken from a young life
And no one told her why
Her direction has a dimelight
From one more violent crime

She innocently questioned why
Why her father had to die
She asked the men in blue
How is it that you get to choose
Who will live and who will die
Did God say that you could decide?
You saw he didn't run
And that my daddy had no gun

In the middle of a village
Way in a distant land
Lies a poor boy with his broken toy
Too young to understand

He's awaken, ground is shakin
His father grabs his hand
Screaming, crying, his wife's dying
Now he's left to explain

He innocently questioned why
Why his mother had to die
What did these soldiers come here for?
If they're for peace, why is there war?

Did God say that they could decide
Who will live and who will die?
All my mama ever did
Was try to take care of her kids

We're innocently standing by
Watching people lose their lives
It seems as if we have no voice
It's time for us to make a choice

Only God could decide
Who will live and who will die
There's nothing that can't be done
If we raise our voice as one

They've gotta hear it from me
They've gotta hear it from you
They've gotta hear it from us
We can't take it
We've already had enough

They've gotta hear it from me
They've gotta hear it from you
They've gotta hear it from us

We can't take it
We've already had enough

I read he got help with lyrics for the song and I´m not sure what he wrote but the lyrics for the whole song is so great.

Michael wrote many great lyrics and we haven´t hear them all yet.

Great thread !
I have so many, he was phenomenal songwriter.
One of mine is from Who Is It
"And It Doesn't Seem To Matter
And It Doesn't Seem Right
'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune
Still I Cry Alone At Night

'Stranger in Moscow' is probably it for me, I mean... wow. 'They Don't Care About Us' is also fantastic.

'Morphine' is another one that is really brutal and downright scary, though it's kinda hard to hear the lyrics at times.

''Just because you read it in a magazine, or see it on a tv screen don't make it factual, though everybody wants to read all about it.'' such slander in the press, causing hurt in Michael's life.. the world are prone to being brainwashed by what they read.. Michael expresses the pain he feels in a powerful way. Tabloid Junkie is definitely in my top 10.

She Drives Me Wild

Black Jeans And
A Turtleneck Sweater
I Know The Girl
Is Fakin' 'Cause
I've Seen Her Look Better

Mind Is The Magic

Come in to me
I know mystical garden
Orchards and violets
All mysteries are parted
Life is a mirageghost
Imagination
Pure inspiration called justification

Love this song.

Yes!

They Don't Care About Us
Will You Be There
Morphine
You Are My Life
Heal The World
Black or White
Give In To Me

.... and the list just goes on...

Pretty much everything from Dangerous, HIStory, and BOTDF have such beautifully constructed lyrics. His lyrics brought life to a story in the songs just as much as his short films did.

In my opinion, the lyrics of Heal The World is so beautiful. It has a very important message and this is what I really miss from today's music. :/

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for
You and for me.

He wrote plenty o' smart and deep things, but I still think Little Susie is the single most relevant tune of all. If I had to pick a line and only one it would be

SHE KNEW NO ONE CARED

There are a few others that stand out, but this one is most appropriate for now.

Tabloid Junkie easily for me but They Don't Care About Us is also genius, it's a shame people twisted those lyrics however into such a pathetic claim of anti-Semitism.

You're a parasite in black and white! Do anything for news!

Money for me, great production and well written.. that starting line gives me the goosebumps everytime.

"I'll never betray or deceive you my friend, but..
If you show me the cash, then I will take it (huh)
If you tell me to cry, then I will fake it (huh)
If you give me your hand, then I will shake it
"

I also like towards the end when he mentions John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie
"Rockefeller".... "Carnegie"

Crazy how a simple ad-lib from MJ gives me the goosebumps.

Is it Scary, Money. During HIStory sessions he was on fire. I wish we heard more of what he wrote after the trial - I remember Brad Buxer said it affected his creative life in the same positive way.

Be Not Always is also a very profound piece, even though he wrote it at a young age. Also Will You Be There and Shout.

I wish there was more clarity as to what lyrics were written by him, and what was written by producers. He seemed to write lyrics quickly at the last monent, never giving it much attention, so when I tried to ask Brad Sundberg about the origins of lyrics to some songs, he couldn't even remember. They were always focused on music arrangements. It's unfortunate because I think lyrics are important.

But it's known, for example, that most of Invincible album was written not by Michael.

The best lyric Michael ever wrote is easily "AWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and the rest from can't get outta the rain....... ;)

Or maybe not.

Who Is It or Give In To Me are among his best lyrics.

The original lyrics in Is It Scary are some of the most poignant I've ever heard Michael sing.

"Judge not what you seek of me
'Cause the heart reveals the proof
Like a mirror reveals the truth
See, the evil one is you"

Absolutely stunning.

Such an amazing song.

"If you came to see,
the truth of purity,
it's inside a lonely heart,
so let the performance start"

Is It Scary is one of, if not the best song Michael ever work on. Lyrically, musically, vocally and atmosphericly it is one of the greatest pieces of music ever and I love every second of it!
