To me a Dangerous or HIStory doc would be more interesting than a Thriller one, what can we really learn about his Thriller years that we don't already know? He had evolved since Bad, got rid of Quincy and was making songs that carried a purpose in the Dangerous period.

HIStory he was coming off the back of the allegations and was angry. You would like to think the estate would not sidestep this issue (unless they couldn't for legal reasons) and openly talk about it on a hypothetical docu.

I want more of a 'warts and all' documentary on MJ. I want the genius of the man and his flaws to be presented in the same doc. I don't want a whitewash job but at the same time don't want more of the same shit documentaries that are seen on channel5 in the UK of him. I want an accurate portrayal of the entire man.

That at the end of the day will win people's respect of him. Seeing the whole picture.

Spike is (most likely) gonna do a Thriller doc and it will probably be the next one.

All the complaints about it happening here are weird.
These docs, while having a lot of great stuff for hardcore fans like us, aren't really meant for us. They are nicely packaged pieces for newer generation(s) of people to discover, or REdiscover specific points in time in his life.
They are way better than reading a wikipedia entry.

I don't know what people want with these things. They aren't concert films. They aren't behind the scenes of any specific video or tour. It's a broad, all encompassing look at ___ era.

I think Spike did great for his 2 efforts and I would love for him to close it out with a Thriller film.

Any future docs would be awesome, even better if its another director for a new spin on it.

I just want to add that with help of such "MJ is great" fests now, there will be a chance one day for Off the Wall 50, for example. I mean, documentaries do not end on what Spike did and will do... What we have so far is a great job, IMO, but it all is not a final word, it is just something to begin with.

I can understand why some fans don't want a Thriller documentary. Because over the years everything as been Thriller this and Thriller that. So it's natural that some fans would want other albums to get some attention for a change

Re: Spike Lee announces Off The Wall Documentary - Estate Announcement Page 66

I would be much more interested in a documentary about HIStory than Thriller. Thriller would definitely appeal to the public more, which is why it's my thinking that this will be the one that gets made (if only 3 are being considered). Let's face it, everything else so far since 2009 has been aimed at mainstream commercial success (with the exception of Bad25 perhaps).

It would be great to break this pattern with, what I consider, Michael's most artistically and personally creative album by miles. I read some book that claimed that Dangerous was a concept album, which hurt my brain struggling to even see a glimpse of this being correct. With HIStory, I genuinely see a story being played out in those 15 tracks. It would be great to see these songs discussed even greater. The most we have is MJ discussing Childhood, about how it's the song he tells people to listen to, and the behind the scenes footage of the mixing of Tabloid Junkie.

How many times have we heard that when the first mix of Thriller was played out loud it sounded TERRIBLE?... There's only so many times you can view stock interviews of Quincy Jones.

OMG, I couldn't agree with you more!

I was talking with a few people on twitter, a couple of weeks ago and we were thinking of a documentary titled "BAD to 2BAD."
How amazing would that be? It has a broader scope, obviously....giving us Dangerous, HIStory and maybe even BOTDF.
It'd probably have to be more like a three-hour feature film, than a documentary, though. LOLOLLLLL

I really what to see a Thriller one and like it was mention do both that a good ideas too. Another Documentary would be good.

Bubs Don't forget that there are still youngsters that needs to be told how great Michael was and then show them how and why so this doc serves old fans as well as gain new ones (hopefully).

I agree that why it is important to have these doc .

HIStory!

That would be cool. Not again another Thriller-thing. The focus should be on Michaels later works like HIStory. The album has the more interesting songs. In Europe MJ had his biggest success during this era. Even in the US Michael was huge again in the second half of 1995.

Invincible would be interesting, too. But unfortunately they would not focus on $onys intrigues.

I would prefer Dangerous every time , though I think in this case Invincible would make more sense

You can't have a documentary about "the genius of the man and his flaws to be presented in the same doc" without capturing his career holistically.

Why not do his WHOLE career? Why only start with BAD?

Like it was mention in this thread Thriller,Dangerous, HIStory,Invincible imo they all should be done.

It's obvious that everyone wants a Dangerous 25 documentary... The Estate can't keep ignoring us. I wonder if they check this forum...

As I mentioned they should do 2 trilogies... Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad... Dangerous, History, Invincible....

Boom done, end of story.. Spike get on Thriller doc.. and Spike or someone else get started on the others..

ready,set.. GO!!

HIStory!! A Dangerous documentary would be more fitting since the 25th anniversary of Dangerous is coming up in November. I don't think that's going to be done though.

Even if they do I doubt they really care what we think. :/
I doubt that. They probably monitor lots of fan sites. I'm sure that's why they changed their approach with Xscape album and released the demos. I think Bad25 was a great example of giving fans what they were asking for. And they even asked for our input when it didn't sell stellar numbers.

When did that happen?
Did they come on here and do a Q&A or something?

Shortly after Bad 25 came out, Sony and the Estate were curious to know why it didn't do so well. They were also keen to get general feedback from the fans.

Two threads were created on this forum as a result. A thread that was locked and the Estate would definitely read, and then another unlocked thread where people could respond with their feedback. Mods would copy the actual feedback into the locked thread (that way other discussion/replies in the unlocked thread irrelevant to the Estate weren't carried over).

The Estate have shown they listen to fans.

Now I'm mad that I didn't join sooner.
At least I'm here now though. :D

The feed back for documentaries would 8/10 times will always be "more footage" lol! no matter how bad or great the documentary is..

Errrrmmmm, I'm torn between Thriller and HIStory. Both are interesting time periods in Michael's work and vision for the albums.

i voted for Invincible because some people say that that era is not so popular in Michael's career. it would be great to see Invincible documentary! many not-moonwalkers don't even know that he had that album so that could tell a lot of things to people.

If there's ever a HIStory documentary, then Blood On The Dance Floor has to be included. Blood On The Dance Floor is too good to be ignored

I don't agree. It's a remix album. Only Ghosts is worth it in my opinion.
