4 Aug08 - Michael Jackson News & Mentionings

either mj aint intrested in using what neyo has sent him or its gonna be along time b4 we see an album

i like what that reporter said about those women dancing in the rain to MJ's Beat It. yep..MJ will turn any droll situation into truly entertaining..and that includes a rainy day parade. llol

Ne-Yo's songs are good, but they aren't all that and Michael would be better off using his own material. He's a far, FAR superior songwriter. Ne-Yo doesn't have to be in the studio for Michael to record the song. It sound's more like Ne-Yo want's to be there so he can tell Michael how he want's it sung, but the truth is, Michael should make that decisian. He doesn't need Ne-Yo there for anything.

Joe Jackson, A Nice Guy

(03-08-08) Stanley Wozniak is a Veteran restaurateur who is long used to hosting VIPs from Rat Packers to Harrison Ford to Jon Bon Jovi. Well, last week, he hit it off with an unlikely patron at The Joynt nightclub...Joe Jackson. He says that he expected the pop music patriarch to be "demanding" during his 80th birthday party at the new River North hot spot, 'Au Contraire.'

I was thrown for a loop. He's the complete opposite of what I've read about him. I expected him to be a pompous ass. He couldn't have been nicer to my staff and everybody."

Mr. Jackson lingered after the bash was over at 11pm. Instead he moved from a private room to chat with regulars at the main bar until 1am.

Surrounded by relatives, recording execs and hip-hop artists, the birthday boy held court at the club on July 24 under the glare of TV cameras. A crew taped the private bash for a new reality show, "Meet Joe Jackson," which will follow Mr. Jackson's efforts to reunite (and re-manage) his sons' band. Reportedly, the series will also chart Mr. Jackson's efforts to launch new talent with his partner Rick Neville of Chicago-based Chi-Coast Entertainment.

According to Wozniak, the ex-steelworker is far from the overbearing taskmaster portrayed by the media. He says that Mr. Jackson won him over by confiding that he's never "taken a dime" of his children's earnings, or pilfered their accounts. He also displayed his cell phone, which has all of his children on speed dial. Michael, Janet, La Toya and so forth each have an assigned ring tone. The club owner said,:D

He talks to all of his kids on a regular basis, and they have their holidays together at the Encino compound."

All of Joseph's children have their OWN ring tone. That is so cute!

It would be fun to know which ring tone each of them have. LOL!

He's conquered the charts with smoochy R&B ballads like 'Sexy Love' and 'Because Of You', written hits for Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé, and recently scored a surprise No.1 with the disco-flavoured 'Closer'. Now Ne-Yo's aiming to "step outside of the R&B box" with an album influenced by everything from classic rock to British dance music. We gave the ambitious star a call to find out more.

Why did you call the album "Year of the Gentleman"?
"Because what it is to be a gentleman is a little bit lacking at the moment. From the way that we treat and view women to our outward appearance, I think guys have been slacking a little. This album is basically me trying to lead by example. I think of myself as a gentleman in training. I'm actually willing to learn to be a gentleman, which sets me a little closer to the mark than a few other cats I could think of."

You've been working with a legendary gentleman recently - Michael Jackson. Have you asked him for feedback on your new songs?

"No, I haven't, but that's a really good idea actually. I might just have to do that."

I hope I don't come across as dense. But I don't understand what this marketing and distribution deal really means for Michael. Can someone enlighten me?

poor Ne-Yo most questions in his interviews are to do with MJ, people want to know about Mike

I know and it always cracks me up.

I mean, this is "supposed" to be an interview about Ne-Yo's new album, but one of the questions is: DO YOU HAVE MICHAEL'S MOBILE NUMBER? LOL!

the publishing thing? ive only skimmed through it but its basically about having more oppotunities for the music to be used all around the world. u work with companies that help distrubute it. the more the music is used by ppl the more money you make. so the songs just dont turn up in a tv add in america they turn up in a tv ad in china because the company you have just done a deal with have the abilitiy to sell the music to chinese business for eg. something like that anyway i think lol

In my opinion, you summed it up very nicely elusive.

Using China was a good example. That's a HUGE territory with unlimited possibilities for television, commercials and movies.

Well, at least this question was one in relation to Ne-Yo's new album. I like how they called Michael a legendery gentlemen too.

^^ The Year of the Gentlemen... I had forgot all about that album until they asked that question :hysterical:

Yes, Michael will be rolling in the dough. LOL!

Those WORLDWIDE deals are automatically money makers, because they cover so much territory.

Michael Jackson is "The King Of Cha-Ching" LOL!
Say dat, Honey!! "The King Of Cha-Ching" aka "Mr. Cha-Ching"

y is some of y'all trippin over ne-yo? IF mj is such teh songwriter etc...like y'alls is claiming, he won't settle for no wack ass songs so chillax a bit and simmer down now! lol

it ain't that big a deal

No one's trippin', just giving opinions. I'm not worried at all about what Michael chooses to do. I totally trust his artistic direction.

The Hot 100 just turned the big 5-0.

The seminal singles chart turned a half-century-old today, having made its Billboard magazine debut on Aug. 4, 1958. Ricky Nelson's "Poor Little Fool" topped the inaugural Hot 100 chart, which covered the week ended Aug. 9, and nearly a 1,000 songs have graced its perch since.
In celebration of its silver anniversary, here's our own hit list of Hot 100 highlights:

  • Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's 1995 single "One Sweet Day" holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 with 16. 1987's Bad landed five No. 1 singles to give Michael Jackson the most chart-toppers ever from a single album. In '95, Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" became the first song ever to debut at No. 1. Unfortunately, it's also his last song to reach No. 1. In '64,the Beatles became the first band to replace itself at No. 1 when "She Loves You" topped "I Want to Hold Your Hand," their very first U.S. chart-topper. "Can't Buy Me Love" then hit No. 1 to make the Beatles the only group to string together three consecutive chart-toppers. The Fab Four also became the only group to occupy the top five spots at once. Starting at No. 1, the five songs were "Can't Buy Me Love," "Twist and Shout," "She Loves You," "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "Please Please Me." A week later, the Beatles set another record with 14 songs on the Hot 100. Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud" claims the dubious distinction of being the only No. 1 song to spend less than 10 total weeks on the Hot 100. The 2006 song debuted at No. 1, a feat accomplished by fellow American Idol stars Carrie Underwood, Fantasia and Clay Aiken and by no one else in nearly a decade. Billy Preston's "Nothing From Nothing" and Dionne Warwick's "Then Came You" share the record for the biggest falls from No. 1 with 14-spot drops. Remarkably, these drops happened in consecutive weeks in late '74. "Go Away Little Girl" is the first song to repeat at No. 1 by a different artist—Steve Lawrence did it in '63 and Donny Osmond in '71. At 33 years and 7 months, Cher holds the record for the longest span between No. 1s with 1965's "I Got You Babe" and 1999's "Believe." She had seven other No. 1s in-between. Otis Redding claims the first posthumous No. 1 with 1968's "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay." Redding had passed away in December 1967. Thirty years later, Notorious B.I.G. became the first artist to score consecutive posthumous No. 1s with "Hypnotize" and "Mo Money Mo Problems." Domenico Modugno's "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)" was the first non-English-language No. 1 back in '58. Los del Rio's "Macarena" was the most recent in '96. Maroon 5's "Make Me Wonder" went from No. 64 to No. 1 in '07 to set the record for the biggest jump ever to the top of the chart. In the summer of 2000, Aaliyah's "Try Again" became the first song to top the Hot 100 purely on radio play.
  • At nearly nine minutes long, Guns N' Roses' "November Rain" is the longest song ever to crack the Top 40.
In the 15 years before the birth of the Hot 100, songs were tracked on three different charts divided by store sales, radio spins and jukebox play.
By early 1958, the jukebox chart had been discontinued, and the new countdown, titled the Top 100, was the first to combine sales and spins. By August of that year, the Top 100 was rechristened the Hot 100, and it has remained the industry standard ever since.

For you history buffs, the Hot 100 debuted at a time when Eisenhower was president, there were only 48 U.S. states and gas set you back 25 cents a gallon.

I DO think Michael is a genius songwriter..and he is also clever enough to test the waters and sample the work of others..I echo the sentiments of those who said Michael needs to be left to his own devices when it comes to his music..he has never failed us-- right? ;)

As for the distribution..I also think as elusive said...given the rise in entertainment in the asian market and outside of the US and Europe..the more companies the likes of MJ works with the more profitable it is. It helps to sell your music to a wider audience as well as repeat the benefits off it --- i think music distribution firms are wanting to keep a tab of major music being used in up and coming markets because previously they were going unnoticed with illegal pirating etc.
