The titles of his albums tell a story: First, Akon was in Trouble, then he was Konvicted. Now, with his current album, the hip-hop star is enjoying Freedom.

The Senegal-born singer sits down with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview to talk about his recent collaboration with Michael Jackson, working with New Kids on the Block and his thoughts about President-elect Barack Obama.

You did some work with Michael Jackson earlier in the year with 25th Anniversary of Thriller. How did you riff off each other musically?
Akon: The collaboration was incredible. From the first moment we actually met each other face-to-face it seemed like we had know each other for years. I was always a big fan, I knew everything about him. It was just astonishing to me that he knew a lot about me, and he was a fan of me as well. We clicked instantly.

What surprised you the most about him?
Akon: How humble and how smart he was. Sometimes you get a certain perception from how the media portrays him, but [working with him] was completely opposite. An artist of that caliber and as big as he is, you would think he would have certain qualities that you probably wouldn't like, such as being very arrogant or stuck up. With him, it was like he had never put out a record before – he still had that hunger.

Damn, Ec, you beat me to it!! LOL! Thanks for posting that. I saw it on the website and I opened another window and was gonna post it on here until.... lol. Well, hey, you have better timing than I do. LOL. It is all good.

It was just astonishing to me that he knew a lot about me, and he was a fan of me as well. We clicked instantly.

Mike a fan of Akon? Dang, I knew those songs that Akon be singing Mike would like. Hahahaha.

With him, it was like he had never put out a record before – he still had that hunger

The driven side of Mike. That is what is missing in music today, people that are serious about music and people being driven. Now, Akon being one of those driven artists is another story. I am hating on him, just saying.

It’s easy to get complacent when you achieve the level of success Akon has. With worldwide sales of over 7 million albums, certified gold and platinum status in over 23 countries, hundreds of guest appearances (including a collaboration with Michael Jackson), and the record for the first artist to have the #1 and 2 songs simultaneously on the Billboard charts twice, you’d be forgiven for allowing Akon to lean back. But, to quote the singer himself, "The more successful I get, the harder I work to keep it."

Best Video Game Music

In the past music on television shows and video games was frequently little more than background; something to fill the spaces between the action sequences. But in the past few years with the arrival of music and dance specific games where players can become their favorite rock stars the music has become an essential part of the game. Billboard magazine has compiled a list of the top 25 songs for video games.

When Shane O'Brien stepped in for Pyatt and proceeded to rock Reitz, it set the tone. The Canucks twice fought back from deficits for a
3-2 win backstopped by backup Curtis Sanford.
In the crowded post-game corridor outside the locker-room, you could hear Michael Jackson's hit "Billy Jean" being blasted on the CD machine and the Canucks hooting and hollering. Some even danced.

I have no vinyl in my history to wax nostalgic over. My earliest memory is pushing the buttons on the family eight-track to get "Jumping Jack Flash" again. Jump the groove to the next music memory and I'm slotting Michael Jackson's "Thriller" into my gettoblaster.

Kicking off with Cher's power ballad Turn Back Time, the show takes audiences on a musical journey down through the 1980s, 70s, 60s and 50s, helping audiences relive the songs they grew up with.
A Michael Jackson medley is the first to get audience's toes really tapping, with songs like Billie Jean and Thriller setting people bopping in their seats.

There was so much posturing at times, I expected him to do the Michael Jackson crotch grab and tunnel scream. Thankfully, the grinding was subdued when Legend brought a female fan onstage for "Slow Dance,"

Give thanx to mariemarie, Dorothy, eternitys, Rasta Pasta. I love the things that Akon said. Makes me sick when less-talented, less-famous artists than MJ act all cocky. They should learn from him.

The pic of him reading is so lovely. I love seeing him having a good time. The way he's sitting like that, I think he still sits like that when reading something for enjoyment.

1979 - Michael Jackson's single "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" was certified Gold by the RIAA.
:)...

Anyway just wanted to let yall know that I will be doing an update and sorry for being so late in posting it.
