Im trying to find info on who painted the Blood On The Dance Floor cover art and if there is any symbolism meaning to the cover.

It's said that MJ is posing as the number 7 which is his favourite number.

Cover drawing: Will Wilson (http://www.willwilsonstudio.com)
Art director: Nancy Donald
Art and design director: David Coleman y Frank Harkins
Reference picture taken for the cover by : Bill Nation

Bill Nation was told to photograph Michael on the set of the video. And then the drawing was made by Will Wilson on Oil on linen. The city behind Michael is thought to be New York, as it Wilson's home city at the time.

Here's another drawing that resembles (look at the clouds) to the cover of the album:

His signature appears on the cover. It's not clearly visible but it's there, on the left side, right above where it says SONY MUSIC.

Thanks for the info... I always liked this cover... and now I can see the 7 lol

I also didn't know that he was posing as a number 7. I think that is pretty cool. And I often wonder who did the painting as well. Especially since I got the poster album cover version on my one bedroom closet door.

Thank you for this info

Wouldn't it be awesome if the new album had an elegant painting on the cover like BOTD?

So much effort put into this album cover, I wonder why there was so little put into the BOTDF video! Was Sony already cramping up MJ's marketing support budget in 1997?

No point in finding ANYTHING in the cover art, I spoke to Will at length a few years back when this cropped up before, he was given loose guidelines but created something that came into his head. I asked him about symbolism but its really just a picture.

Thanks for the info, Birch.

Yeah I had an indepth "discussion" a while back with someone, so I spoke to Will, from his side there was nothing to the picture, but as I mentioned he was given rough guidelines, so if they meant anything? But for starters mentioned in post 1, saying MJ may be making a 7, Its clearly just the move Michael and the dancers do on They Don't Care About Us on history tour, even with the mouth open, Michael was too busy touring so I would chuck a stone saying Will just took a picture from the tour and added the BOTDF outfit

I don't think it really means anything. Just a pose, as Birchey said. Doesn't look that much as a 7 anyway.

well, if it looked TOO much like a 7, then it wouldn't be much of a dance move...too stiff ....:D
