There's no way of verifying who's the best selling female artist of all time. Most sources say Celine and others say Madonna. Both have sold 200 million records worldwide.

In the US, Barbara Streisand is the best selling female with over 70 million units sold.

like someone on another thread said, it's hard to know for sure, because it's always estimated. you can't tell who is buying music, in the corners of the world where soundscan may miss. and all these artists, female and male..other than Michael, got a ton of radio airplay, in just about every phase of their life, so, sales figures can be inflated. just because an artist gets a lot of radio airplay, doesn't mean that that artist is selling well. a lot of times, a lot of radio airplay, these days, only garners illegal downloading, cus of the radio effect..people wanna hear the song, again,(if it's good)immediately, cus they just heard it on the radio, so they do the convenient thing, and download it. sometimes, illegally. and since it's a tight race, among the females.. we can give an estimate, and it will change, the moment we get it.

Well, most reliable sources state Madonna as the best selling female. Even the Guinness Book of World Records gives it up to her. She's sold over 200 million albums and 70-80 million singles worldwide. The exact numbers, as stated before, are hard to say but it's pretty clear Madonna has the biggest lead. As far as I know, Mariah is next in line (which is why those two fan bases squabble alot) but maybe that's changed (who knows)?
